Is the GMTV breastfeeding piece going to be shown on Wednesday?

I had heard a rumour it was, but it isn't in their "what's on" listings.

However, I did find this on their website today, which seems to be a little more balanced in terms of debate. Perhaps it is hoping to do the piece without warning us [cloak and dagger emoticon]

Dr Hillary's comments will make you want to flick his silly head though.

You have been warned.

Dr Hilary sounded pathetic he really did. I used to like him.
And being a breastfeeder doesn't stop me having sex...good grief what's he talking about?

harpsichordcarrier · 06/02/2008 10:24

"any other questions?"
pmsl

BabiesEverywhere · 06/02/2008 10:24

This is what I emailed to them:

"Hello

I would like to complain about the comments made by 'Dr' Hillary on today's programme and the comments on the website.

If there was no value in feeding babies beyond the age of a year how can he explain the fact that that most babies, if left to wean themselves, will do so between the age of 2 and 4? And the rubbish about babies getting nothing from it? What does he think happens to breast milk after a year? Even if it turned to water (which it doesn't) babies still need water. If we only ate and drank things that were absolutely necessary the junk food and alcohol would be turned on it's head. I bet my baby gets as much pleasure from her breast feeds as Dr Hillary does from his last bar of chocolate, or packets of crisps or similar.

I cannot believe a health professional such as Dr Hillary would promote such views when the breast feeding rates in this country are as bad as they are. Breastfeeding is hard enough as it is without having to request permission to carry on from people such a Dr Hillary. And until he grows a uterus I would request that he refrains from stating how I or any other mother feels towards their baby.

I can only hope that you take notice of my view and the views that will no doubt be expressed from many other mothers dedicated to the well being and security of their children."

harpsichordcarrier · 06/02/2008 10:25

honestly, you have to laugh otherwise you would cry
these people have the vote fgs
(babieseverywhere I do not have your calm and patience and courtesy, as you can see)

Bouncingturtle · 06/02/2008 10:39

I missed it, but read the link to the opinion.
I used the form at the bottom to complain about what an ignorant twat (phrased more politely than that!) Hillary is.
Now my turn to show my ignorance - could someone explain bitty to me? I gather it's bad, but not sure why!
TIA

Bouncingturtle -- see here.

(it's a recurring series of sketches on Little Britain)

Bouncingturtle · 06/02/2008 10:46

Not really a Little Britain fan.
but
No wonder everyone is up in arms about Hillary's comment - absolutely shocking
And my email also failed to deliver as well

PMD, Maybe your rebounding email shows their email account are filled with complaints about the breastfeeding article

I have managed to post a few links on the GMTV page, including Hunker's blog. Hopefully that can redirect any mother to help if they need it

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2008 11:22

someone on why she weaned her child "I thought I would reclaim my breasts and hand them back to my husband."
So did he wear chicken fillets while the baby was being bf?

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2008 11:22

motherhurdicure press the buttons on the front

nickytwotimes · 06/02/2008 11:23

I have just looked at this thread and am shocked by Dr H's comments. He should be ashamed of himself. I was an unsuccessful bfer abd wouldn't have done extended bf ing myself, but even i know it has benefits and is a matter of personal choice. For a medical professional to say what he has said is appalling

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2008 11:25

am tempted to email him with a bf problem, see what he has to say and then expose his lack of knowledge somehow. Does he have medical training, or is he a "doctor" on gmtv only?

StealthPolarBear · 06/02/2008 11:26

oh yes my gmtv comments failed as well

BumperliciousIsOneHotMother · 06/02/2008 11:27

Mine has been bounced back too

My husband? So that's where I misplaced my breasts before I had DD, I was looking for them everywhere!

BabiesEverywhere · 06/02/2008 11:31

I sent a comment successfully just after the article finished on TV, so they are getting them.

MissMalaprop · 06/02/2008 11:39

What I want to know is this:

What precisely do people think the mothers get out of breast-feeding? You always hear this "Oh it's just for the mother's benefit" crap, but no one ever actually elaborates on what particular benefit there is to the mother.

I mean I do know that breastfeeding is a wonderful thing to be able to do for your child, and that is has all sorts of rewards for mother and baby in terms of health etc., but somehow I don't think that's what the nay-sayers mean. So what, do they think it's a sexual thing or something?

I am racking my brains and really can't think of anything that the mother could be getting out of extended breastfeeding that she wouldn't get from "normal" breastfeeding (ugh - I don't mean that ex. bf is not normal, but you know what I mean, difficult to phrase that)

I've had some odd looks when I've been bfing ds in public. He is only 7 months, but is huge, so looks about a year. Then again I've had some really positive comments. A lovely lady came and sat next to me in a cafe the other day and told me what a wonderful job I was doing and how good it was that I was giving ds the best food available! I nearly cried!

There are some sane people out there...unfortunately there is also a large number of wankers!
