That would be cow's milk.

Don't squeeze milk from a coe. It doesn't sound nice.

hercules1 - You said it was up to 2 and more relevant for the 3rd world. WHy so?

Because babies in 3rd world countries can be more at risk to disease and malnutrition.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:30

bovine mammary exudence

Yeah, right on!

jemart · 21/02/2009 23:31

You guys wouldn't be vegan by any chance? you have something against cows milk as a drink?
I drink cows milk too.

vlc · 21/02/2009 23:32

see my link to WHO wording...

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:32

Vegan???
Christ, no.

jemart · 21/02/2009 23:33

At 12 months I would class infant as a toddler rather than baby.

vlc · 21/02/2009 23:33

me too, Jem. Def not vegan

hunkermunker · 21/02/2009 23:33

So follow-on milk is more acceptable for a 1yo than breastmilk?

I'm not sure I follow your logic here.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:33

Jem, again....

So Jem, why is it ok to give a baby milk from a big slobbery farm animal that is designed to fit the needs of a calf, but not ok to give a human infant milk from its mother designed specifically to fit the nutritional needs of a small humaN?

I'm not picking a fight, I'm just really interested in how your logic works.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:33

I've just had a fag and a beer.
Does that help?

vlc · 21/02/2009 23:33

OK so to the hypothetical kitchen table question...

?

hunkermunker · 21/02/2009 23:34

Why would I have to be vegan to think that follow-on and/or cows' milk wasn't as good as breastmilk for a child over the age of one?

vlc · 21/02/2009 23:34

Stereo action again.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:35

Jemart, we are performing pincer movement on you in manner of Allies on Germans in 1945.

hunkermunker · 21/02/2009 23:36

Right, ladies, I'm bowing out to go to bed - because we're all posting the same thing and Jemart will doubtless feel ganged-up-upon at some point soon - which you're not, btw!

I would be interested to hear your reasoning though, Jemart.

vlc · 21/02/2009 23:41

After you moondog.

Sorry jem, we're all interested in reasoned debate, don't want this to feel like you're being jumped on. I'll sit this out for a while...

GreenMonkies · 21/02/2009 23:42

Jemart 'I actually agree that "After the age of one breast feeding is bizarre, unusual and not necessary." '

I'd love to hear your reasoning, please do explain.

jemart · 21/02/2009 23:44

Can only speak from my own experience of motherhood - at 10 months my dd had plenty of teeth and was eating proper food, drinking water and juice besides breast milk from me. We reached a point where she outgrew it, it was no longer needed beyond being a comforter to get her to sleep. I am not a walking pacifier, so stopped breastfeeding at this point.

Vegan comment was mainly because you all seem so dead against giving cows milk to children.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:47

I'm not against giving cows' milk to anyone, but I find it hard to understand logic that says it is ok for a humna baby, but giving human milk is unnecessary and odd after a certain age.

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:48

What's wrong with breastmilk being a comforter anyway?
Also, remember that a pcifier/dummy is a copy of a breast/nipple, not the other way around.

jemart · 21/02/2009 23:49

On that basis should adults drink breast milk also?

moondog · 21/02/2009 23:50

Milk is an infant food.
It;s not designed for grown ups.

Still wondering about your rationale for this one.

jemart · 21/02/2009 23:51

"What's wrong with breastmilk being a comforter anyway?" - nothing wrong with it but they don't stay babies forever, you reach a point where they move on to the next stage.
