Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

Writerwannabe83 · 01/10/2014 21:07

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

Writer Sad Hope he settles soon.

Just did a normal one side night feed. She is down in the sleepy head which I'm using as a co sleeper tonight. Only issue is I'm on the spare bed which isn't that firm and "scrunches" it slightly I'm sure so have used dvd covers to get it flat ... uncomfortable for me Grin not her!

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 06:39

So DS2 slept 7.15pm-2.15am, fed (both sides), back to sleep at 2.50am til 6.30am. He's just in his cot watching his mobile now. Will get up at 7! Definitely progress with only one feed! Wish I'd been offering both sides this whole time Shock

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 06:40

Welcome buggerlugs Grin

Sammyviv · 03/10/2014 07:28

Welcome buggerlugs
Cannot sounds like you had a good night Grin
Squizta oh your bed sounded comfy! So how's the sleep head would you recommend it? My friend brought round her lambs skin yesterday so I tried DS on it but he didn't appreciate it.
I have one of those dream sheep things, I've no idea how much it works but we have it on constantly and it's triggered by thier cries so goes off in the middle of the night, I find it quite soothing
I feel a whole heep better than I did yesterday

Cariad007 · 03/10/2014 08:20

DS must've been up about three times overnight. Sigh. He's slightly cold-y so am assuming that has something to do with it too. Apparently when babies are under the weather they want to nurse more.

Well done to everyone who had a good night and sympathies to Writer. Hope he settled eventually?

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 08:30

Morning all, DS finally settled at 03.15 (after crying, grizzling, feeding and screaming for 3 hours) and I'm soooo tired. He woke up at 8am and is wide awake, lying next to me kicking his legs, flapping his arms and singing to himself whereas I just want to hide under the quilt and sleep for 10 years Sad

The thing I find do disheartening is that because he doesn't nap I've got to entertain him and take responsibility for him for the entire day with no respite. I just miss having time to myself so much Sad

DS slept through again from 7:15-6:30. I woke up at 6:15 panicking that he wasn't breathing!

I got up at 2am for the loo but apart from that, last night was my first actual whole nights sleep without being woken by a baby from night to morning!

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 09:11

Great mrs!

Writer I sympathise Sad

AuntieMaggie · 03/10/2014 11:56

writer sending you a hug (I could've written your last paragraph - because I had bad spd towards the end of my pregnancy it feels like it's been a long time since I could do what I wanted)

cariad yes they need to feed more when they have a cold to prevent dehydration

DS slept for about 10 mins when I finally put him down at 10 pm then had a screaming session so then went to sleep at 11 and when he woke just at 4 I was so shocked but then he had another unsettled hour before going to sleep for an hour.

Saw doctor this morning who said ds still needs to feed in the night to keep his weight on track (he's dropped a bit on the graph) so I'm ok with ds not sleeping through if that's what he needs even if I am knackered!

AuntieMaggie · 03/10/2014 12:19

I need to stop reading the "my neighbours baby cries all the time" threads - surefire way to feel even worse about ds's screaming fits :(

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 12:44

DS been cot napping for nearly 2.5 hours again!

Sammyviv · 03/10/2014 13:22

Writer I totally know what you mean about missing time to yourself. I also describe it as feeling responsible for someone else all the time, there's no break ever, well that's what it feels like. So your not alone in your thoughts...I said to my sister this morning, I can't wait till he's 12!! lol but I shouldn't wish the time away.

AuntieMaggie · 03/10/2014 14:28

ds has just had almost 3 hours sleep - he never does that during the day!

squizita · 03/10/2014 14:55

Hi Bugs!

Cannot sounds like progress! Grin

Sad Writer and Cariad sending FX for quiet nights tonight!

Mrs wow! One day I hope dd will do that. Smile What a lovely milestone.

Auntie oh well if the Dr says a night feed is needed, it's needed. Hope baby gets bigger and night sleeps happen/become advised! Just met my neighbour in Tesco- they asked genuinely "does she grizzle or cry?" ... PHEW! Live mid terrace so utterly paranoid. Elderly and they turn their hearing aids off at 10! Grin

Just a minor grr ... HV weighed dd yesterday and she was up to birth weight. Today at mw appt they weighed her on different scales: she was down an oz or 2. Shock so then they say "oh it means nothing, different scales, could be a poo or wee etc" SI WHY WEIGH HER DAY AFTER ANOTHER WEIGH IN!!!!! Especially as I'm under the mw longer FOR MY FRICKEN HEALTH ANXIETY!!
PLEASE reassure me (as they did)!!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 16:58

I'm always apologising to my neighbours (semi detached) because I'm paranoid that DS keeps them up at night but they always assure me that they never hear him. I'm sure they're just being polite.

DS hasn't seemed himself today, especially this morning and had got a really runny nose and keeps sneezing. He's perked up a little this evening though and had just fed himself 5 spoons of Egg Custard which he seemed up enjoy. He's now playing with his toys and blowing bubbles.

He's had 3 naps today: a 20 minute nap, a 15 minute nap and an hour nap.

I'm currently deciding whether to order myself a curry for tea - I haven't had one since before I got pregnant!!! I think it will cheer me up and mentally prepare myself for what will no doubt be another horrific night Grin

Very frustrating isn't it squiz, are you BFing? My 4mo has dropped over 2 centiles since birth and I've been told he needs to gain more - but otherwise he is a totally happy, healthy, strong and sociable baby, with no obvious feeding issues... So I'm left feeling crap as if my milk is simply not nourishing enough!

Even if I wanted to, I can't even beef him up with a bit of "hungry baby" formula because he won't take a bottle anymore!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 17:29

Really don't worry yourself about the weights if they are happy and healthy babies. My DS was just under the 91st percentile at birth and slowly dropped down and he is now between the 25th-50th and that's been his norm for months Smile

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 17:30

And hungry baby milk doesn't gave any extra calories in, it just makes babies feed less often so giving it would have the complete opposite effect that you'd want Grin

Mine is only 25th percentile to start with but if the hcp are happy guess I should be.
I think scary stories of bf issues online scare me!!
Met a mate with an EBF 10 week old today: she's clearly big and strong! Just bF like me, on demand not "scientific" so FX that's how it might go for me.

Cannotbelieveit · 03/10/2014 19:19

Google an article called look at the baby not the scales

DS having his last feed. He's napped for over 3.5hrs today. Hoping for a decent night again and when he wakes gonna offer him both sides again to see if he only wakes the once Wink

squizita · 03/10/2014 19:39

Thanks Cannot ... that's the phrase the mw used too!

Getting a muscular twinge down low after feeding. Got myself paranoid as to what it is. No temperature or discharge and it's only when I move fast so reckon it's muscle! Dh says it's where a tendon is
Anyway.

mrsmugoo · 03/10/2014 19:45

Had a good day today - DS's new cotbed is built and the spare room (now nursery) curtains have had black out linings put in and re-hung today. We are going on holiday to Spain tomorrow and will complete the bedroom move when we get back.

Spending the rest of the evening finishing the packing. Can't wait to get to the villa and see the sunshine!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/10/2014 20:24

He's awake after 45 minutes and the screaming had started Sad
