Infant feeding

The LEAST discreet place you've breastfed!

Following on from the Lorraine Kelly thread and her GMTV discussion (where she seems to think breastfeeding is only ok if it is 'discreet'), I wondered if people might be up for a discussion of the least discreet place they've fed their children.

I'll kick off: In an O2 store whilst DH signed up for an i-phone.

In fairness to the sales assistant, he did not bat an eyelid.

In a job interview - I was the interviewer! I'd come in specially while still on maternity leave, no-one to look after DS, needs must!

In McDonalds with our back to the main restruant but in front of a huge mirror.

At Hornsea Carnival in a crowd of a few thousand watching bands. Was very discreet until i stood up to get my changing bag and had forgotten to put boob back in bra or fasten dress.

Rebecca41, did the reaction of the interviewees influence your choice?

in the monkey house at the zoo yesterday, it was an up and over job rather than discreet 2 vests system! the nice zookeeper warned me to keep an eye out for the monkeys if they started eyeballing me

I've bf anywhere and everywhere, can't stand them being hungry and why wait if it's 'on tap'!

oh and in a living room display at john lewis, handily at the top of the escalator so everyone could admire the beautiful tableau we had created, i think we should've got commission for making their display look more lifelike

All over the place but my best BF moment was when DP was trying on a new suit in Ted Baker in Covent Garden. we were downstairs, DD was hungry and there was a handy sofa so sat down and fed her - what I hadn't noticed was the camera in front of me and that at the time their window display was a massive screen showing what was going on downstairs so I was being broadcast live to Covent Garden

Many times in church. Visually discreet with shawl over shoulder, but DS1 used to make vary loads "mmm" and slurpingh noises, causing giggles from elderley ladies. Our priest was very supportive of mums wanting to feed in church,as gthey are doing what's best for bay

On laura Ashley bed, which was on display in Laura Ashley sale

In management meeting at work

On a rug, in Kew Gardens, watching Jools Holland rehearse

Also in car on M4, waiting for AA to rescue us

Eurostar

on display feeding chair in Mothercare (toilets/feeding area had that awful blue light to stop drug users injecting) - only time I have ever had a negative comment (was from elderly member of public not from staff)

Have always been discreet (God bless pashminas and muslins), but proudest and most enjoyable BF was outside a pub in deepest West Cork in the sunshine, with a (small) G&T in my other hand!

On a bench in a busy high street.
My good but childless friend was mortified and commented that all the drivers were getting an eyeful.
I couldn't have cared less.

In the pub.

But I was VERY good at ensuring that you couldn't see a thing.

Oh and on the telly!

I was going to post that I've bfed at in the church at someone else's wedding, but I see I've been upstaged by artichokes bfing at her own wedding

A friend of mine breastfed her little one at the table in the middle of a wedding lunch and really wasn't very discreet. (i'e boob fully hanging out & all on display before she even brought the baby anywhere near her!) I think my (male) boss who was sat opposite her was a little put off his food by the sight of nipples while he was eating his chicken!

Report
confusedfirsttimemum · 08/07/2009 14:04

Didn't set this up as a competition, but I think Artichoke definitely has to be the winner so far too Policywonk. Additional respect for it being a full white wedding and therefore diffucult to get a boob out, and pretty much impossible to get it back in!

Last week I fed dd2 (8 months) whilst standing up in the park pushing dd1 on the swing. There were quite a few people around but no one stared or said anything. Dd is getting too heavy for a standing up feed now though my arm was aching for ages after - but parenting is all about multi-tasking!

Report
policywonk · 08/07/2009 14:13

Do I get extra points because DS2 was about 2-and-a-half at the time?

Report
Rhubarb · 08/07/2009 14:14

ON THE TV THOUGH!
