Is the GMTV breastfeeding piece going to be shown on Wednesday?

I had heard a rumour it was, but it isn't in their "what's on" listings.

However, I did find this on their website today, which seems to be a little more balanced in terms of debate. Perhaps it is hoping to do the piece without warning us [cloak and dagger emoticon]

Dr Hillary's comments will make you want to flick his silly head though.

You have been warned.

Ahh, yes, my expressive face, I'm told my eyebrows can almost speak for themselves!LOL! There is more than one way to say what you think, and it doesn't always have to be verbal does it.....?

BE; yes, Milly did nurse right through my pregnancy, I reduced it down to two or three times a day as my nipples were very sensitive/sore, but she was thrilled when my colostrum came in and she got a "proper drin" again. She boobed loads once Phoebe was born, asking almost every time I sat down to nurse Phoebe, and I went along with it for the first week or so then gentley began to distract her or refuse until she was down to three or four times a day again. Bear in muind she was 2yrs 10 mths when Phoebe was born so easily old enough to understand basic reasoning. I have some fabulous photos of this time, including one very beautiful, but highly personal, one of the first time they nursed in tandem when Phoebe was only a few hours old (She was born at home), make sure you get plenty of picures like htis taken, even if you never show them to anyone else, they are wonderful to look back on just for yourself or for your children when they are older. This on is one of my favourites (there are no nipples!!) i33.photobucket.com/albums/d85/jehefinner/handsfull.jpg

That's beautiful, GM. But rather suggests that tandem feeding is greatly facilitated by a HUGE sofa...

harpsichordcarrier · 08/02/2008 19:52

hello clever lady! welcome to mumsnet and WOW what a great job you did.
I am a weirdy tandem feeder too and so much of what you said on the programme and on here is so familiar - especially the part about reducing sibling rivalry.
my dd1 was 2.5 when her sister was born and her word for feeding was "more" - her greatest ambition was to have "more altogedder" which was fine as long as I didn't look down or think about it too much
oh and devil's advocate my arse - I am somewhat sceptical

BabiesEverywhere · 08/02/2008 20:02

Thanks for that If we do end up tandem feeding, I'll remember to take some pictures

GreenMonkies · 08/02/2008 20:05

"That's beautiful, GM. But rather suggests that tandem feeding is greatly facilitated by a HUGE sofa... "

Actually it's just a standard two seater!

workstostaysane · 08/02/2008 20:28

greenmonkies, i salute your calm and poise and general utter FABULOUSNESS!!!!!!!
i'm interested you say you think dr h didn;t necessarily agree with all he was saying - i thought he looked mighty uncomfortable. rather like he wished he was on the cool girl's team.

only watched the vid posted on MN. am soooooo glad we don't have a telly as i would have smashed it listening to him.

lots of respect and thanks from a home educating, lentil weaving, sandal wearing hippy home birther.

xxxx

FairyMum · 08/02/2008 20:33

just watched the clip. loving it!

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2008 20:54

I meant to ask, did they say anything about the poll that you heard? Wondering if they mentioned (maybe not to you but in your earshot) why it wasn't mentioned on the programme?
Lovely picture! Very cute girls (well I can only see the back of P's head, but that looks cute as well!)

misdee · 08/02/2008 20:54

well don greenomkies, dr H looked like a wazzock spouting all that nonsense.

i breastfed my youngest dd to past age 2. and oh the comments. and when people find out now that i fed her past 2 i get 'ewww' comments. i point out, that i sdidnt just one day pick up a 2 year old and start feeding her, it was a progression. we only stopped as i was finding it hard by then as had a lot going on.

would i do it again? yes, like a shot. if i have any more children then i would do 'extended' breastfeeding all over again.

B1977 · 08/02/2008 21:01

Good grief! I never liked Dr H anyway. I am still bf a 16 month old and never for a moment considered it to be "extended"! Actually recently it was a bloody good thing I was as he had norovirus and was vomiting at least 3 times a day and not eating anything so if I hadn't been bf he would have been in hospital on a drip and probably spreading the evil virus to others costing the NHS a great deal, just like "Dr" Hilary's advice! TW*T

GreenMonkies · 08/02/2008 21:42

Hmm, how much Dr H actually believed and how much was him being devils advocate, that's not for me to say!! I'm sure a bunch of intelligent, educated ladies like you can make up your own mind!!

