Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

Didiimaginethis. Welcome!! You are in the right place. I find it difficult to judge when my ds has wnd as sometimes he is very agitated and lifts his legs even if it's not wind. That said, Infacol and gripe water are recommended for wind. I tried Infacol and it did work but thankfully for me the older ds gets the easier it is to wind him. I was rubbish (DH was much better at winding so he got that job!)

Ds also did sick ups in the early weeks (it is called posseting apparently) and th noises he makes are so loud! Like a little piglet. I like the noises though. Very reassuring at night.

AuntieMaggie · 30/10/2014 19:58

splendide the nights are the worst and I used to dread them too (still do sometimes)... I used to sit in the chair in our room feeding/cuddling ds and watching the various goings on in the windows of the flats I could see into or reading my kindle and then get really depressed cos it would start to get light at about 3:30/4am.

Welcome didiimaginethis

olivia ds has stopped those noises now and either snores or is really quiet Hmm

didiimaginethis · 30/10/2014 23:50

DS awake now for his first feed of night after going down at 9.00. Wish I knew this was only the first of two.....more likely three or four!

OliviaRinHerts · 31/10/2014 02:19

I'm up for the first and hopefully only feed of the night... Great progress has been made though as he settles so quickly now on his Own after the feeds so I can get back to sleepShock

Hope everyone's nights haven't been too bad so far.... At least it is Friday!

OliviaRinHerts · 31/10/2014 03:08

Arghhhhh!

I can't sleep despite ds being fast asleep!!! How annoying is that!?

didiimaginethis · 31/10/2014 03:51

I'm on wake up/feed number 3....sigh. He just can't stay asleep in his basket, on me he can of c outse

didiimaginethis · 31/10/2014 04:21

Still awake, doesn't want book, really fussy arggghhhhh

didiimaginethis · 31/10/2014 04:29

Doesn't want boob!

AuntieMaggie · 31/10/2014 05:14

I had a good night last night... just a shame it started about 6! He slept for about 6.5 hours then went back to sleep for another 3.5 after his feed so now I'm up for the day and have been awake since 4.30

OliviaRinHerts · 31/10/2014 07:48

Auntiemaggie - sorry you had such an early start. Will you be able to nap? I find it difficult to do but it will help. Will DP/DH be around at the weekend to help?

Didiiimaginethis

Keep trying to put him back in his own crib when you think he is fast enough sleep. Eventually he will settle. You could Try patting/sshing him whilst he is in there. You may have to get him out a few times if he won't settle but he will eventually. He will stay sleep and be too exhausted to grizzle and cry. He will then gradually get used to his own bed. I also read that if you express some milk on his sheets or sleep with his blanket he will feel comforted by your smell when he is in his own bed. I think that trick worked for us

Gonna try and get an hour more sleep. I don't have other children at home so I'm lucky I can do that!

didiimaginethis · 31/10/2014 08:41

Thanks Olivia I know I need to keep persevering, just so hard when knackered.
I took him into bed with me and we managed 5-7 asleep before DS1 woke up needing the potty!

AuntieMaggie · 31/10/2014 16:41

ds managed a rare 2 hour nap in his crib this morning so I managed to get some more sleep - yay... hoping this is the start of him napping in there during the day

didiimaginethis · 01/11/2014 08:42

Lots of wake ups last night too but I managed to get him back in his crib after each one, I put my old t shirt on his mattress which had milk on it!
Part of the multiple wake ups I think is he is hungry but also tired so falls asleep quickly on boob.....then wakes up 30 mins later hungry again!

OliviaRinHerts · 01/11/2014 09:53

Unbelieveable!!

Ds struggled to stay awake past 7pm last night. He sleeps in a reclining bouncer thing downstairs in the evening so DH can spend time with him. We put him in his Moses basket in his cot bed last night (new thing to get him used to a new room and his cot bed as he is starting to get too big for the Moses basket) at 10pm and although he woke up a few times as his dummy had fallen out, he didn't properly wake for a feed until 6am this morning. I had 8 hours of pretty good sleep. I'm in shock-

Hope everyone had good nights!

AuntieMaggie · 04/11/2014 19:03

quiet here...

OliviaRinHerts · 04/11/2014 22:41

Hopefully that means everyone is ok.... Or too busy/stressed to post?!

Ds has been poorly. I am so naive... It was a shock and scary when he got a cold but why I don't know. It's fairly common but I spent the past few nights scared in case he couldn't breathe... Today was a better day (he was asleep mostly meaning I could get the ironing done and also that his little body was fighting the cold )

AuntieMaggie · 05/11/2014 02:04

olivia I was the same when ds got his first cold - I put some snuffle baby on his chest, a saline spray up his nose and gave him calpol to keep his temperature down. hope he's better soon.

OliviaRinHerts · 05/11/2014 06:05

Auntie Maggie

I've done the capol and saline and will check out snufflebaby. That's the great thing about mumsnet- all the tips. Thanks!

How was your night? Hopefully just the one wake up?

lucidlady · 05/11/2014 07:50

It's so quiet here now - is everyone on the Facebook group instead?

cookielove · 06/11/2014 06:08

Yes they are lucid
