Infant feeding

The LEAST discreet place you've breastfed!

Following on from the Lorraine Kelly thread and her GMTV discussion (where she seems to think breastfeeding is only ok if it is 'discreet'), I wondered if people might be up for a discussion of the least discreet place they've fed their children.

I'll kick off: In an O2 store whilst DH signed up for an i-phone.

In fairness to the sales assistant, he did not bat an eyelid.

"Whilst DC was in car seat and I was standing outside (bit of a stretch)" - Goodness BottySpottom, you must be flexible. Was it at least a front facing seat, or did you have to wedge yourself between the back facing car seat and the seat itself?

I don't think I'm especially indiscreet about it. I've fed on GNER trains between London and Leeds though I don't on buses in London because it just wouldn't feel safe or comfortable, but we have a table to ourselves now (you don't need tickets for 2 dcs under 5 but you save more than you spend with a family railcard now for 1 and I think £5 return is well worth it to have a reserved seat for ds2 and know that no one else is going to lay claim to it).

Think the strangest place I've fed is in various meetings - several other babies come to the Toy Library management committee meetings and get fed there and they're all very well behaved and happy there, but no one else has done it in Labour Party meetings - DS2 went to his first at 3 weeks old. DS2 has been remarkably quiet each time but I probably won't be able to do it for much longer as he'll be getting more mobile and less quiet.

On the tube.
At the public swimming baths sitting at the pool edge.

At DD's own Christening.
And I forgot to do the bra clip up afterwards, so spent the rest of the Christening with one breast lower than the other!
(and flies undone, for good measure - was a slightly hectic day.)

In a crowded doctors waiting room, ds was a few weeks old, screaming for a feed, the waiting room was U shaped so they gave me no chance of being discreet. As I should, I fed my baby, although the screaming was definitely drawing everyones attention to me I don't think anyone gave any disapproving looks.

I'm with sleeps at the Dr's surgery. I then found out they have a REALLY nice room for bf'ing mums, just my luck really!

Favourite is on the back of an elephant - was a bit tricky getting wriggly year-old dd into position.

After being directed to the toilet in a large Mothercare, I fed DD om a display nursing chair.

Incidentally, the ladies loos in that store had a picture of a bottle on the front, so maybe they think that only women feed babies, and a toilet is a good idea, whatever the method.

Also whilst pushing a trolley round Sainsbo's. Nobody noticed though as it was winter, dd was sitting up in the seat and I had a big bulky coat that packed nicely round her. I walked along in a trance while dh went and collected things.

In the fast lane of the M4. Although traffic was at a standstill and I wasn't the driver

Front window of Starbucks.

TBH, everywhere I've fed has been discreet. It's a matter of how you feed rather than where.

DD does not yet understand about discretion. She randomly pulls away to smile and coo at anyone about. She yanks off any muslins or scarves. She is 5 months old.

Lorraine Kelly would be dissapointed in her.

It wasn't a public place, but one of the nicest places I fed was sitting on a tree stump in the middle of a forest. It was so peaceful. Otherwise I've fed in restuarants, libraries, museums, church.

At he church where I was getting married. I was in a traditional dress, tiara, veil etc and had to squeeze my boob out of the corset.

Walkingwomb - I love the idea of shopping for a wedding dress you can breastfeed in. Presumably it wasn't one of those corset affairs which you'd have to un-lace to the waist. Now LK would be very disappointed with that!
