Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

pmsl at the dyac site - very funny indeed! Very excellent link & I have a friend who will love it but I'll have to wait a couple of weeks as they have a bad back, and I'm not sure uncontrollable laughing will help Wink
Well I nipped off to Home Bargains this morning on a fruitless mission for a collapsible colander (a la Aitch's thread last week or week before). However I am please to report that HB seems to be a veritable treasure trove of branded canned beverages. Gordons & T, Pimms & lemonade, Bacardi + various fruit-based accompaniments, Jim Beam & cola, all around 99p to £1.29 max.
back later, tired baby to soothe.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 17/08/2011 16:17

I would triangulate with the guys either side of the poles / | . Iyswim? no idea if it would work though, but should do...

Yellow are you an orthpod or soft tissue surgeon? I prefer medicine but have to do everything - although I'm wary of anything involving drills and bones Grin

Kids are loving the Childminder (phew) and finally off to see the final HP film this week to celebrate end of first week at work :)

I hope you all find your kit- it's so frustrating, drives me mad when I know I have something can't find it (although it's usually paperwork)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 17/08/2011 17:03

I've had DYAC up all day now! DS1 couldn't work out why I was laughing hysterically before lunch, but was happy to join in. Grin

We do have a lot of medical people on this thread! I hope the demographic is reflected in your average campsite - could be handy. Wink Yellow, am seriously envious of your job. If I could have survived the training (ahem, drawing a veil over my very arts-y A-levels) I'd have loved to do that. It always seemed to me an ideal balance between working with your brain and your hands.

OK, so thanks to ScaryT, I now have a jar of Nutella in the house for the first time EVER. I always thought I didn't care for it. Turns out I really, really do. For some reason, we seem to have run out of clean teaspoons... Basically, it's gianduja, isn't it? om nom nom

scaryt · 17/08/2011 17:07

I apologise now for the nutella influx. I do love nutella though and would happily eat jars of it with a teaspoon.

notwavingjustironing · 17/08/2011 17:08

Hi Five Funtime! - I seem to be channelling you all at the moment with my parallel thinking...

Seashells thanks for the windbreak advice I will try it out

Just off to Home Bargains for some gin in a tin kitchen roll

lostinwales · 17/08/2011 17:54

Yellow is far to nice to be an orthopod. Give us a go on your scalpel though and I'll get your x-rays hot reported for a week [wunk]

I really want to go camping this weekend but there are loads of things on, don't people understand it's August and I need to be in a field? My SiL has organised a massive party on the Saturday of the bank holiday too, I LOVE DN who's first birthday it is and worship at the feet of my fabulous newly 65 mother in law but it's the best camping weekend of the year FFS. Can't we celebrate at the end of October or something?

I have a collapsable kettle so I NEED a matching collander. for DH to use as I am too lazy to cook on holiday

Have spent lots of today [snurk]ing at the mental image of brambles stealth decorating slubbers bin. I vote she should go the whole hog and paint the entire house in a Cath Kidston print.

I second the / | \ guys for the windbreak, this held ours steady (even when the dutchman next door was changing all his pegs to storm ones (have I made these up?) when it got really windy.)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 17/08/2011 18:03

Hadn't really thought I'd need pegs and guys for the windbreak (was going to take the beach one) but of course, it's just yet another big sail in terms of camping, isn't it? [grain] Is there no end to the stuff I need??

I just made three ramekinsful of that Nutella Mug Cake mix and oh god, it's nice. I thought it'd be all gloopy and brownie-like (ok by me) but it's actually cake-y! In 90 seconds. How is that possible?? My life is changed, for the fatter.

We have no Home Bargains within 60 miles, but I reckon Wilko is the closest substitute. I feel very nostalgic about gin in a tin Grin, because I used to treat myself to an M&S one (and some sushi) on the train back from Cardiff at the weekend, when I used to teach there. DH would pick me up at the station, nicely toasted!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 17/08/2011 18:14

Oh lost I needed your expertise today! First time let lose with a new (to me) machine, 20mths after the last time I did. Lots of poor collimation and sl rotation grrrrrr got there in the end (and still don't know what is making the dog lame Hmm) but it's frustrating how steep this learning curve is again!!

