Lost 5 stone last year, gained back two - starting fresh today! Anyone want to join?

I lost 5 stone last year through calorie counting and 16:8 (eating in an 8 hour window). I went from 16st 9lbs to 11st 5. Unfortunately the back end of last year was very stressful and adding Christmas to the mix I'm now 13st 5lbsSad

Does anybody want to join me in calorie counting? I'm aiming for 1,200 cals a day, plenty of walking and a treat day every Tuesday (I ate a large dominoes each week which kept me on track and didn't hinder my loss at all)

Yes that’s the one. I love a Greek salad. It say a portion size is 30g but I would use this about 3 or 4 times to make a salad.

I just weighed myself and I feel really annoyed with myself. 75.9 kg. 11 st 9. Two years ago I weighed less than 9. I really need to stick to it this time to get down there again.

HappyThursdays · 13/01/2021 08:48

it is so frustrating. I am kicking myself because it's so hard and it's also such hard work. I really don't want to have to do this all again.

the good news is that we know we can do it as we've done it once before!

I also find I have to throw away the foods I know will tempt me. There are still mince pies and chocolates left over from Xmas - ice cream is my weak point. I'm just glad Ben and Jerrys stopped doing Chunky Monkey because that was a real draw for me in the evening!

stealthninjamum · 13/01/2021 10:12

I have a wardrobe of unwearable clothes and I am kicking myself too. I am short so even though I am probably only size 12 I look fat. And because I am squeezing into size 10 clothes from before lockdown there are rolls of flab and boobs spilling over my bra. I probably could still look ok if I bought size 12 clothes but I refuse to. Thank god it’s lockdown and no one sees me. I lose weight really slowly too so I’m hoping by Easter to be down to 11st. Even that seems ambitious. My maths above was wrong and I’m actually 11st 13. So practically 12 stone.

HappyThursdays · 14/01/2021 19:48

Yes I am the same. When I lost the weight, I threw all my 'fat' clothes away so I have a wardrobe of size 10 work clothes that mean I can barely breathe. I have to go into the office every now and then and I have to wear a dress!

I'm an apple so it's all round my waist

Evileyecherry · 15/01/2021 09:52

Oh dear 😩

I got off to a great start - three days of greatness. But over the last three days I have unequivocally fallen off the wagon.

I dared to get on the scales this morning after three days of none stop scoffing and drinking and it’s not as bad as I feared (but that could be that I’m dehydrated as a result of wine!!).

So - trying to pick myself up today.

I think for me I need to be more generous with my daily allowance so I don’t fall into this feast or famine cycle.

How is everyone else doing?

stealthninjamum · 15/01/2021 14:17

evileyecherry I have been doing this for four days, weighed myself yesterday and had put on 3lbs. I weighed myself again this morning and the buggers are still there. I’ll carry on because dieting is hard and I feel so much happier when I’m thin.

132orbust · 15/01/2021 21:29

I'm doing well thanks @Evileyecherry
7.5lbs in 12 days which is a good effort for me as normally the first 4lbs go easily but then its a slog from there.
I think it is a combination of watching what I eat at meals, cutting out snacks, exercising every day and dry Jan. It is definitely harder to do on a Friday and with the weekend approaching but if I want my clothes to look right again I have to keep going.
So this is where I am.

I find this recommended by the OP on another thread great when the weather is too miserable to go out:

Smile3 · 15/01/2021 22:38

Hello, I have bought myself a portion control plate so I can stop piling it all on and control more on what I'm actually eating less carbs more veg rather then the other way around Blush
I havnt had a loss this week even, so I'm trying to figure out why......
I really need to up my exercise as I normally walk doing the school run also finding it difficult to get out as youngest is a toddler and hates his pram and weather been bad. Another week of trying I guess x

stealthninjamum · 16/01/2021 12:07

132orbust did I understand correctly, you’ve lost 7.5lbs but your starting weight was only 151? That is amazing work to lose that much. I’m so jealous! I will be lucky to lose more than 2lbs in a week but obviously I will persist because I might reach my target by Xmas! (I’m expecting lots of weeks where I only lose 1/2lb). I think I’d like to lose 40lbs but this is the first time I’ve written it down and it feels daunting now. I think I’ll focus on being 11st by Easter as that feels more achievable.

132orbust · 16/01/2021 12:34

@stealthninjamum you did understand correctly.
I cannot believe it either as you can see from my earlier post!
And this morning another 0.25lb was gone so now it's 7.75lbs in 13 days.
I bought this: www.ocado.com/products/m-s-roast-honey-salmon-side-ready-to-eat-524903011
and I based a few meals around it in the last few days. It is very sustaining and delicious as I was getting sick of my usual turkey/chicken.
I am pleased but I think it probably knocks on the head once and for all my claim that I cannot lose weight now I'm over 50.
I am obviously just a bit of a glutton and eat much more than I think I do especially when I am drinking and now that I am doing dry Jan combined with 16:8 and upping the exercise it is working.
I know weight will screech to a halt at some point and that is probably tomorrow as we are having Cote at home tonight. I'll have soup at lunch but still I suspect the scale might be up a bit tomorrow.

stealthninjamum · 16/01/2021 20:09

@132orbust I’m so pleased for you, that’s very inspiring. I know I shouldn’t weigh myself daily but I have been and not lost. I was wondering if being menopausal (late 40s) was making it even harder for me but clearly you’re managing, so I just have to keep going.

