Five, as my official festival guru, can you tell me if glass is not allowed on the camp site or just the festival site?

Still not packed!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/07/2010 14:50

Not on site at all, they check bags when going in.

Saw he site today it is amazing they have a whole circus bit going on helter skelters, flags everywhere.

DomesticG0ddess · 29/07/2010 17:19

That sounds really cool! But re: the glass thing, not that I am planning on rebelling, but how are they going to search everyone's stuff/camper vans??

OP posts:
thatsnotmymonkey · 29/07/2010 17:34

Hmm, I am not sure I get it. from the camping area do you get searched as you get on to the site?

I could shove one of those slim line G&T cans down my pants.....

DomesticG0ddess · 29/07/2010 18:17

I could smuggle drinks in for people using my bump

Domestic you have given me a brilliant idea- I will don my old maternity jeans- the one with the giant waist band- and stuff it full of booze!!

We have packed! I have made my fritata and it tastes bloody lovely. I am now deliberating whether or not to do a batter mix to make pancakes with in the morning...tell me what to do please?

topiarygal · 29/07/2010 23:48

I'm so excited now - packed up and epi-penned to the max.. This is our first festival with seriously nut allergic child so wish me luck!!! Reckon I need a epi-pen:wine ratio of 1:12! Have a great time, maybe see you tomorrow

Well I am back. As expected, it wasn't all that

MarionCole · 02/08/2010 21:26

I'm back. We all had fun.

thatsnotmymonkey · 02/08/2010 21:32

We had a great time, really really good fun. Friendly Fires were amazing, as was Calvin Harris. It was such fun and I am loath to admit it, my best bit was The Isle of Boden me and DH loved hanging our there reading books with out DS. Also we had so many admiring looks and comments about our gorgeous little pixie DS. His fancy dress was THE BEST.

However £10 for a programme that was largely a load of old piss was quite annoying and the lack of stewards on site for any kind of advice was also annoying.

How did you all get on?

MarionCole · 02/08/2010 21:45

No no no no, DS as a dragon was THE BEST

Thought Calvin Harris was good, loved Billy Bragg. I don't actually know what we did all day!

sfxmum · 02/08/2010 21:53

we got back today
had a lot of fun, Justin deserves a Knighthood
we spent a lot of time at the Children area

loved Calvin & Friendly Fires, missed most of Billy as dd just about went into meltdown, the previous act was atrocious
caught a few smaller acts which were interesting as was the opera, we watched it at the Bandstand

thought the playground and the animals were great and kept dd busy

but they need to sort a few things out, the noise at the camping area was too much for a family festival

thatsnotmymonkey · 03/08/2010 11:42

Yes the noise was terrible, and we were in the campervan area. I thought it would all be quiet by 11pm....but no at 1;30am I was awoken to the delightful sound of some ragga style drum and base MC-ing. Effing awful!

I saw loads of famous people too- camped next to Kevin Bishop- he was being a right arse to his wife
Saw Samatha Janus and Martine McCutcheon
That guy from Jossies Giants
Tim Mitchim getting a load of free clobber for his kids at Boden.
Gael García Bernal-
The Burritos in the kids field were AMAZING

sfxmum · 03/08/2010 11:50

Gael was there? he is so tiny
so probably hard to spot

I was at the start of Red camping
just down from the sports bit, the worst noise offender was the bar selling Drambuie far too loud far too late, I don't mind normal festival sounds, silly teen talk or normal chitchat

thatsnotmymonkey · 03/08/2010 11:58

That Drambuie Bar looked good, but that is out of order!

I know, he was stunning, just perfect. It was only for a passing moment, he walked past me. God I thought I would be sick he was so gorgeous!

sfxmum · 03/08/2010 13:48

the only redeeming feature of the Drambuie folk was that they gave us a couple of free cocktails around 1pm on Friday mighty welcome after trudging up the hill and setting up the tent

sfxmum · 03/08/2010 15:58

btw did anyone see Lewis Floyd Henry one man band? totally made my day

omydarlin · 03/08/2010 16:16

oh i loved it - i missed this thread as I was on holiday in Portugal - we got there really late well 5 ish so no queueing or silly security stuff kbut had tro pitch in the Green field (near the tangerine fields) was on a little bit of a slope but otherwise all ok and quiet!! Left about 1.45 ish - once again no queues ...Madness, calvin , Thali , Churros, Mr Tumble all so fantastic so much stuff i wanted to do but couldnt!! I heard about free Drambuies - agree about the programme - didnt get to the Isle of Boden tent but DH did and was very impressed with the price of their coffee (!) Oh and CUBAN Brothers - so rude , so funny , so amazing!!

