Still screaming

Sammyviv · 17/09/2014 03:30

Any news from writer?
Anyone else awake? Cookie my DS does the same although he doesn't scream he just squeeks...funny how we sleep deprive ourselves so they can sleep. My DP just woke up talking in his sleep and jumped up to do something but didn't know what lol
So both my boys are asleep one next to me and one on my chest and I'm desperately trying to stay awake

cookielove · 17/09/2014 03:42

I am still awake. Managed to get ds into his bed twice for 15 minutes before he tantrums. Have cracked and am giving him a bottle in the hope that a full belly will help him stay asleep not in my arms.

cookielove · 17/09/2014 03:42

He didn't use to scream :(

Sammyviv · 17/09/2014 04:56

Oh no cookie you mean my DS still has the potential to scream! Otitis lily get why they don't like the Moses basket/cot they are cold and un cosy
DS just gave me 15 mins and now he's back on the boob Hmm

cookielove · 17/09/2014 05:35

He slept on his own for an hour and a bit but woke up screaming god I feel worse than before and I can't stand this!

AuntieMaggie · 17/09/2014 06:27

Sammy there are loads of growth spurts in the first few weeks and their bellies are so tiny they need to feed more often - stick with it and it will get better

Cannotbelieveit · 17/09/2014 06:29

Sorry everyone had bad nightsHmm

Thanks for the bday wishes, very quiet day Apart from getting a puncture in one of the tires of the double pushchair whilst we were outConfused

DS shocked me and slept 8.10am-6.10am. He's drained one boob in less than 5 mins and is now on the other one! Let's hope he's coming out the regression. Even if he still has some bad nights at least I know he can still do it!

Writer when you read this we have all been thinking about you and baby writer and are worried about you both. Hope you're all ok x

cookie hope you are asleep now

ds woke an hour ago for a feed then had a bit of a screaming fit when it came to going back to sleep so I gave him gripe water and am now holding him really tightly after rocking him to sleep. poor thing is exhausted like his mummy but I can hear the wind in his belly

Cariad007 · 17/09/2014 06:42

I found that gripe water made DS even more uncomfortable. Infacol worked for him though.

He slept from 930-530am again so not too bad I guess. If only I could get him to go a few hours more to 8am!

Cannotbelieveit · 17/09/2014 06:52

Infacol here too. Though you have to give with every feed as it has a cumulative effect

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 17/09/2014 07:21

Gripe water was our saviour around 8 weeks when he wouldn't sleep because of wind - I remember it well!

So last night I managed to resettle him at 1:30am and he went on to sleep until 4:30am in the end before feeding and going back down til 6:45. I left him chattering in the cot til 7 though. We don't get up before 7!

notadoctor · 17/09/2014 07:58

Morning all! Sorry to hear about the tough nights - we only had one wake up at 2am and then up for the day at 7ish so not too bad.

For those with windy babies - have you tried baby massage? My DS was really windy and I started doing some tummy massage at every nappy change and it seemed to really stop the wind building up. You can look on YouTube for clips of how to do the strokes.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/09/2014 08:23

Morning all, thank you for your well wishes. We got back from A&E at midnight and have had a horrible night.

I took him in because he had only fed 4 times yesterday and only for about 2 minutes at a time and his nappies were dry. At 6pm he had another huge episode of projectile vomiting and there were 4 outbursts, milk and clear fluid were just pouring out if him, it was horrible, that's when we decided to take him in.

They obviously let us go home and I mistakenly thought that as he'd been awake from 4pm-11.30pm he'd sleep well but how wrong I was. He was up every two hours and I feel shattered . He still isn't feeding well at all but at least he isn't being sick either.

I will go back now and read how everyone's nights were!!

