Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

Thanks, Funtime

And originally I loved the Trangia but was worried about the meths! I'm such a scaredy cat about fire.

Also disappointed that the Trangia site states that it's 'ethanol that has made undrinkable through the means of additional additive'. Party poopers! Wink

Funtimewincies · 16/08/2011 20:18

It's slower than gas lovecat, but gas bottles give me the willies Blush. The little kettle (enough for about 3 mugs) takes between 5 and 10 minutes to boil solidly, depending on how much meths is in the burner. You need to make sure that you've got the hinge thing fully open. An open pan of water is 10 minutes but once boiling it's the business. I do boil in the bag rice for 4 and leave the sachets in the hot water while I heat up chilli or such. You can also do stuff like Thai curries without any fuss as well.

People can laugh if they want, but I love my little Trangia. I can feed a family of 4 without the bulk of gas stove and bottles.

muchostinky · 16/08/2011 20:20

Trangia looks cool too, but oh I dunno - not gimmicky enough for me maybe! Grin

Or maybe I am a poser and would want something that others would covet!

Funtimewincies · 16/08/2011 20:29

Gimmicky is not an option for us, I'm afraid. We have to get 2 adults and 2 children plus all equipment into a ford focus (no roof box or trailer). If it doesn't pay its way, it has to stay at home Grin.

A bigger stove would mean less wine Blush!

muchostinky · 16/08/2011 20:38

We have a Renault scenic, so a bit more room thankfully. I get how gimmicky can be bad - but a Cobb and a Tripod are the ones I really want. :)

muchostinky · 16/08/2011 20:39

And I get your worries about lack of wine fun

JetLi · 16/08/2011 20:42

DP has gone out for chocolate. Both DDs are asleep - its a bloody miracle!

Have done a two week stint in France with a couple of trangias - once you get the hang of them, they are brill I think and meths is widely available. Funtime - am I right in saying you can use petrol at a push? Can't remember. I make a mean moules mariniere sur la trangia.

pmsl at scaryt off her tits on pain killers [grain]

yellow - you sure you haven't been visiting the neighbours again Hmm

Funtimewincies · 16/08/2011 20:48

I'm sure that petrol would work, although I'd never risk it!

Moules Mariniere sur la Trangia sounds ace Grin. Thanks for the faita tip on the 'one stove' thread yellow, I'll give that one a try at the weekend Smile.

MisSalLaneous · 16/08/2011 21:15

I've been on the paint strippers for 2 days. So far this thread is making me laugh so much my tummy aches - you lot are mad. Loving the bankers draped over the sofa upthread.

Ooh, and hellooooo slubber! Not completely sure what some of those words meant, it must be my sloppy German and not your beer.

PS: Not having some midlife crisis after being a perfect teen - have been stripping varnish from wood. People slapping varnish on beautiful wood should be shot. Anyone thinking sniffing paint strippers is a good social activity should go out more. Preferably to a well-ventilated area...

Goldfish moment: love the new thread title!

YellowDinosaur · 16/08/2011 21:19

I'm liking the sound of moules mariniere sur trangia too! Sure it would be just as good sur camping gaz stove Grin. one to add to the one pot list...

A pleasure opn the fajitas tip Funtime! Smile

Jetli are you trying to imply that I am drunk? I'll have you know that I have only JUST poured myself a glass of wine! I have will power honest!!!

YellowDinosaur · 16/08/2011 21:21

cross posted MisSal! You'll not like my lacquered oak floor boards then! Grin

Have to say I do agree with you though. I'd have liked the waxed ones if I didn't have 2 children and 3 cats and am far too lazy to do all the necessary maintenance

JetLi · 16/08/2011 21:22

Grin YD

I feel somewhat nauseous following half a tub of Haagen Das & some Gu chocolate rolls

MisSalLaneous · 16/08/2011 21:31

Nono Yellow, I fully appreciate floor boards - hell, at the moment I'd take bright pink plastic carpets over the formerly cream ones we have. Disastrous effect of toddler incompatibility never to be under estimated. This, however, is an old and scruffy antique dropleaf table. It was abuse towards tabledom, honestly. I feel I have liberated it (it being the wood and my mucous membranes).

