Hipp Organic New Recipe

Just wondered if anyone's baby who is on Hipp Organic has started on the new recipe boxes yet?

My lo will no longer take this milk, the new recipe smells and tastes horrendous compared to before and we are now waking up during the night and screaming through bottles.

I think we are going to have to move formulas, I've tried to persevere with it for a few days to see if he gets used to the taste but he's having none of it!

I've only just started to see the new recipe boxes in the larger supermarket so I'm not sure how many people will have moved onto it yet but interested to see if anyone else has had the same issue!

Hi no advice but I've been looking at reviews for Hipp organic as was thinking of switching my 3 week old to it but saw since its had a Change of ingredients (I know all formulas have to have the same stuff in) that people have been saying it's not as good anymore which is a shame as it used to be one of the most popular ones, now I'm thinking to not bother switching at all

bookish83 · 16/04/2020 16:41

Please could you tell me how I would know? We are new to the powder and have a few boxes (combi feeding a newborn) previously using the ready made HIPP

The only thing I noticed was that it smells fishier than the pre mades but have no idea which recipe I would be using!

Thanks x

Maxamill · 16/04/2020 17:05

The new ones have a pink circle on the front saying 'new recipe'

It's so frustrating as my lo hasn't reacted well to other formulas and we finally settled on Hipp which has been great up until this new recipe change!

The old Hipp smells sweet and almost creamy, the new Hipp smells fishy and stale. I've emailed them but they've said they haven't had any other complaints so far and they've tested the new formula and have concluded the taste change is minor - they obviously didn't test this with any actual human as it's SO obvious 🤣

I'm not sure what to try now, Cow and Gate and Aptimal causes digestive issues so reluctant to go back to either of those

Thank you... i should have looked at the milk before asking a daft question!

The box im using now says new recipe on but the other ones I have don't. Answers why I was horrified at the smell!

I think I will contact as it smelled so bad I considered switching altogether and we had been really getting on with HIPP.

Try the co-op or buying from the HIPP website in case they have the older stock in xx

dementedpixie · 16/04/2020 18:53

The issue is that new regulations came in about what infant formula has to contain so all of them now need to have DHA in them which seems to be derived from fish. Might explain the fishy smell

Maxamill · 16/04/2020 21:46

The smell really is bad isn't it! Glad it's not just me who thinks it, I'm going to try find some older recipe boxes! They only released the new recipe a few weeks ago so hopefully there will still be a lot of the old still in stock places!

I know they've had to change but Aptamil and C&G don't smell and taste like this and they changed theirs a little bit ago. It's so bad 🙈 x

They all have to contain more dha (fish oil) now HiPP used to use non fish dha/aa from algal / single cell oils.

Kendamil organic I think is one that doesn’t contain fish and I’m not sure but holle also might not contain fish

Maxamill · 16/04/2020 22:29

Thank you! I don't understand why they've had to change to the fish DHA if it they were able to extract DHA from other sources 🤷🏽‍♀️
I have actually just found out about Kendamil earlier and have ordered a tub to try it out, never heard of it before!? Hopefully that will taste better and not cause any digestion issues for us 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I was thinking to change to Hipp Organic as my DS seems unsettled on aptamil1. Has anyone noticed a difference in digesting the new recipe hipp organic?

Such a pain they’ve changed it after you’ve finally found one that suited your DC!

Maxamill · 17/04/2020 15:50

We had digestion problems with Aptamil which is why we changed to Hipp in the first place. The new recipe hasn't given bad digestion problems like Aptamil but I cannot get my baby to drink it properly and he was awake all night and so unhappy.

You could try your baby on it and see how they go but the taste might be an issue for you as well. Maybe try see if you can get a pre made bottle of the new recipe to try first?

Interesting, my five month old is on Hipp and I didn't know about the new recipe. I've just checked and the box we are currently using is the new recipe but I have two boxes in the cupboard and they are the old ones. I've just smelled it and it does smell like fish! I hadn't noticed before though.

Weirdly I said to DH this morning that she was actually eating a bit more this week. She's not by any means a hungry baby and has never had more than 5oz in a bottle and rarely finishes it, but she's drained a few bottles in the last few days. So she doesn't seem too fussed.

mistermagpie · 17/04/2020 16:10

Just thinking - we switched from aptamil because she was constipated and the constipation seems to have returned...

bookish83 · 17/04/2020 16:17

We also switched from aptimel due to griping baby. Wasn't constipated but looked uncomfortable especially in evening.

