Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

Writerwannabe83 · 01/10/2014 21:07

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

squizita blimey how are you coping??

writer I managed to get ds to sleep at 5 Shock and he woke up at 7 so I got a little bit more sleep. He is struggling with burping so I am debating trying comfort milk. He has had infacol and gripe in the past!

Dh is away so I am at my parents house napping :)

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 12:58

I love going to stay with my mom when DH is away!!! I hand DS over to her and then take myself back to bed!!! It's heavenly Grin

DS must be feeling poorly as despite having a 7.5 hour sleep overnight he's now been asleep for another 4 hours!!!!

squizita · 04/10/2014 13:27

Yesssss she has flaked out! Booo it's on my knee and i dare not move! Grin
4 big poo nappies in 6 hr, 3 heavy wee ones. She wasn't just sucking for comfort eh???

squizita · 04/10/2014 14:22

Oh god I just tried to give her to DH as she's been on me since 9 pm last night and she's screaming.
Nappies are fine. It's literally just feeding round the clock how long can this last per burst? ???

Cannotbelieveit · 04/10/2014 14:46

How old is she again squizita? Might be growth spurt as there are lots in the first month or so

AuntieMaggie · 04/10/2014 15:16

writer ds has been left with a nasty sounding cough after his cold last week which we are all sharing! The snot sucker and saline spray have been a godsend. I think we're approaching 4 hours for ds's nap on my lap - he woke up slightly for a quick feed and dropped off again.

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 15:43

Oh dear Maggie, I hope he feels a bit better when he wakes up. DS is currently rolling around on his floor mats and I'm hoping he will drop off. He looks really tired again but starts whining and grizzling if I pick him up.

I'm just chilling on the sofa watching 'About a Boy' - great film!!!!

2 weeks. We just managed a nap with mummy of 90 min with a light feed each end. Mummy napped too as she was next to me not on me thankfully!

Writerwannabe83 · 04/10/2014 17:10

I hope you're drinking lots of water Smile

DS has just woken up from a 50 minute cat-nap and is back to rolling around on his play mats. I'm just about to express some milk as I bought him a new beaker yesterday and I want to try it out Grin

I'm doing the bedtime feed now. He has perked up quite a bit this evening and we've just been playing in the bath together. I don't know how tonight will go considering how much sleep he's had today but fingers crossed that it will be an ok-ish night!!

DS has been asleep for 45 mins. Really hoping he's not up just after midnight like last night!

Slept 7.15pm-2am, not too bad. Gonna give both sides and hope that sees him through til the morning!

TeamEponine · 05/10/2014 03:22

Think I need to join this group! DD is nearly three weeks and totally wonderful, but somewhat challenging at nights. She is currently wide awake on my lap with a dummy in her mouth. Woke herself up doing a massive poo, so I had to change her, and now she thinks it is play time Hmm I just want both of us to sleep a bit tonight.

Sammyviv · 05/10/2014 05:08

Welcome teamepinone( I have a 3 week old DS)
Well we tried DP giving him a bottle (breast milk) about midnight, I still had to get up and help as DS started crying. But eventually took to the bottle and DP put him down (but a little too soon, as he wasn't in a deep deep sleep) I keep finding myself picking DS Up and putting him on my chest where I continue to fall asleep (he wriggles a bit, I think wind) but generally sleeps well, think I'm Gona cause my send grief if I keep doing this
Just doing a feed now but I think he wld of slept through if I hadn't woke him to change him

Cannotbelieveit · 05/10/2014 05:39

Welcome Team!!

DS feeding again. DH will take both boys and let me stay in bed for a bit when DS1 gets up Grin

Writerwannabe83 · 05/10/2014 06:26

Welcome Team - there's nothing worse than dying for sleep when baby is wide awake. I'm having that problem now Hmm

My DS is 6 months old and it always amazes me how on so little sleep he can be so full of life at ridiculous hours of the morning yet I feel exhausted!! He's spinning around in his cot now and singing to himself Hmm

He had a 3 hour stretch at the start of the night, then woke up for an hour and fell asleep in my bed. I kept him in with me and every couple of hours he's woken me up by grizzling/crying Sad I fed him at 05.40 and I so, so, so want him to go back to sleep but I think I'm kidding myself......

Sammyviv · 05/10/2014 08:50

Hmm DS won't let me put him down this morning he keeps falling asleep on me. DP Is off to play football this morning, I don't mind but I've not seen him all week. I can tell he feels guilty as he's offered to try and do more but what can he do when I'm breast feeding. We generally have a good relationship where we can talk but I don't know what I can say to him

Anyway question ladies if I go onto bottle feeding will DS regulate more into 3/4 hrly feeds ? What about when he has a growth spurt would I feed him more? I've just mastered breast but no one else can help me and I'm really starting to feel the pressure of that

There's plenty DPs can do even if you're breastfeeding Sammyviv - is there any housework or cooking to be done? He could fix you a snack, get you a drink, look after you a bit. Then once you're done feeding there's nappy changes, taking baby out for a walk to give you a little break, plenty!

Sammyviv · 05/10/2014 09:41

Thanks buggerlugs I just saw their number and thought about calling them.
Cariad - he was doing all that when he was off work but now he's back at work he leaves at 7am and gets home at 7pm he's been a bit slack with the chores to be honest so I her to ask him to step up. He does do all the nappy changes to be fair. It's just the middle of the night stuff, no one else can help Sad
He has been really good it's just he worked yesterday all day and had football today (he will be gone most of the day) I'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself today (these days are bound to come and go right?)

mrsmugoo · 05/10/2014 09:47

Hola from Spain! DS has been good as gold the entire time I'm sooooo relieved to not be "that parent" with the screaming baby on a flight!

He slept pretty well in his travel cot although woke up too early and I couldn't get him back to sleep so we're all a bit bleary eyed today. (And he had a 4am feed so his unbroken record of sleeping through the night is no more!)

squizita · 05/10/2014 10:09

Hi all.
Thankfully the constant feeding ceased about 11pm. She was on her usual every 2 hr after that. At 4am when I was SURE I stopped the Co sleep and popped her in her sleepy head. No tears!

Waits with baited breath for the next growth spurt

Writerwannabe83 · 05/10/2014 14:07

Glad you arrived without any trauma missmugoo and I hope you have a lovely time.

DS fell back asleep at just before 7am this morning and we both slept for another two hours.

We are now dealing yet again with the nightmare of him refusing to sleep in the day. He's exhausted but refuses to sleep despite trying everything I can think of. DH has now taken him for a walk because I'm getting seriously stressed over it!!