Ah, and now that I've had a look at the bin - Bramble, you are brilliant!! Grin

scaryt · 16/08/2011 21:44

Still enjoying the effects of co codamol.

I made a nutella cake in a mug with the small one today. 90 seconds in the microwave and we were eating cake lovely warm, chocolately cake.

Did I see that Slubber's been enjoying consuming lichen....bearing in mind I'm half cut here?

YellowDinosaur · 16/08/2011 21:47

Yes we are fuckwits also owners of cream carpets which was a fairly silly choice given that we have 3 cats and 2 kids and WE CHOSE THEM BlushHmm

In fairness we have wooden floors / amtico downtairs and the carpets are just on 1st and 2nd floor. So not as bad as it could be apart from the first step on the stairs that for some unknown reason our cats have decided to use as a toilet. Nice.

YellowDinosaur · 16/08/2011 21:47

And good luck with the table - sure it will be lovely once you have done and the lung disease will be worth it [grain]

MisSalLaneous · 16/08/2011 21:52

[grain] Gin

scaryt · 16/08/2011 21:53

Good god my last post is barely legible.

MisSal would love wooden floors. We just have manky carpet. That we put in, it's grim and since dh cleaned the awning (yep, in the house) it smells of old cheese.

Which reminds me. If anyone can remember the smelly frog incident from the first thread? The wardens thought it might be....wait for it....stinkbomb fungi. I kid you not. However they couldn't find any round the pitch. So it was smelly lumpy hoppy frogs. But it has gone. You have no idea how pleased I am about that. As you were....

brambleschooks · 16/08/2011 21:58

Sorry, I've been out having a roller disco on slubber's drive with the locals, the ehu boom box and the flashing fairy lights really went down well. I've got to get back now, the karaoke is raving.

JetLi · 16/08/2011 21:59

Grin brambles - you are gonna be in soooo much trouble...

ReshapeWhileDamp · 16/08/2011 22:05

scaryt - 90 sec microwave cake?? In a mug?? Linky, please!Grin

That might be a life-saver. For me, I mean, not the DSs.

scaryt · 16/08/2011 22:12

Nutella Mug Cake [big grain] Grin

scaryt · 16/08/2011 22:13

There was no fannying around with whipped cream or making it look pretty, we just went straight for demolition.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 16/08/2011 22:19

Damn. I'm MAKING that tomorrow! It's worth buying Nutella for.

(I'd imagine it's a bit like a Gu choc pudding?)

lostinwales · 16/08/2011 22:19

Slubber was here, cooooool. I am still wiping the wine from my nose after seeing what bramble did to her bin. You must have set her anti bunting senses into overload!

Wow you guys talk lots when I am away slaving x-raying holiday makers who have fallen over on the beach at the coal face. I'm very proud of SeaShells hitting her IV mark every time, it's a sad but true fact that I really miss sticking needles in people.

Whoever was worrying about a bad back and camping, mine is normally better when I'm on a SIM with minimal pillows than at home. (I did take note of your name but my phone has changed it to ScRuBlush)

Thank you reshape for the tarp info, we have been having trouble with ours and DH is very pleased with a new way to try next time.

Well our camping on Sunday was lovely up to the point where DH became really poorly and spent the night round the campfire shaking and being sick. Had a hectic morning at work hiding the children from patients until he could see a Dr and get himself sorted. He's booked in for cystoscopy which secretly makes me snigger as it seems like some sort of payback after I gave birth to his three (HUGE) children with no sympathy. (I'm not a very nice person am I?)

Oh boy, off to bed soon, this work lark is great up to a point but you don't get much time to yourself do you? [grain]