That salmon looks lovely, I wonder if Sainsbury’s does something similar. I am only really eating chicken at the moment - and lots of vegetarian food - so might add some salmon to my online order. My dc like salmon too and it’s always a bonus to have the same thing as them.

132orbust · 17/01/2021 12:49

Thanks @stealthninjamum
As expected I am up 0.5lb this morning courtesy of Cote at home last night. It was worth every ounce of it and it will be gone by Tuesday and off I go again.
I found this on Sainsburys for you:
food-to-order.sainsburys.co.uk/product/8016691/boneless-scottish-salmon-side
and it looks good.

Bixs · 17/01/2021 12:56

I’m a bit late but is it ok if I join you?

I got down to 10 stones last year but have put on 2 over lockdown. I’ve lost a few over the past couple of weeks so I’m now 11st 9.

It’s really hard going though, the weight use to drop off me when I was in my 20’s and 30’s but now I’m over 45 and I struggle to lose anything if I don’t restrict my calories to under 1000.

HappyThursdays · 17/01/2021 19:58

I had done so well and then got a cold and felt sorry for myself so ate a whole sodding pizza and a load of sweets and because of the cold, I haven't been able to run so my exercise has fallen and my food intake gone up grrr.

I know the last time I did this, it took my body almost 6 weeks before the weight started falling - it's like it takes my body that long to accept a change is happening

I'm also late 40s and it really has made a difference to my ability to lose weight

I will wait for this cold to go and then start again, sigh! @stealthninjamum that cheese is in my next order!

stealthninjamum · 18/01/2021 08:57

@132orbust that 1/2 lb must be annoying. Are you feeling different yet? I know that there’s often a time lag between when you lose the weight and when you are actually thinner but 1/2 stone is loads. I would hope that when I’m down that much I’ll start to notice it. That salmon looks awesome, I think it’s only available to collect (but could be wrong). When I stop food deliveries I’ll order some and go in.

Last night I had Sainsbury’s be good to yourself Cumberland sausages. It was only 137 calories for two. I don’t know how many calories are in normal sausages but I would never have had them in a diet before but it’s easier to have the same as dc.

www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/Product/sainsburys-cumberland-sausage--be-good-to-yourself-454g

Welcome bixs I always struggle to lose anything (apart from when my ex left two years ago, then the weight just fell off) so I will be plodding along for the next year I’d imagine. If I can just get down to 11st I know my shape will change and I’ll feel really motivated.

I weighed myself and I’m 1 1/2lbs down on Thursdays weight but still 1 1/2lbs above wednesdays starting weight so I’m wondering if I just s wrote down my starting weight wrong. 1 1/2lbs in 5 days would be amazing if that were the case.

beckslovestimmy · 18/01/2021 09:03

Hi everyone, can I join you all. I've got to do something to shift these pounds I'm so uncomfortable!! I need to shift at least 4 stone. I'm going to go with calorie counting, adding in healthier higher fibre foods, more vegetables and more water. I have a bit of a challenge as I've got no kitchen currently as we're having building work done!! No oven but Im managing with a slow cooker, microwave and air fryer.

132orbust · 18/01/2021 11:06

It is a bit @stealthninjamum but it will be gone by tomorrow morning and we all know you cannot eat fillet aux truffes with creamy potatoes, fresh baked bread and pate on a saturday night and expect to be lighter the next day!
Reference your weight I suspect you did write it down wrong and you have indeed lost 1.5lbs in 5 days.
Welcome @beckslovestimmy - I heartedly recommend porridge sachets when cooking facilities are lacking.
Hoping you are feeling a little better @HappyThursdays.

stealthninjamum · 18/01/2021 11:30

@132orbust my fancy scales are metric and I convert to lbs as that’s what my head understands so I think I probably converted it wrong in which case 1 1/2 lbs in 5 days is bloody amazing.

132orbust · 18/01/2021 22:58

That will be it @stealthninjamum so 1.5lbs in 5 days it is!
BTW my fancy scales had a switch underneath to change from metric to imperial - yours might too.
I traded them in and go one with the buttons on top!

132orbust · 19/01/2021 07:55

Day 16
SW:151
CW:143
GW:132
Weekend 0.5lb gone and taken another 0.25 with it.
8lbs in 16 days.
Onwards and inwards.

stealthninjamum · 19/01/2021 08:59

@132orbust in theory my scales tell me how much body fat I have as well as weight for four members of the household and I think they do do lbs and stones but they have buttons without labels. I will see if it’s as simple as a switch, thanks for that.

I know I shouldn’t weigh myself every day but I did this morning and was down another .3lbs so assuming my starting weight was 166 I have lost 1.10 lbs. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that I can manage 2lbs in my first week. It’s ten weeks to Easter, I’d like to be in the 10s by then which means 1lb a week.

132orbust · 19/01/2021 11:31

Well done @stealthninjamum
Btw I think you are now down 1.8lbs which is even better.(1.5+0.3)
As you might have noticed I weigh myself every day too otherwise I gloss over the bad days and think I'll weigh tomorrow and tomorrow never comes.
It is why I put the gains on here alongside the losses.

stealthninjamum · 20/01/2021 07:58

Well I pressed buttons on my scales and didn’t work out how to weigh in lbs. when homeschooling is less busy I’ll google the scale instructions.

Anyway I am now 163.3 lbs which is almost 3lbs down on last Wednesday so yay! A good start.

132orbust · 20/01/2021 08:22

Good call @stealthninjamum and well done on the weight loss too!
Day 17
SW:151
CW:142.25
GW:132
0.75lb down
8.75lbs in 17 days.
Onwards and inwards.
