Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

Writerwannabe83 · 01/10/2014 21:07

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

Oh no Writer. Really hope it all calms down quickly tonight.

We're going for a "mummy waits upstairs, baby gets drowsy with dad" approach tonight which worked a night or 2 ago. We shall see if it was a one off! She has fed 2-3 hourly today so FX its the same overnight! Did 3 big poo nappies in an hour, after just wees for several hours ... now that I don't want at 2 am! Grin

nyldn · 03/10/2014 20:37

sorry writer! I'm currently feeding with the hair dryer on because DS was screaming his head off...

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 20:52

Sorry writer Sad hope he's asleep soon

nyldn · 03/10/2014 21:15

so the hair dryer only worked for so long.... bouncing him on the yoga ball to calm him down and he started rooting. so bf'ing the yoga ball Confused

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 21:35

He fell back to sleep at 20.45pm. I still think he's feeling quite poorly so I'm expecting a night of lots of wake ups.

He's up again - third time in 3.5 hours Confused He is so, so snotty and keeps sneezing, poor thing. We have given him some Nurofen alongside his Calpol to try and help him feel well enough to sleep - he's absolutely shattered Sad

Cluster feeding again. So tired!! Baby is very happy just starving.

Cannotbelieveit · 04/10/2014 00:44

Up before I've even gone to bed myself! Fail ConfusedAngry

Will try both sides but I somehow doubt he will last til 7am!

I must start going to bed 10-11pm so I get a little stretch myself.

Sammyviv · 04/10/2014 01:53

Up for my first feed, got 3 hrs sleep, not bad.
Had another unsuccessful night with DP. DS just screams and screams when DP holds him. Poor DP, I've tried telling him how to hold him, ie he probably just wants cuddles and I've said talk to him and sing to him. DP says "I've done all of this!"
Has anyone got any suggestions? We are going to try some skin on skin in the morning

AuntieMaggie · 04/10/2014 03:33

Keep trying sammy your ds will get used to your dp soon and he'll find his own way of soothing him. I was in hospital for a week after birth and ds was fine with dp there ( in fact preferred his swaddling and stuff) but when we got home he went through a phase of screaming at dp but he's fine now .

AuntieMaggie · 04/10/2014 03:34

Oh and yes skin on skin worked and he used to lie on his chest.

cookielove · 04/10/2014 04:20

My baby is trying to kill me.

Bottle at 6
Bottle at 8
Bottle at 10
Bottle at 1
Bottle at 4
I have only had 2hrs sleep

Cannotbelieveit · 04/10/2014 05:03

Another feed Shock Tho 4 hours for his second stretch is good as usually it's 2-3hours for the second stretch max!

mrsmugoo · 04/10/2014 06:12

He woke full of beans at 5:50 this morning - ugh.

Have fed him and put him back in the cot in the vain hope he might drop back off for an hour.

mrsmugoo · 04/10/2014 06:36

He dropped off then my husband sneezed.

Confused
Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 07:12

Oh dear cookie - I hope you aren't too exhausted this morning Flowers

DS went 7.5 hours and has woken up very, very snotty. He has dry green snot all crusted around his nose Grin Me and DH keep sniffing and sneezing too so I think we are all a bit under the weather.

I can't remember if DS got up overnight, I think he did, but from about 6am he was up every ten mins wanting to suck so I ended up giving him to DP. Am really dreading my flight to Oz...

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 07:40

How old will he be when you go??

All up for the day at 8am so not too bad. Grin

squizita · 04/10/2014 10:07

Just finished the what feels like the world's longest cluster feed. Didn't even get her in her bed. I lay down to feed with her next to me eventually. I dropped off ... she carried on feeding!
She's still wide awake but not attached to my boob right this second.
I tell you what she better be growing with all this eating!

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 11:27

My poorly DS is lying across my chest (whilst I'm lying down) just suckling away and has been for 25 minutes. We gave him some calpol earlier and he slept for 1.5 hours and now I think he's just sucking for comfort. He feels ever so warm, bless him.

I've got him a nice treat when he wakes up as when I was in ASDA I saw a packet of the apple flavoured rice cakes that he likes so he can have some of those.

I'm kind of hoping that this cold has been brewing for a few days and making him feel pretty rough which is his sleep has been horrendous over the last few nights. With that logic I can hope that once he's better his sleep pattern will return to normal.

OP posts:
Sammyviv · 04/10/2014 11:31

Writer I hope DS is ok, I'm not looking forward to my first cold with my DS.
Lots of cuddles should do the trick x

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 11:38

His dad has got it too but he's got a nasty cough as well. The house is cursed with the lurgy and I'm just hoping I don't get it Hmm

He had his first cold when he was really young and it was horrible as he couldn't breathe properly because of how snot was clogging his little nostrils up, it was really upsetting for him and me. Now he's a lot older he can cope with it better as he can do powerful sneezes and the snot comes shooting out!!! It is very messy but at least I know he's clearing his own breathing passages. I don't think he's got an infection as the snot is really clear as opposed to green/yellow so hopefully it's just a nasty virus he's picked up Smile