The Poll was never mentioned, but I suspect that they knew it had been "hijacked" (as my sister put it) by the bf boards. It's not difficult to do a google search and see what is going on "on the net" and ultimately if it doesn't give them the results they wanted/were expecting then they won't use it. Or perhaps they saw how in favour of "extended" (or natural term) bf the general public actually was and that's what made them persevere and do the feature....... who knows?

chipmonkey · 08/02/2008 21:45

GM, kicking myself that I didn't see the programme but by all accounts you were fabulous. Have you always been a MNer, have you namechanged?
Stealth, the "hunk" in hunkermunker refers to her gorgeous boys who are beautiful enough now but when they are grown up will be known as "The Hunks of Munker" They will be fighting the women off in the street!

GreenMonkies · 08/02/2008 22:02

Chipmonkey, I am new, I just popped by to say thanks for the wonderful responses I'd read on the board.

You can see the full 7 minute interview here www.veoh.com/videos/v3897204PNFgG2Q9

Enjoy!

aurorec · 08/02/2008 22:04

Such a lovely picture, thanks for sharing!
To all you tandem feeders- HUGE congrats [you're the woman smiley]. I had such a tough time when I started nursing, I could not imagine having nursed 2 at a time....

And people NEVER talk about tandem feeding. See, I didn't even know that the colostrum came back for the newborn- I guess it's obvious, I should have thought of it, our bodies are really amazing things.

chipmonkey · 08/02/2008 22:32

GreenMonkies, just watched it! Well Done YOU!! You were absolutely brilliant, especially when you were able to counter his arguments with hard facts that were clearly new to him! Hope you stay on Mumsnet!

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2008 22:41

aurorec, before MN I didn't know you could tandem feed. In fact I didn't give it much thought but looking back I think I assumed everyone stopped at 6 months! Shows what I knew, just glad I found MN before DS was born.
Thanks for explaining hunkermunker's name chipmonkey

kiskidee · 09/02/2008 08:22

Welcome to MN Greenmonkies!! Was hoping we would see you here.

I wanted to say ages ago but life has been getting in the way.

LK really got my goat when she stated that because some people in the non-Western world didn't have access to good 'grub' therefore that way bf past 2 yo made sense.

AAARGGGGHHHH!!!!

hunkermunker · 09/02/2008 10:12

PMSL at "The Hunks of Munker" - Chipmonkey, you norty thing

It's Hunca Munca spelt wrong, SPB (just realised how much I love your name - there's nowt stealth about a PB, is there?!)

But Chipmonkey's right, I do have two gorgeous boys

Greenmonkies - I love that pic of you and the DDs - just gorgeous! Can you email me on info at howbreastfeedingworks dot com please?

Tatties · 09/02/2008 16:53

Ooh Kiskidee that bugged me too!

GreenMonkies welcome You were fantastic! (Has anyone said that yet? )
And your picture is beautiful, your girls look blissfully content

hercules1 · 09/02/2008 17:07

Just watched it too. Well done, Greenmonkies! Hurrah for you! I bf my two, one to 3 the other to 4. Dr Hilary really showed himself up there by his ignorance on the subject. You would have thought he would have researched it first.

GreenMonkies · 09/02/2008 20:07

I'll try and pop in now and then, I work three days a week and moderate another forum, as well as flitting between a couple of others, I shouldn't really spend any more time on the computer but you know how it is.....

aurorec · 09/02/2008 20:22

Are you allowed to mention what forum you moderate?

GreenMonkies · 09/02/2008 20:26

We used to be the Militant Breastfeeding Cult, but the server crashed and we can't resurect it, so we reincarnated it as mamasmilkmafia.ipbfree.com/ can you see a strong pattern emerging here??

aurorec · 09/02/2008 20:38

TinkerbellesMum · 09/02/2008 23:14

BabiesEverywhere, I thought I recognised the name on the GMTV forum, well done for the comments (I haven't read it since Thursday, wasn't sure I could cope with anymore) I didn't want to post because it seemed pointless, everything is being turned around and I think there are some pretty pig headed people there.

GM, you were great, your face when he mentioned sex life was a picture! I watched it through a second time and was LOL as I was able to appreciate things like that the second time around.

I have written a complaint to GMTV which I've posted a copy of on the Facebook group "Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!(Official petition to Facebook)" mainly over Dr Hilary's comments on the website. I'm sure he realised how bad his comments were because he never said them on air to GM's face!
