Fat airics

Now that I have safely got my order in for two lime green fat airics (chilli sadly out of stock already), I can tell you that they are back in stock again. I was on the waiting list and just got a message from them, they have 400 in stock. So glad Aldi didn't have the cheap ones in stock on Monday now!

Can anyone link the website please? Can't find it! I also asked for an email when they were in but haven't had one

glastocat · 21/05/2009 12:30

Lancelottie we need more details than that!

www.alpkit.com/products/

Lancelottie · 21/05/2009 12:56

Jaffa/grey... all rolled up into an unfeasibly teeny package, and mine all mine, as DP snorted derisively at the name.

I nearly ordered him one anyway, but who am I to deprive desperate MNers of their Fat Airics for his sake?

Bwahahahahahahahaha

Lancelottie · 21/05/2009 12:57

(Might be on Relationships threads shortly, I suppose)

glastocat · 21/05/2009 13:01

Lancelottie PLEASE open it and tell us how comfy it is.

And you are quite right not to order one for someone like that! I bet he regrets it as soon as you go camping.

OMG - Mine are here too!!!!!!!!!!

So, I just laid one on the floor, opened the valves and it didn't seem to do much.... no instructions either.

Apparently you have to give it a bit of a top up so I'm feeling a bit dizzy now... however I blew it up so it was really firm and lay on it - unfortunately I have nothing to compare it with but I actually thought it was feeling a bit too firm and let a bit of the air out and WAIT... FOR... IT...
It's briliiant!!!!!!!

Can anyone more experienced advise me as to whether they should be blown up fully or left a bit softer??
I need MAXIMUM all night comfort.
Thanks.

troutpout · 21/05/2009 13:06

Aaaagggghhhh!
I missed mine!
had to go out this morning and citylink took it back to their depot

pootle1803 · 21/05/2009 13:07

oh that would be very annoying - feeling v.sorry for you

pigsinmud · 21/05/2009 13:11

omg - you've all made me ridiculously excited about a camping mat. Ordered 2 for the boys this morning - well they were for the boys, but now I've decided dh & I are having them! Did you get yours the day after ordering?

pootle1803 · 21/05/2009 13:14

only ordered them yesterday - just standard delivery, arrived just now!

smee · 21/05/2009 13:38

Stop me stressing - did you get an e-mail confirming order and telling you it had been dispatched. I've had zilch..

Doodledoo · 21/05/2009 13:55

Hurrah - ours arrived 5 minutes. T'is now inflated and v marvellous. Like Pootle it did need a good top up of air and I did nearly pass out, but that may have been excitement. I'm v v impressed - a great product.

Smee (are you named after Mr Smee in Peter Pan by the way??) I had 2 emails from Alpkit. One acknowledging the order and the other telling me my order had been 'printed'. No specific dispatch email.

Pootle I'm reckoning that it'll be trial and error as regards how much air - I've put in enough so as my hip bone doesn't feel the floor, but it feels like there is scope for 'topping up'.

We're going camping this weekend - even if it is snowing.

smee · 21/05/2009 14:05

Doodledoo, not sure I remember why my name is such, though possibly the dim, sub servient one on the pirate ship sums me up rather well..
Right I will e-mail Alpkit and ask where my e-mail is then. Glad the fat one arrived for you though. Happy camping

Sunshinemummy · 21/05/2009 14:06

Lancelottie I just laughed out loud at my desk at your e-mail. I think possibly you should start an AIBU thread...

troutpout · 21/05/2009 17:43

guess what...Mr city link came back!!
Oooh my lime fatty is puffing himself up as we speak.

muffle · 21/05/2009 18:24

Got mine today too! - also without asking for special delivery. I was a bit alarmed at first that they didn't appear to inflate, but they are now fabulously fat! Great orange colour too. Me and DS have been rolling and bouncing on them. Camping next weekend, unless there's an actual blizzard

However on the website it says each airic comes with a puncture repair kit, but i couldn't find these. Did you all get yours?

troutpout · 21/05/2009 18:49

No!...i was just coming to ask about that muffle
I didn't get any either

troutpout · 21/05/2009 18:49

just the carry bag

glastocat · 21/05/2009 18:54

God I am so jealous. I bet they take ages to get to Ireland. Would they be any good for taking down the beach to lounge on?

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 21/05/2009 18:56

So - are they really that good? Our airbed is a tad leaky and I'm thinking of replacing it....

muffle · 22/05/2009 09:02

I haven't tried them overnight yet but they do seem brilliant. Like a thermarest but much thicker - the fact that it's both air and foam makes it more comfortable and warmer than an airbed.

Even DP was impressed (tbh I bought them without telling him because I knew he would say it was pointless as we have an airbed). But he moans about camping because the airbed is uncomfortable, and he tried lying on the airic and said "I have to admit it is amazing".

LilRedWG · 22/05/2009 11:08

Would love them, BUT they only do singles and DH and I do like a double.

How are they pushed together or do you get continental drift?

muffle · 22/05/2009 11:25

I'm planning to put them side by side and wrap a duvet around them, tucked under at the sides, to make a soft double bed. Then another duvet and blanket on top to sleep under. Having separate ones is what I want as I'm fed up of being joggled around on the airbed when DP moves.

I think it also helps if you squish your "double bed" into a small sleeping pod inside a larger tent, so that the sides of the pod hold the whole thing in place IYSWIM.

BTW I have emailed alpkit about the puncture repair kits and had apologetic email saying they're in the post. Hooray.

LilRedWG · 22/05/2009 11:27

Right - just need to convince DH that the budget creditcard can take it.
