Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

The dogs are completely separated from the children, both in the home and in the garden. I don't know, something is just niggling at me.

writer - what breeds? I think that would matter to me.

Writerwannabe83 · 02/10/2014 20:51

Two poodles, two shnausers (don't know how to spell it) a Doberman and a bulldog.

Writer now I've read the thread I don't know, sounds like her set up is good and the safe for the dogs but like posters said who looks after the dogs all day?

Flingmoo · 02/10/2014 21:44

Hi all - thought I'd introduce myself, my 4mo EBF DS stopped middle-of-the-night feeds a couple of weeks ago since I did some very gentle sleep training - he still wakes up and cries for about 60 seconds and drifts off before I get the chance to check on him (in his own room). I feel a little guilty as he hasn't been gaining weight very quickly, but he didn't seem to be taking much at those feeds anyway....

Now he still has a small dream feed at 10-11ish and wakes for a big feed at 5am. It's a LOT better than before but I still find myself greedy for more sleep! Anyone else found they're still wishing for more sleep despite improvements?!

Cannotbelieveit · 02/10/2014 22:14

Welcome mam! We always want more sleep!

My problem is ds1 goes to bed at 7, DS now goes between 7-7.30 and I still stay up til midnight with DH!!

Writerwannabe83 · 02/10/2014 22:22

Hi Mam Grin

I will answer your question when I start to see any improvements Grin

Argh she's been hysterically crying when not on my boob since 7.30 pm. Looks like no sleep again. So worried this isn't just a phase!

Writerwannabe83 · 02/10/2014 22:45

Oh squiz - you have my sympathy. It's so, so difficult and emotionally draining but it does get better. When my DS was a newbie me and DH would go up to bed at about 7pm, cuddle up with each other and take our favourite drinks and snacks and embrace the cluster feeding. I would have DS permanently attached to my breast whilst we just relaxed in bed and watched DVD after DVD. It was still hard work and tiring but at least I was comfortable, in a peaceful and calm surrounding and snuggled up to DH. I can't remember when it ended but it did at some point and it will for you too. I understand why you would he worried about DS's health but she just wants to be close to you. Have you heard of the concept "The fourth trimester"? If not, google it and see if you can find any reassuring words Flowers

DS has just women for the secnd time since 9pm. It's not looking like it'll be a good night for me. Am gutted as I thought we'd sorted out his sleep the last couple of weeks and now it's back to square one :(

Cariad007 · 02/10/2014 22:49

Women? WOKEN! I swear autocorrect has gotten worse with iOS 8.

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 00:48

I'm up and feeding. I have a very bad feeling about tonight. Whereas DS is usually asleep by 7.30pm he didn't settle until almost 10pm and even then he was very fitful. Between the hours of 7.15pm-10pm he kept dropping off but waking within 20 minutes and crying and only being soothed by bring fed. When he finally dropped off at 10pm I was so relieved and thought he'd go through until morning seeing as he'd had such a bad night last night and hardly any sleep during the day. Yet here I am, 2.5 hours later trying to soothe a very upset DS who is refusing to feed Confused

1.5 hours of being awake he is still grizzling and crying. Refusing to be out down but fighting me when I pick him up. Still refusing to feed. I'm so tired and so is he, I just don't understand why he won't sleep.

In the last 24 hour period he hasn't even had 10 hours sleep.

Sorry writer Shock

DS managed 7 hours, he's just on second side now so shall see if that'll do him til morning, hope so!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 02:59

He finally fell asleep 2.5 hours after waking up. I've had no sleep since 08.00 this morning - well, yesterday morning Sad

He's in his cot but is he is wriggling around and whimpering so I'm not feeling hopeful.

Spoke too soon - he's awake again. I can't cope with this much longer Sad

Hey writer how's it going? Any sleep for u yet?
I had the worse day with DS today and had a few tears nyself, just the lack if sleep getting to me. DP had him for an hour earlier while I tried to get some sleep but he screamed the place down, poor DP.
Just got him to sleep again I'll attempt to put him down

Sammyviv · 03/10/2014 03:15

Hey writer do you have a sling? Just find if I take DS out in one he falls asleep. I either walk around the house or go out with him

squizita · 03/10/2014 03:27

The frenzy ended about 11.30. She's just re awakening now. FX she just wants a straight forward feed!