Its hard to tell about the new recipe as ae give 1-2 bottles a day as a bf the rest. When he was on more formula we used ready made bottles of what would be the old recipe.

I would consider switching to kendimel when we get to stage 2 milk if the HIPP stage 2 smells the same as I have a spit up baby so the smell is really bad x

Maxamill · 17/04/2020 18:35

My little one was the same, constipation and digestion pains on aptamil. It must be the fish oil that causes it!

OP posts:
Twiglet2353 · 19/04/2020 21:33

We also switched from Aptamil to Hipp due to terrible colic and griping. I have two boxes in - one old recipe and one new recipe.
Slightly nervous as my baby (5mo) has bottle aversion and will only take 2-5oz at a time and it will take an hour with lots of tears. Concerned that adding a new tasting formula to the mix might worsen things....

Maxamill · 19/04/2020 21:52

They say some babies don't notice it so you might be ok 🤞🏼

Just with how long it took us to settle on a milk that my dc enjoyed and thrives on it's just really upsetting that now there's a new recipe he will no longer take. I persevered with it as well, we did nearly a full box but he definitely is never going to take to it.

Also as a PP asked, I now do think if he had taken to the new recipe he would of had bad digestion again like he did with aptamil. He didn't get constipated straight away on the new but his nappies had just begun to change before we switched him back to the old recipe. I didn't click because it hadn't got bad but we've had a clear out nappy like we did when we first switched to Hipp and now he's sleeping through the night again!

OP posts:
mistermagpie · 19/04/2020 22:02

Well my 5mo has been on the new all week and is really really constipated. It's back to how she was on aptamil.

We do have two boxes of the old stuff in so I'm swapping back but I don't know what to do in the long term.

Maxamill · 19/04/2020 22:31

Really sorry to hear that Magpie 😔 it's so awful when they're constipated!

We are the same, we have some of the old recipe but obviously long term we're going to have to find something new. I have a delivery of the Kendamil milk coming tomorrow as a few people have recommended that and it doesn't contain fish oil, I'll let you know how my DS gets on with it, I'm hoping that will be fine and we can switch to that 🤞🏼

Twiglet2353 · 20/04/2020 00:51

Yes please do let us know re Kendamil. My babies poos have become a lot less frequent and often like khaki green plasticene. I see that the new recipe has been in circulation since March so I'm wondering if we've had new recipe boxes previous to our current one 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maxamill · 20/04/2020 12:17

I've just fed ds a bottle of Kendamil and he loved it! Fingers crossed it continues and he doesn't have any bad digestion from 🤞🏼

He also burped really well on it!

The only thing is as it's full fat milk the scoops and feed sizes are different so you have to do it in ml not in Oz, not an issue as bottles have both and it's clear on the packaging what they should be having but thought I'd share that info!

Will keep you updated how we get on! X

OP posts:
mistermagpie · 20/04/2020 21:55

Yes the green plasticine poos!

My baby finally pooed today, the first time since last Wednesday. I'd really like to hear how anyone gets on with Kendamil because I don't know what to try now. I can't leave her on the new hipp, she's been miserable this week and is usually such a sunny baby.

Maxamill · 20/04/2020 22:12

Not sure if you've seen my post above Magpie but I've had my ds on Kendamil all day and he has fed brilliantly, will keep you updated on tomorrow's nappies to see if it's digesting properly!

He's had a normal yellow nappy today but not sure if that's this or the old recipe Hipp!

OP posts:
mistermagpie · 20/04/2020 22:33

I've literally just been on and ordered some kendamil. Not sure how quickly it will come but I've got two boxes of old hipp to use. Fingers crossed it goes down well!

OnePotato2Potato · 24/04/2020 11:53

Hi @Maxamill @mistermagpie @Twiglet2353
Just wondering how you got on with the new Hipp Organic, did the constipation continue? Have you switched to the kendamil permanently now? Thanks
My baby is still on aptamil but I’m giving gripe water regularly to help with wind/gas but not sure whether to just change formula.

Maxamill · 24/04/2020 12:14

I never continued with the new recipe as my DS wouldn't take it so I can't help I'm afraid sorry! X
