LOL something i heard today from an older lady to a new mummy!! She was saying she did try and BF baby but found she wasnt producing enough so was expressing to get her levels up but commented shes now FF. Lady said "oh well SMAs the sme as BM anyway" it took all my control not to go into a hissy fit
was also concerned as mum of LO said she has tried 3 different types of milk!

i tried sma once, i gagged. it tasted like cardboard (yes i used to chew cardboard as a child for fun)

SparklyGothKat · 07/08/2008 23:22

Niceshoes I take it you FF. I have no problems with people FF at all, and nor does Lisad (she is my sister) but the formula companys should not be allowed to promote formula milks as the same as Breastmilk, because it isn't the same That is what Lisad is saying, formula milk is not the same as BM

SparklyGothKat · 07/08/2008 23:25

misdee, you should have smelt the high engery formula I had to give Ds2, it smelt like rotten potatoes, not sure what it tasted like (never tasted it)

NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:26

do you often make knee jerk assumptions?why do you assume a liberal attitude equates to FF.you assume much and know nothing

misdee · 07/08/2008 23:26

nice! lol.

DKMA · 07/08/2008 23:28

Oh here we go again
Blah blah blah blah
This kind of thing seems to have been done to death on here.
If you feel so strongly about it go make yourself a placard and walk around the streets with a megaphone
Bleeting on here wont change anything!

lisad123 · 07/08/2008 23:28

its not a comment about whether or not someone FF or BF niceshoes, its about people truely believing FF is the same as BM, when it isnt. Im not going to get a debate about FF v BF thats not my bussiness.

OP posts:
NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:29

succinct and true.none of your business.end of.move on

DKMA · 07/08/2008 23:29

Oh and I BF

misdee · 07/08/2008 23:29

formula is NOT the same as breastmilk.

its that simple right?

why can we not ever comment on the untruths that are bandied about because of formula milk companies.

DKMA · 07/08/2008 23:32

Misdee what do you mean 'why can't we comment'
Seems to be a contstant debate on here!
I don't think the formula companies check on here though do they?

SparklyGothKat · 07/08/2008 23:34

i'm off!! I am currently BF DS2 and have FF in the past. I am not defensive because I gave my Dd2 formula, it was my choice.

But this isn't about BF V FF, its about the Formula company PROMOTING Formula as the SAME as Breastmilk, when it isn't. Its a good alternitive (sp?) to BM but is not the same!!!!

NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:34

cant comment!you are having a laugh some cant hold their water before having a go about FF

ChirpyGirl · 07/08/2008 23:35

Gosh, there's a lot of venom on here for no apparent reason, can't see the harm in what lisad (or anyone else, related or not) is saying.
Some people are very cross though, is it a full moon?

lisad123 · 07/08/2008 23:35

shes not saying they check but just that they band around comment, "like as close to BM"

OP posts:
NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:36

oh dunno are you hairy?feeling grumpy?yes your post is patronising enough for full moon

lisad123 · 07/08/2008 23:37

if you have that strong a feeling toward FF, stand outside with a board then!!

OP posts:
ChirpyGirl · 07/08/2008 23:38

I can't see anyone having a go about FF on here, saying formula is the same as BM is like saying lightbulbs are the same as the sun.
They both have the same purpose and gain the same end result but are most definately not the same thing.

Get down off your high horse and use those Nice Shoes to back away.

NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:39

self dierected comment?you are wound up enough to post.you get a board.rest of us watch tv and yawn

misdee · 07/08/2008 23:40

formula milk companies used to, dont know if still do as its been many years since i bought some, use phrases like 'closest to breastmuilk, 'now even closer to breastmilk'

i will admit i didnt really think about it much, as breastfeeding failed with dd1, and she was on formula milk because of that.

but now, i am older, wiser and more aware of advertising, however how subtle it is. even dh picks up on it 'oh look a follow on ad formula, is that baby really past 6months of age hmmmm'

i know people seek comfort in thinking that formula milk is the same/close to breastmilk, as have been there done that myself. but just dont like the advertising.

DKMA · 07/08/2008 23:40

ChirpyGirl - I'm not cross etc.....but it's just...........y'know............yawn......we've been there and done that.
I don't think there are many mumsnetters out there who do think formula is as good as bm, and the formula companies are evil and nasty and lie and hide things...........but debating the arse out of it on here makes no difference at all - it is just dull imo.

In response to the op - what was the intent behind the old lady's comment? Probably just to make her feel better? Then no harm done.

Dalrymps · 07/08/2008 23:40

SGC - the high energy SMA actually tastes ok, quite creamy, yum.

SparklyGothKat · 07/08/2008 23:42

does it really taste yummy?? I smelt it and gagged, but Ds2 needed it to gain weight, felt horrible giving him something that smelt like rotten potatoes..

NiceShoes · 07/08/2008 23:42

i dont like people running to a discussion forum to bitch about what someone else did/said about their own baby

unnecesary
not going to change whay that mum does
why do it

DKMA · 07/08/2008 23:43

Dalrymps you are just shit stiring now!
