found it quite upsetting at times. my bed was by the empties 'bottle bank', so saw how many people on the ward were bottle feeding. in the 4 days i was there, there were 10 women on the ward in total, and only myself and another lady was breastfeeding. The midwives offered help to everyone, but most decided on bottles.

the reason i found it upsetting was because i didnt want dd3 to have formula but that choice was basically taken away from me whilst she was SCBU and was given formula by tube.

I think that luciekatie may have meant that someone in that position reading this thread might be upset. Might be wrong but that's how I read it.

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 22:48

no you have missed my point...in previous thread various people said that to cut it short 'breast is best', this can make women feel a little bad, especially those who are not as fourtunate as others i.e...double mastectomy, also women who just do not want to breast feed.

and to top it all people then go on to take the p'** out of these women....just not on.

it looks like moondog has had several rants with people......

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 22:50

wanda is following me....think of other people feeling before judging

HunkerMunker · 01/03/2005 22:50

So should it not be said? Just because it might upset someone? True things should be never mentioned because they may upset someone? Seriously?!

HunkerMunker · 01/03/2005 22:51

May I link again to this thread entitled How we feel about our choices?

lilsmum · 01/03/2005 22:51

oh FGS!!!!!!! this thread should have a new title....playground behaviour!!!

wanda · 01/03/2005 22:53

The whole thread is about how things are said not about what is fact and what is not. Lost count of the times that people have stated that no one is arguing that breast is not best. It's just the attitude that winds people up

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 22:53

no things should be said but not in a manner that is judgemental.....ok how would you feel if you had a double mastectomy, but so desperatly wanted to breast feed, its taken out of your hands and people around are judging you....by saying that you have not given your child the best start in life....is that what people are saying about me because i chose not to breast feed.

moondog · 01/03/2005 22:55

It's like a surreal Eastern European farce isn't it?At least legalbegle used some logical thought processes...

FairyMum · 01/03/2005 22:55

Lucykatie, I honestly don't think that anyone is blaming women with no breast for not bf.

HunkerMunker · 01/03/2005 22:55

You said "breast is best" makes people feel bad - how is saying that judgemental?!

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 22:56

lilsmum....its just a debate....its a healthy debate, people need to air the differences....its not silly or playgroung stuff.....just a debate its what adults do.

FairyMum · 01/03/2005 22:59

Que?

snafu · 01/03/2005 22:59

Lucykatie, like I said before, please point me in the direction of anyone who would criticise a woman who had gone through a double mastectomy for not b'fing. I'm sorry but it's a completely ridiculous example, imo.

wanda · 01/03/2005 23:02

I think you should lay off luciekatie as this has obviously hit a raw nerve with her. Back off, she's upset.IMO

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 23:02

going to finish this debate as i have aired my views......need to go and bottle feed my baby.

lilsmum · 01/03/2005 23:02

it wasn't directed at you lucykate, just at all the bitchiness in this thread

moondog · 01/03/2005 23:02

Crikey snafu, respect to you for your patient attempt to make some sense out of this whole surreal scene!

snafu · 01/03/2005 23:03

Back off?

Oh, whatever. I knew I shouldn't have even bothered with this thread.

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 23:03

thanks wanda.....yes hit a very raw nerve but will not go into that at the moment.....cheers.

snafu · 01/03/2005 23:04

LOL moondog

lucykatie · 01/03/2005 23:05

ok lilsmum....really need to get off this computer....{smile}

wanda · 01/03/2005 23:05

Snafu. Back off may have been the wrong expression but I felt it was time to drop it. Sorry but felt the need to say it.

moondog · 01/03/2005 23:05

Lucykatie, petulant irrational out bursts don't scare ME off.
Oh, but don't let me keep you. Don't you have business to attend to?

lilsmum · 01/03/2005 23:07

so ....moondog... why have you got such a bad attitude?