Cannotbelieveit · 17/09/2014 08:39

What did they say it could be writer? Glad you could come back home tho not so good he still isn't feeding well. I'm sure as soon as he perks up he will feed properly

A mixture of a bad stomach bug and the fact he hasn't had his anti-reflux medication for 4 days which is because the GP surgery sent his prescription to Surrey for done bizarre reason. Thankfully we can pick it up today though. According to my neighbour Gastroenteritis is working its way around our Baby Play Group Hmm Just got to ride it out I guess. He does seem happier in himself this morning though so I'm glad of that.

I'm worried about my milk supply though seeing as for the last 24-36 hours DS has hardly fed. I tried expressing some in the car last night on the way back from the hospital (classy) but hardly anything came our. Boobs are feeling very soft and empty Hmm I guess I'll have to just keep offering it to him every few hours!!

Sammyviv · 17/09/2014 08:48

Hey writer glad your all ok
Sorry you had a had night, take comfort that a lot of us did too. I'm guessing you need to keep baby hydrated is that what they said?

Sammyviv · 17/09/2014 08:49

May I ask what is anti reflux medication?
I have a feeling being a mummy now means we are Gona see all sorts of bugs come and go in this house hold, that I am not looking forward too Hmm

Writerwannabe83 · 17/09/2014 08:58

Sammy - reflux is when stomach contents and stomach acid can come back up the oesophagus and is extremely painful for babies. It's due to them not having particularly strong stomach muscles. The symptoms are worse after a feed and especially at night as the pain is the worst when babies are flat on their back. Some babies will frequently vomit because of it whereas others just get the equivalent of us having heartburn and you tend to find these babies cry and scream as though they are in extreme pain - especially at night. This is the form my DS has. It's initially treated with Gaviscon but it's a nightmare to give to BF babies hence why he is a medication form of treatment - just had yo have a tiny dose three times a day. The drug neutralises the acidity of the stomach to prevent the heartburn pain.

Cannotbelieveit · 17/09/2014 09:12

Writer I think milk supply is pretty robust by this time so just keep offering and have a warm bath when you can and hand express/stimulate

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 17/09/2014 09:55

I like the sound of a warm bath and now I have a 'medical' reason to do it Grin I will leave DS with DH tonight and I will slink off upstairs for my necessary bath Grin I will also tell him I've been advised to stay in there for at least an hour....

KateTheShrew · 17/09/2014 10:10

Morning all... writer poor you, what a night! Definitely take a long warm bath: I think bubbles, chocolate and a small medicinal wine might be advisable too Wink I hope your DS is on the mend and feeding properly again very soon. I second what cannot says about milk supply being robust by now. I very seldom have that very full feeling any more (even though DS is frequently far too busy and important crawling about and causing mayhem to feed much during the day makes up for it at night though).

Well it seems the other night's long sleep was indeed a fluke. Got DS to bed at 7.30/8ish last night. He had to be shushed and patted back to sleep by DH at 8.40 and 9.30 and then woke at 11.30, 2.15 and 4.14 Hmm I fed him back to sleep every time just so I could get back to sleep asap myself. I have to tackle the feeding to sleep, but can't face it just yet

Writerwannabe83 · 17/09/2014 10:17

Sounds like bad nights were had all round - maybe they were just worried about Baby Writer and will sleep better tonight now they know he is ok Grin

I can't drink wine unfortunately (heart condition) but I will settle for chocolate and a cup of tea Grin

cookielove · 17/09/2014 10:30

Oh writer, it sounds like you win hands down. Which is crap really!

Ds work at half 8 :( boob fed him and he settled for hr ish and had a bottle at 10. Every bottle so far he only has half of, so he must be getting more from me cause he usually drinks them all.

AuntieMaggie · 17/09/2014 10:35

Sending you a hug writer - glad it's nothing serious. My nephew had projectile vomiting because of reflux after most feeds until he was about a year old - it's worrying isn't it.

notadoctor is there any particular massage that worked? We've been doing some and cycling his legs but will be extra vigilant now.

I think trying him with formula a couple of nights ago has really affected him.

I used to use infacol but he brings his wind up easier without it. Gripe water works well for his odd bout of bad wind.
