Text (page 61):

Are you breast-feeding, Katie?

No, it's brilliant I have 20 crates of teats and bottles -- I don't have to sterilise or heat anything, you literally take the teat out of the pack, screw it on, throw it away. I don't care what people say - you don't have to breast-feed. They gave me a tablet that dries your milk up so my boobs haven't hurt or leaked or anything.

Peter: Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine.

So why did you decide not do breast-feed?

I don't want a baby drinking from me - the thought of it makes me feel really funny. I think only a certain person could handle my knockers.

Taking DS1 out to holiday club this morning and had radio 1 (forgive me please ) on, they did mention Jordan and OK in their report on it

LieselVentouse · 07/08/2007 11:47

get off the fence you lot

missbumpy · 07/08/2007 12:04

I did see something about Jordan in a mag (not sure if it was Reveal) Flibbertyjibbet. Is that the one where she's going on about how she's going to lose all the baby weight in a few weeks by living off celery juice or something ridiculous? Or is it the one about her having botox, another boob job, and vaginoplasty?

wotsits · 07/08/2007 12:17

Formula milk advertising is going to be discussed on R2 Jeremy Vine show today, in the next few minutes I think.

wolveschick · 07/08/2007 12:23

Erm....not pro Jordan or anything but surely she has freedom of choice re breast feeding. It is a personal decision what she does and she is entitled to her opinion and her reasons whether others agree with them or not. The product placement is a different issue. Incidentally she did say in article she had crates of the small glass bottles and teats (wonder who sent them???)

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/08/2007 12:43

No one on here has criticised her choice of ff. This thread is purely about the product placement and the fact that SMA seem to have supplied her with free infant formula in exchange for her being photographed using it.

rainbow83 · 07/08/2007 13:40

chocolatepeanut: who has any issue with formula feeding?

This is getting curioser & curiouser.

Theclosetpagan · 07/08/2007 13:50

No issue with FF - I bottlefed my DS and am very pro-choice but am very ANTI the sneaky and underhand way in which formula milk companies go about getting round the advertising code which they have signed up to. This is just a prime example.

As far as Jordan goes - good luck to her - it's her choice and nobody elses BUT this is blatant advertising and she is one very business savvy lady who influences alot of people. I would bet next month's wages that she was supplied with the crates and crates of these bottles (which are usually only available for hospital supply) in return for ensuring her baby was photographed with that bottle so advantageously placed. Plus - only a simpleton would believe SMA/Wyeth's official line that the advert for their follow on milk (which appeared opposite the photo of Jordan/KP feeding her baby) was a coincidence.

Difers · 07/08/2007 14:02

They mentioned the wider issue on the Today programme on radio 4 and apparently The Food Stanadards Agency are having a consultation on formula advertising. I am going to check out their website. The woman said that there had been a study which demonstrated that advertising does have an effect on whether babies are bottle fed or breastfed. I suspected it but was shocked to hear that there is actual evidence to support this. There is a link to the programme below.

lazyemma · 07/08/2007 14:03

"No one on here has criticised her choice of ff."

Really, flibbertigibbet? Let's have another look, shall we?

"i feel sorry for that little girl. imagine having jordan as a mother."

"I don't know that you can necessarily blame Jordan, she is hardly a rocket scientist and might not know that bottle feeding is inferior to breast feeding"

"not warming the milk, why not FFS she's a tiny newborn, are you that fucking lazy?"

"Nobody's picked up on Peter's comment that "Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine." Junior's about 2 or 3 - who know's if it may have any effect on his future health"

"imo it beggars belief that Jordan is considered any kind of newsworthy role model she comes across as vapid, selfish, insecure,so sensitised [sic] to her brand that she has lost the plot about her prioritires [sic] eg her family and baeutiful [sic] newbornm [sic] baby"

"silly bitch"

"on a serious note i do worry about her mental health and her low self esteem issues esp after the PND."

