Starting with nothing from me because the only two places I have camped I wouldn't go back to! One was surfers paradise in Croyde which was full of drunk teens and the other was in the New Forest and I can't remember the name.
So I'm on the lookout for new places so tell me (please) where your number 1 place to camp is and maybe we'll all get some suggestions of new places to go.

Only ever been to one, so hardly able to give an experienced view, but we do like it. it is where our caravan is stored and so we only go here. it is fab. Have seen other Mn'ers post about it. Not cheap, but good:www.theinsidepark.co.uk/insidepark

Dartmoor, Devon

Lovely campsite, good facilities and well kept. The pub in the village does amazing pub food and is walking distance from the site.

There's Red Shoot in the New Forest. Small, friendly, quiet. And there's a pub that does takeaway homemade food at the entrance

This is one I've been keeping to myself: Golden Grove at Llangenny, near Abergavenny. Scroll down to Llangenny in the listing. It's a field with a river running alongside, toilets and pay showers in a porta cabin and a camping barn. And a pub serving fabulous food and beer at the end of the entrance track (see a pattern emerging here?) It's very well situated for hillwalking, from the site you can walk up Sugar Loaf and it's only a short drive to walks up Blorenge and Skirrid Fawr. There's gorgeous countryside all around with pony trekking etc. It's run by Mr and Mrs Phillips. Mr P is small and wizened and has one tooth in his head and Mrs P is a tiny, but formidable, old lady who strolls around the site each day chatting to campers and carrying a big stick. She once saw off two tentloads of gits who'd kept everyone awake the night before playing loud music and singing. Mr P has some interesting stories, one being that Shergar is buried on the hillside of Blorenge... The first time I stayed there, about 15 years ago, it was £3 per person per night, I don't think it's gone up much since.

Sorry, rambled on a bit there, but it really is very good (But don't tell anyone, I don't want the place to get all busy and spoiled.)

We love Dernwood farm in e.sussex. No cars but allows campfires.

Shore caravan site in Achmelvich, Sutherland has a fantastic setting on the North-West coast of Scotland. Beautiful beach with pale sand and turquoise sea - on a sunny day it's like the Mediterranean (but cleaner). Becomes very crowded in school holidays, so June is the best month - with fewer midges than in July and August.

Migsy1 we've just been looking at that site in Ullswater, looks great. Plus Ullswater is the first place I camped as a teen

We like Usha Gap, Muker in Swaledale. 1/2 mile to the pub. Has loos and showers and is very remote.

Remember staying at the Quiet Site about twenty-five years ago - it was anything but! Some pissed git got tangled up in our guy ropes on his way back from the pub and partially collapsed our tent. Had to get up in the drizzle and put it right.

Have since heard many recommendations though, so I guess it has improved. It was recently in the news; some unfortunate man died from carbon monoxide poisoning while staying in a cabin there, and his wife became seriously ill

Oh dear :( I didn't hear that. Yes, it was a bit noisy at night but that was due to several babies crying.

We went to Red Shoot, had a look, it was small, crowded and had none of the forest feel to it. Weren't impressed, left straight away.

Went to one of the Forest Holidays sites instead. I think it was Holmsley. Nice.

I second Forgewood

Red Bank Farm is amazing! Quite slopey but has stunning views and I used to go to my nana's static there many times a year and I'm very fond of it.....

High bridge end farm small basic and has brilliant walking straight from the site......

Keep them quiet tho ;)

The Forestry Enterprise site at Kielder.
Big site for running around, BBQ allowed, little shop, lots outdoor sports and things going on around Kielder Water and Forest.

This is a lovely site near St Ives. Bit windy but immaculately clean and well run. Swimming pool and play area. www.littletrevarrack.co.uk/

Deers Glade my best site yet, lovely woodland walks, great kids play area, goats, dog sitting, hog roast, but not space for my dates this year
