Is the GMTV breastfeeding piece going to be shown on Wednesday?

I had heard a rumour it was, but it isn't in their "what's on" listings.

However, I did find this on their website today, which seems to be a little more balanced in terms of debate. Perhaps it is hoping to do the piece without warning us [cloak and dagger emoticon]

Dr Hillary's comments will make you want to flick his silly head though.

You have been warned.

She was fab. I've always thought dr jones was a nice doctor. I was wrong. He is an arse. My mouth was nearly on the floor as he was talking.

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/02/2008 09:14

Can we invite her to be a mumsnetter?!

runnyhabbit · 06/02/2008 09:14

wonder if Jenny is on MN?

runnyhabbit · 06/02/2008 09:15

x-post lol

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:15

Damn, I missed it!

constancereader · 06/02/2008 09:15

Glad to hear it went well.

Am bloody annoyed he said bitty though.

kiskidee · 06/02/2008 09:15

dh has recorded it for me as i am at work. v. keen to see it.

JodieG1 · 06/02/2008 09:17

I watched this too. Can't believe how ill informed Dr Hillary is! So bf over 1 year is bizarre? Why would anybody think that?!! I'm still feeding ds2 (13 months almost) and I'm most certainly not bizarre or unusual.

She really got the point over well though and didn't sound extreme or eccentric at all. I wondered if he'd mention the average world weaning age, glad she did though.

That dr is why people think extended bf is weird, the average person listens and believes in what health professionals say so they automatically think it's odd and only for the woman's benefit. If more drs stood up and said bf does has many benefits for older babies/children it would become more accepted.

runnyhabbit · 06/02/2008 09:19

It would've been so good if it had a been "positive" bf story, instead of GMTV trying to turn it into something bizarre

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:20

From GMTV site (sorry if it has alrady been posted)

Dr Hilary added: "Women breastfeed their children for longer for a variety of reasons. It can be to avoid renewing sexual relations with their partners, it's easier for some mothers to just give in to the child while other mothers prefer to pretend their grown up child is still a baby."

EdieMcredie · 06/02/2008 09:24

That woman was so good. LOVED the way she laughed at HJ when he went on about her sexual relations with husband/partner.

He looked really stupid! HA HA.

PortAndLemon · 06/02/2008 09:24

Posted, picked apart, stomped on and the pieces ritually burned, Bumperlicious. But there's always room for doing it again when what's been spouted is quite that pathetic...

BabiesEverywhere · 06/02/2008 09:30

Maybe Jenny will see this post and join us

AdamAnt · 06/02/2008 09:32

I literally looked like this when I read Dr Hillary's comments. (Well OK, less yellow and bald). He's lost it.

I'm joining the Pillory Hillary brigade.

kiskidee · 06/02/2008 09:32

BE, she posts on the chatabm. the yahoo group for the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers.

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:34

What an idiot! Obviously mothers are force-breastfeeding their babies, they get nothing from it. No comfort, no nutrition, no security, no calming hormones.

And for anyone who says babies don't need BM, well I didn't need the fricking bar of dairy milk I ate last night, but I ate it, and it made me happy!

BabiesEverywhere · 06/02/2008 09:35

kiskidee, Is she a trained counsellor for the ABM ? She sounded very confident and well read.

JodieG1 · 06/02/2008 09:35

Grown up child? So is he trying to suggest that 1 year olds, or even 2,3 or 4 years olds, are grown up?

thritbies · 06/02/2008 09:37

Didn't see this but reading the piece on their site and hearing about it has made me want to weep. What is wrong with the man?

Particularly "he would discourage women from breastfeeding after a year"...wtf? WHY??? and and [deflated](no pun intended)

harpsichordcarrier · 06/02/2008 09:37

i am not reading that website
do NOT let me!

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 09:39

It makes me very sad.

Fortunately I start my breastfeeding group peer supporter training today so I can do my little bit to help!

kiskidee · 06/02/2008 09:39

she isn't a trained counsellor afaik. She read up loads before going to london for the recording, got helpful emails from others who had dealt with the media and rather excitingly beforehand was in touch with a well known bf advocates we all know of. I don't want to steal her thunder but I am so proud of her.

tiktok · 06/02/2008 09:41

This came across as a really good positive boost for mothers breastfeeding their kids for as long as they flippin well want to.....

And Dr Hilary is a tosser.

PortAndLemon · 06/02/2008 09:43

Can you tell her that she has a big fan club here, kiskidee? She could probably send out autographs...

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2008 09:44

I hated the "When are you going to stop? Because you will have to stop" question
Give me a deadline!!
