Breastfeeding - every mother's right.

Give it a fucking rest will you.

LarryVeestAdamAntSpawnChorus · 29/03/2008 21:14

Whoa PM - I'm assuming there's an original thread I haven't seen, but that's quite unnecessary.

bb99 · 29/03/2008 21:16

Wow, glad to see women being so supportive and open minded PM.

OP posts:
fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:16

i prefer breastfeeding- every baby's right

pooka · 29/03/2008 21:18

PHatmouse - that was a little unnecessary.
Am useless at slogans, though I've really taken on board the argument behind moving away from breast is best, with a view to normalising breast feeding as it should be.
Has been interesting.

princessosyth · 29/03/2008 21:19

Wtf? Phatmouse did you actually mean to post that?

Lulumama · 29/03/2008 21:19

phatmouse, if you are not bothered about how you fed, or anyone else feeds, tehn why not wind your neck in , as you advised everyone earlier?

profsturg · 29/03/2008 21:19

why does this always happen. i wasnt able to breastfeed and i have to say i was given support on here but in general people think if u dont breast feed then you are depriving ur child.

fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:20

in fact, maybe they just shouldn't have any slogans.
that makes it into an issue, which it shouldn't be.

thing is, nothing will change unless HP's change, which unfortunately isn't going to happen overnight

bb99 · 29/03/2008 21:20

PM - post script

Every mothers right (to have all the information and training and support and access to the things she needs so she can make HER OWN CHOICE about how to feed HER OWN child and not just be side lined with crappy insufficient resources)

Not you MUST bf...

OP posts:
moondog · 29/03/2008 21:21

BB,that's quite good actually.
Women do need to feel they have a right to the best help and support rather than maybe feeling frightened and pressured into doing it because they should.

Lulumama · 29/03/2008 21:21

i thikn that investment in decent ante and post natal support and a huge shift in thinking in society generally is needed, but a good slogan is helpful !!

fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:22

profsturg, I am a failed breastfeeder of my ds1 too, and I hated when I would see people getting het up about breastfeeding stuff too.

but people aren't blaming mum's for depriving their babies of breastmil, they're blaming the people who let those mothers down.
we all know that breastfeeding can be bloody difficult and I don't think anyone on here would judge a mum for giving up when she has been through difficulties.
I personally do have a problem when I see people formula feeding who wanted to breastfeed but weren't given the right support.

pendulum · 29/03/2008 21:23

LOOK - FREE BABY FOOD FOR 6 MONTHS!!!!!

In your bra.

fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:24

hehe, the free thing is key to alot of people, but perhaps not the ones who are maybe more inclined to bottle-feed?
low-income families get milk tokens no? so free formula. so the price isn't relative. I may have got that wrong though

bb99 · 29/03/2008 21:26

How is asking this thinking you are depriving your child profsturg - I'm interested in making sure my dd has more info and support as her right, so if she can, she can choose.

This is motivated by the shocking amount I've found out about bf in the last 2 months, not a sinister wish to piss people off upset mums who will (generally) always do the best they can for their kids, or stand in as Judge Judy (I look awful in a wig ).

Maybe no slogan is the way to go (would seem to avoid offence) and just provide copious information like they seem to about every other aspect of pregnancy and child birth / care.

OP posts:
pendulum · 29/03/2008 21:26

Gosh didn't know that fingerwoman. Always thought that formula must leave quite a big dent in some families' food budget.

fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:27

I could be completely wrong bb99, but i think that is the case from what I heard my little cousin saying about it, and from something I overheard 2 ppl talking about in mothercare

Phatmouse · 29/03/2008 21:29

I didn't think the swear word would come up (thought it would be blocked) but the sentiment is the same. How many threads are needed on the same subject. You all think there should be more money/resources to help women breastfeed,

'no ones saying women shouldn't have a choice'

'i'm sure it was heartbreaking that you couldn't breast feed your child for medical reasons'

'i'm sorry to hear about your awful experiance'

all i'm saying is give it a rest and get on with feeding your kids they way you want to instead of educating the rest of us.

Don't know if it's still the case fingerwoman, but 10+ years ago, when I was a lone parent with a baby, you got tokens that could be cashed in for either cows milk or formula

OP posts:
fingerwoman · 29/03/2008 21:31

well that's easy for you to say phatmouse, as an informed woman

unfortunately not all women have access to the internet. Not all women are confident in their choice. Not all women know all the facts about both breastfeeding and formula feeding.

and they have a right to be able to make an informed decision. so it IS important that things change.

if you don't like that then I think that's a bit sad tbh

Flight · 29/03/2008 21:31

Just as an aside, we get the free tokens, but there is no way we can use them unless we do formula.
They come in values of £2.77, and unless you use 8 pints of milk within about 3 days you can't buy that much at once or it just goes off.
My tokens are just going in the recycling atm which is a shame as we could use the help. Just in smaller amounts iyswim.

Divastrop · 29/03/2008 21:31

if bf were the norm then slogans wouldnt be needed, but its not going to happen in this society which sees breasts as sex toys for men.

how about a slogan aimed at men, such as 'breastfeeding.what boobs were made for.'with a picture of an attrctive,semi-naked woman breastfeeding a baby?

beansontoast · 29/03/2008 21:32

suck it and see

dont believe the hype (..about formula)

do the right thing (if you can)

the only way is up (my jumper)

im every woman ...it's all in me

disclaimer: im a twat