"stupid
fucking
bitch"

lazyemma · 07/08/2007 14:06

Breastfeeding/bottlefeeding is definitely a feminist issue, but not in the way I used to think - it seems nowadays, if you don't breastfeed, and don't publicly self-flagellate to the required degree because of it, you're fair game for the sort of insults so rife on this thread. Nice.

mm22bys · 07/08/2007 14:12

I am sitting here shaking my head. It is nothing but advertising. She has made bottle feeding sound so easy, and the way she got her milk dried up has made it sound she is not inconvenienced at all.

This is advertising, pure and simple, and they wouldn't have published something like this if they didn't know that it would influence new mums.

I too used to think she was "ok", but now I am disgusted.

What's even worse is that I use SMA and now will have to find another brand in protest (I tried a different one last week and it clogged up the teat).

Difers · 07/08/2007 14:16

Well I'm not really interested in Jordan bashing but I am pissed off with Formula companies ramming their products and plastic bottles down peoples throats, they are acting illegally and they talk crap, like on the Today Programme when some woman from Cow and Gate the other day was going on about the different stages and babies need first milk and follow on milk, bollocks, they need their mums milk. So here's another personwe can complain to.

Difers · 07/08/2007 14:17

They had someone on the today programme from Cow & Gate?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Difers · 07/08/2007 14:40

Yes, she talked crap!

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/08/2007 14:44

Point taken Lazymama!
I the thread is getting long so hadn't read all the posts in between when I come and go!

lissie · 07/08/2007 14:55

can i just say that i was the person who said imagine having jordan as a mother and i wasnt criticising her decision to ff i was saying (and i explained it in a later post) that it must be difficult having someone so high profile as a mother and living under that shadow. i would say the same about kate moss' daughter. i ff ds and am very pro-choice. BUT the pictures are blatent product placement and are breaking the law, that needs to be addressed.

"No one on here has criticised her choice of ff."

Really, flibbertigibbet? Let's have another look, shall we?

"i feel sorry for that little girl. imagine having jordan as a mother."

Not about her decision to ff.

"I don't know that you can necessarily blame Jordan, she is hardly a rocket scientist and might not know that bottle feeding is inferior to breast feeding"

Not criticising her decision to ff, more her intelligence.

"not warming the milk, why not FFS she's a tiny newborn, are you that fucking lazy?"

Criticising her decision not to warm the milk, not to ff in the first place.

"Nobody's picked up on Peter's comment that "Junior didn't breast-feed and he's turned out fine." Junior's about 2 or 3 - who know's if it may have any effect on his future health"

That's just true.

That's slating Jordan herself, not her decision to ff (and no need to put [sic] in quotes - yes, very clever, you can spell).

"silly bitch"

On what level is this criticising her decision to ff?

"on a serious note i do worry about her mental health and her low self esteem issues esp after the PND."

Ditto - how is this criticising her decision to ff?

"stupid
fucking
bitch"

And again - how does this criticise her decision to ff?

lazyemma · 07/08/2007 15:05

hunkermunker - I very much doubt everyone would be so personally vitriolic about her if the article had been about how she likes to dress her kids in Boden, for example, with a prominently displayed logo by the side. Of course this is all about her decision to formula feed, and crucially, to talk publicly about it. Let's not pretend we're playing nicey-nicey here.

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/08/2007 15:09

Its not against the law or advertising codes to advertise Boden.
Thats what this thread is about, her illegal advertising/promotion of a particular infant milk.

lazyemma · 07/08/2007 15:14

No, SMA have illegally promoted their infant milk. Reserve your vitriol for them. Jordan's only crime is to not be at all embarassed apologetic about the fact that she's formula feeding and her reasons why, and if people on this thread were honest about it, rather than couching their abuse in niceties, they'd admit that.

lazyemma · 07/08/2007 15:15

there should be an "or" between embarrassed and apologetic: I'm so annoyed I've stopped making sense!

lissie · 07/08/2007 15:16

no, her crime is helping SMA in their illegal promotion of their milk.

lissie · 07/08/2007 15:18

sorry meant "crime".