DomesticG0ddess · 03/08/2010 17:23

We had lots of fun too, though it was a large site for being 6 months pg and with a 3 yr old - would definitely have taken the trailer from the bike converted into a pram had we realised, instead of just the buggy chucked in at the last minute!

Didn't see any of the evening bands as we went back to camp, but enjoyed Mr Tumble, the Bollywood Tent, Gruffalo, Ellie Goulding, Hypnotic Brass and some other random acts.

Yes, programme was rubbish and I really wish it had been a bit warmer!!! Had nice reflexology and the Goan prawn curry from the Cornish Fish stall was lurvely! Saw the one man band!

Don't think I would go next year with a baby, too big, but might go back to Larmer Tree. I think 3 and half yrs was about the right age to start going too.

Glad everyone had a good time!

MarionCole · 03/08/2010 19:54

Oh yes, sfxmum, what a God-awful act before Billy. Incredibly DS managed to sleep through it.

Jolly Boys were good value too.

DreamTeamGirl · 03/08/2010 21:04

It was amazing!!!!!!!!!

Loved every second ofevery minute. With the exception of sleeping on very stoney ground.

Awesome

Noellefielding · 04/08/2010 10:51

We loved it too, kids stuff was brilliant.
Shame we were parked in Green camping in some ways as it was such a schlepp up that hill of DOOM to get to and from our camp site.

But

Best loos ever, most clean, most often re-papered of any festival ever.

Mr Tumble. Great booking but how pushy and aggressive can some parents be to make sure their ickle darling sees even if no one's darling behind can!

Had a lovely burrito too.

Loved Seth Lakeman.

But WTF Madness saying the 'C' word and that Rapper on Friday saying 'MF' infront of countless kids. Weird.

Trolley envy - we had our pushchair but god what about those Painted Wagons people have?? What size vehicles to those people come in?

Running out of food. Who had a coolbox to keep them in milk til Monday.

Traffic out of there on Monday =

Johnson's babychanging place - very clever, nice to have more wipes!

Noellefielding · 04/08/2010 10:56

Where is the best place to camp so it isn't too noisy
(Green was really quiet, we were near tangerine fields too)
to reduce shlepp up and down the mountain of Horror to site? I think we would have done more if a bit nearer.

Felt sad not to have go ds to more of the sports stuff.

But camping itself was fairly traumatic as we are not experienced campers!

I really respect those of you who have your s**t together. Camping is all about organisation isn't it? Hard work with 22 month old dd constantly absconding. Did anyone else bring reins? I wish I had, she was out of control with excitement and the urge to escape me.

silverfrog · 04/08/2010 11:54

we "camped" in boutique camping. mostly because, due to having to organise everyhitng else to the nth degree (dd1 is ASD), I couldn't face the camping and packing lists!

we did welll with food keeping. the girls are multiple food intolerant, so we always have to self cater.

I pre-froze ltos, which obvioulsy de-frosted over the weekend and was used. also, bung the frozen stuff, along with ice paks in a cool bag, and put the cool bag inside a coolbox. worked well for us, and we had food right up until sunday evening.

we don't use milk, so can't help you there, I'm afraid (although, surely UHT would be ok, if not actually cold? you could get the smaller cartons and use one a day?)

we took our P&T buggy - both dds now refuse to get in (6 and 3!) but it was useful for ferrying all the stuff around - blankets/juice/wipes etc. next year we will take our cycle trailer to do similar.

we loved it all - the girls were entranced, and dd1 got to meet her beloved Mr Tumble, so she was over the moon. dd2 braved the helter skelter (usually a scaredy cat) and loved it!

the weekend was all about the girls, really, and we didn't get to see much music, but heard it all anyway. was a great atmoshpere, and agree - there was so much more we could have done, given enough time!

sfxmum · 04/08/2010 12:24

NF the rapper T.Temper (sp) went overboard with excitement I think, he has some lyrics going something like 'I have so many clothes I have to keep some at my aunts' LOL

silverfrog fantastic organisation you got there, this year we ended up mostly eating out of stalls
shame I missed Seth couldn't work out where he was playing until it was too late
don't like Madness or Human League but there was plenty to do and see
