best quiet, small, folky and child friendly festival?

I have this idea that I'd like to go to a festival some day with the dcs - but it needs to be a kind of middle aged quiet affair with interesting acoustic music and fun for the dcs. Any ideas?

Solfest is ace - but maybe thnk about the quiet field, rather than the 'family' field which can be very noisy...

treedelivery · 29/07/2009 23:12

I'm excited

mollyroger · 29/07/2009 23:14

we had a lovely time last year

treedelivery · 29/07/2009 23:17

I have a thread about the fancy dress day. Does everyone do the Flintstones? Was thinking of Railway Children style?

'scuse hijack!

seeker · 29/07/2009 23:17

Broadstairs here

We've been going for 15 years! Any questions - happy to help!

mollyroger · 29/07/2009 23:20

Tree, the fancy dress is taken very seriously

mollyroger · 29/07/2009 23:21

seeker - is it Bongo-tastic?

treedelivery · 29/07/2009 23:23

Molly - do you think the Flinstones or Railway Children??????? [me and the dc's are red heads so Wilma and Pebbles would be easy!]

Really looking forward to the bands. The Orb! I haven't even heard them in years!

Ah the old days........

seeker · 29/07/2009 23:24

Molly - Bongos and tipis a speciality!

mollyroger · 29/07/2009 23:25

Oh wow, The Orb!.... >

Oh Flintstones, deffo.

VinegarTits · 29/07/2009 23:32

I took my ds(2) to the dent folk festival this year, its small but child friendly, plenty for the children to do, free parking and free to get on the festival site, you pay for tickets to the main tent where all the acts play, Ade Edmondson was there with his band this year, and its in Cumbria

treedelivery · 29/07/2009 23:33

Oh I am so glad you sadi that.

I can get dd2 an animal print nappy. Woo Hoo! Pray for sun.

seeker · 30/07/2009 08:42

Mollyroger - do we know each other?? I do hope so - I've always wnated to meet someone I know in RL on Mumsnet!

Curiousmama · 30/07/2009 12:12

I really fancy doing this my kids and dp would love it. Will definitely think of it for next year.

treedelivery · 30/07/2009 13:22

Mum just got in touch to say she is renting us a campervan for the festival [Solfest]

mollyroger · 30/07/2009 13:51

seeker, sadly I doubt we know each other in RL as i don't know anyone in your pat of the country. - but I do know about your bongo because you have been extremely helpful to me in the past (under another name) when i was buying one.

(curious to know if treedelirvey and i know each other though...we are both in the same county!)

treedelivery · 30/07/2009 13:57

Oooooo.

I'm a West Yorkshire bird.

BakewellTarts · 30/07/2009 14:02

Love Cropredy but worry about DD2 heading off to a cow pat .

Off to Cambridge this weekend which is a yearly favourite with us. DD1's first one was when she was 6 months old and DD2 will be 9 months this year.

Also Rhythms of the World in Hitchin is really child friendly but probably not that convenient for you.

mollyroger · 30/07/2009 14:39

oh sorry tree. I'm more northern than you...

treedelivery · 30/07/2009 14:52

Ah but I'm northern now.....

mollyroger · 30/07/2009 14:57

hmm. yeah. But I'm too eaten up with campervan envy to talk to you any more....

Fennel · 30/07/2009 14:58

We went to Aeon 2 years ago, it was small and friendly but VERY noisy, no separate family field, party noise til 5am. Not much specifically for the children. The music was mostly rave type music. not folky.

But it's moved site since then and looks as though it's got more children's activities.

bronze · 30/07/2009 15:02

I'm jut jealous of you all. Not sur eeough of my parenting skills to take 4 children camping (and travel I dont drive) on my own

We need a Mumsnet festival

We could get loads of acts who we havnt scared off like..... erm corky and.....