I've had a similar issue with lots of lovely people getting in the way of us taking holiday, oh well! Off to the beach instead the minute it decides it's still summer and gets hot again :)

scaryt · 17/08/2011 18:17

The speed of the mug cake thing is some kind of weird magic. It shouldn't work but it does.

lost - I'm in love with that collapsible kettle.

WeesaD · 17/08/2011 18:47

Off to Ruda, north Devon on Monday with DD1 (16 weeks) and DD2 (6).
Rain forecast....:(

Gonna need wine...lots!

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 17/08/2011 18:50

big dyac fans in this house Grin

I don't have a microwave

brambleschooks · 17/08/2011 18:52

Many thanks for the home bargains tip - I am watching the weather in the south and so far the area I want to camp in is WET.

Slubber: There is no longer bunting on your bin. cough [grain]

I third the opposable guys pitching.

Slubber will tell you, I am so quiet that you would not notice me and am the very epitome of ladylikeness and demure behaviour. [grain]

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 17/08/2011 19:22

Filthy-I've got 2 very small children and an IPhone and a dh that works long hours, and a tv that has awful reception! I only really check threads I'm on... I've got very selective these days!!

YellowDinosaur · 17/08/2011 22:01

Seashells I am a general surgeon which basically everything other than bones, heart / lungs and transplants. Although within that very broad area I want to specialise in breast cancer treatment and reconstruction. I'm working in that area at the moment which is fab! lost you're on! Wink And reshape I love my job too. I like being able to do something definitive to make people better (not that it always works...) and I like the creative side of breast reconstruction so yes its pretty well perfect - I feel very lucky to be doing something that I love so much AND be able to get reasonable work / life balance by working part time.

Very jealous that so many of you are packing up for more camping though. I'd love another trip this summer but don't think its going to happen. Hope you all manage to find your stuff! Notwaving I'm beginning to get a bit scared of you preempting everything on this thread!! First same comment as lovecat now psychicly (is that even a word Hmm) predicting where funtimes stuff was... Can we have the lottery numbers please? I'm not greedy - 5 would do me!

Nutella on my shopping list for tomorrow [grain]

For those of you looking for Aitch's collapsible colander - I read her thread when I was at Mum and Dads and no HB anywhere close so looked on ebay and found the same one for only a couple of quid more including postage. No more of that type to be found anymore (just checked for you) but they have loads of other ones that tbh are probably better. It does look great but I am not sure how functional it will be as a chopping board too which was the main draw (I do like stuff that has multiple functions!) as it has holes in it!

Seashells sorry you're finding it frustrating having to learn everything again back at work. It took me several months to really feel like I was back on form as my confidence was really knocked by being off on mat leave. Not helped by the fact that both times I was really fainty and nauseous when pregnant and couldn't operate or cover my on calls for the last few months because of this. Sure it will all come back eventually though!

Well tonight I am going to be a good girl. I am shattered but my problem is I always get a second wind about now, especially after a glass or 2 of wine! So no wine for me tonight and I am off to have a good nights sleep! See you all tomorrow...

ReshapeWhileDamp · 17/08/2011 22:08

Feeling celebratory because DS1 finally did a poo in his potty after asking to! (e.g. a big deal, as he's 3.5 and we have been despairing a bit) And DS2 is asleep (for now) in his own cot (e.g. not on my lap downstairs) so that's good too. I've been making bunting for the tent Blush out of some very special Mexican stripey fabric I've been hoarding for about 11 years, which feels fitting, as I feel I've got something to celebrate now! [grain]

brambleschooks · 17/08/2011 22:15

Sleep well YD. I feel like I need to revise before I go back to work and I've only hd summer hols.
Yay reshape! My ds1 was like this and finally sorted it around the same age (ish). It's ok though because now one of the little dears is leaving poo stripes on the towels.there will be lightening inspections of the bathroom...

