oh how I wish we could eat out of the stalls - they looked fantastic. and dh & I sampled some of it.

but the organisation side is just my daily life - have ot do it wherever we go, so the middle of a field is not daunting, as long as I can have a cool bag and cooker! now, a 24 hour flight to Australia was challenging, since the airline couldn't cater for the girls adequately. after that, havign access to shops and food stalls (even if all they can eat is chips!) is easy

but that's why I draw the line at organising tents etc as well. we werwe in podpads, and loved it

We were in Camping Plus, a long slog back but very quiet at night and loads of space.

We had a garden trolley for DS which we dismantled to put in our car (a 7 seater MPV). It was great as he fell asleep in it every night meaning we could stay out.

Foodwise - we did the freezing food thing and took stuff like pasta and Dolmio sauce (which actually all came home with us as the food from the stalls was so lovely ). We also bought milk from the shop on the way back to our tent at night and it was fine for morning. On Sunday morning we took the car down to the Spar in Wool and got breakfast stuff from there. Definitely worth thinking about if your car is reasonably accessible, the shelves were full and it was only a 2 minute drive.

Traffic in on Friday was worse for us, Monday was a breeze (left at about noon).

Glad you all enjoyed it, we loved The Gruffalo and Suggs doing a set in the Boden tent on Sunday night was a highlight, we were very lucky as were child free due to nieces babysitting and managed to get to the Coctails and Dreams bar every night which wwas fab.

I apologise about the hills, you want to try them in winter when it is wet, slippery and muddy

DreamTeamGirl · 05/08/2010 09:52

We were in Green too, and although we had to do the hills (those awful hellish hills!!) it was nice and quiet with a good atmosphere

Agree about the loos, surprisingly good and clean- although the sawdust ones by the castle stage were a bit icky, and the children's ones had gone over the loo seat by 10pm Sunday night

Over heard an organiser talking to someone and said they had had 25,000 people through and early signs showed a profit of around £85.00 !!!!!!
Apparently they dont make a profit as such on it, just draw salaries (and I am sure they ARE good ones) and plough anything left back in, but its more about having fun and having a good festival for families
traffic was utter utter hell both ends

Noellefielding · 05/08/2010 23:46

Actually I am increasingly irritated that I didn't do more, we just missed so much! But I'm going to try to not be full of regret!

Fivegomad - I'm too too too too jealous to be in touch with you anymore, I'm so jealous of you living there that I have to go lie down and eat weight watchers yog...

NF I think it is the nature of the beast when you go to festivals with children, main purpose is their entertainment and then we hope to fit in some music we likeGrin

we sometimes take turns in responsibility for child while the other goes for a 'gig' or some other activity, dd is 5 now so more able to cope but I find the first day tests her limits then she acclimatises

regarding traffic we stayed nearby Thursday so getting in was not a problem and leaving it is either really early or toward the the end really,

hmc · 08/08/2010 15:15

"NF I think it is the nature of the beast when you go to festivals with children, main purpose is their entertainment and then we hope to fit in some music we like"

Which is why I didn't especially enjoy it - I still haven't got that whole self denial parenting thing down to a fine art,and ended up completely resenting the children for stopping me from seeing and enjoying some of the stuff that I like. I might try and persuade some of the school mums to do Camp Bestival 2011 with me, whilst leaving the children at home with their husbands

sailorsgal · 08/08/2010 15:39

I heared they did day tickets last year but not this year is that right?

sfxmum · 08/08/2010 17:33

hmc I am sorry you did not enjoy it, you misunderstand me, I don't go for self denial it is pointless, I enjoyed it for what it is, family time, just meant I don't go to this sort of festival for the music, I go to gigs of bands I like with mates sans child sometimes with husband

regarding day tickets I believe they did them this year too

hmc · 08/08/2010 23:19

Please don't think I was knocking you, I do get what you were saying Smile

sfxmum · 09/08/2010 19:41

no worries I actually felt quite frustrated at the first festival I went to after dd was born, she was 2 and I missed the singer I really really wanted to see and a few more

but there will come a time went they have their own tent and pretend not to know us unless they need cashGrin