5ofus · 17/08/2011 22:27

Just marking my place on new thread having spent ages trying to catch up. V tired due to early start and day spent walking around Longleat.

Loving tins of G&T, bin decoration and general bunting related nonsense. Congrats on poo in potty.

4 days to go until our trip to Holland Grin so lots of packing to be done.

notwavingjustironing · 17/08/2011 22:55

Come with me to Anglesey Yellow Grin

In case you can't - 3,18,42,6,7,23

Just saying .......

OP posts:
brambleschooks · 17/08/2011 23:02

Just strolling through as I had to stop reading dyac as I was laughing so much that I was almost sick.

scaryt · 17/08/2011 23:44

Rest of household is asleep and I've got tears rolling down my cheeks as I try not to guffaw over dyac.

lovecat · 18/08/2011 00:21

Yay for a poo in the potty!

Well, I managed to lose a cast member today but found a replacement tonight - I tell you, this show is like a revolving door! Doing my stress levels no good whatsoever...

Yellow/anyone else who wanted an H&B folding colander, if you are anywhere near the Liscard branch they had about 10 of them in various colours last week - when I went home for my Dad's thing I went shopping before I went home again - where my mum lives is a veritable feast of cheap-but-useful shops - Wilkos, H&B, B&M, Poundland... and I picked one up in bright green.

I daren't open Dyac - I can't be caught laughing at work and I don't want to wake DH up now!

YellowDinosaur · 18/08/2011 09:15

Yippee reshape! Great news about ds1 Grin

Grim poo stripes brambles! Is this what I have to look forward to with 2 boys? Still pmsl whenever I go onto dyac [grain]

5ofus Longleat is fab isn't it! We were there a couple of weeks back and had a fab day

notwaving I would LOVE to come to Anglesea! Sadly work means I can't - boo hiss! Definately putting those numbers on though! [grain]

lovecat I have the green colander too - all good! Glad you found a replacement cast member in time!

Well I feel much better for a good night sleep. Boys were fab this am too and got up to play together downstairs while I dozed in bed and then read my book. This is a relatively recent development but one I like a lot! Not quite relaxed enough to go completely back to sleep while they are downstairs as bedroom is on the top floor of a 3 story townhouse so not entirely convinced that I would wake up if one of them had an accident. But not a million miles off that!

Today is chilling and boring stuff like Asda this am and then meeting up with friends this pm so all good! Sure I will find time to check in here too Grin

brambleschooks · 18/08/2011 09:21

Coffee. And I need a folding kettle and a folding BBQ. It is not fair.

Yes, life with two boys is brill but very messy. They are pretty fabbo camping though, and get the dinner on quick smart whilst I pop the tent up.

Too much roaming the house in the night, but ds2 well and his glucose monitor showing a steady line.

I was a little disturbed also by the chanting Druids who have moved in on slubber's drive, now that the age of aquarius has dawned on her bin.

scaryt · 18/08/2011 09:22

Yay for that poo in the potty. We too suffer from the grim poo stripe but only on towels!

lovecat - this show really does seem to have been a drama for you!

notwavingjustironing · 18/08/2011 09:47

Lovecat - did the teacher who felt it was inappropriate to appear in the play stay? Or have you had to replace someone else besides that?

Boo indeed Yellow. Still, when you've won the Lotto millions thanks to me, you can jack in work.

Roaring at the Druids..... Can you not get someone to put a bedsheet on and take a wobbly picture, then casually put that on your profile too?

Yay for the poo ! Grin

I dreamt last night that I had put the tent up but forgotten to do the guy ropes so it blew away. Hope this isn't a premonition... Am feeling a bit sick at the amount of stuff I appear to be taking maybe I'll leave the boys behind and just pack some more wine and books
