This is a thread for everyone to chat to each other about their experiences of night time feeding, the good, the bad and the ugly!

There are already a few of us who have been chatting about this in another forum for a few months now but we want to migrate over here to meet more sleep deprived parents!!

Log on and post, no whatever silly hour it is, and vent away about how knackered and stressed you are!! There's a good chance someone else is up and feeding crying with exhaustion too!!

Introductions: I have a 7 week old son, first baby and exclusively breastfeed. He's normally a nightmare to settle to sleep, screaming for hours on end, but will go for 5 hour stretches of sleep!

I've got a 19wk old dd. Breastfed apart from 1 bottle a day plus another if she wakes in the middle of the night. Sleep varied in the last month or so - some nights sleeps through, others an early morning feed, others awful! Never managed to get her down before 10pm though, she feeds all evening.

Forgot my stats:

9 week old DD (first child) EBF to 8 weeks and now on formula. She tends to only wake once during the night at the mo - usually at 4am.

I've got a 12wk old DS. Also breastfed apart from 10/11 oclock dreamfeed given by DP. I'm lucky that he goes down for the evening at around 7, has dreamfeed then usually sleeps until 6. I never dreamt I would get free evenings with a newborn! On the flip side he doesn't generally nap well in the day but is quite content on his mat or in his chair so not so bad.
The last week or so he has been waking every 2 hours for a mini feed from midnight onwards! help!lol

I have an 11 week old DD, DC#2. She is now ebf; we have had a few issues along the way. TT which has been snipped twice and re grown again, which probably caused some of the supply issues I've been having.

I'm now eating my body weight in oats, taking fenugreek and now domperidone, it seems to have worked and we are coming out the other end now.

She isn't too bad at sleeping. She goes to bed the same time as DD1. Bath and bed routine, best invention ever. Will wake up between 12 and 2, then again at 5. That's when she is niggly and will usually wake up an hour later

Evening feeders!

I have a 6wk old DS - he's a very chilled out little thing and so far has been easy to settle but he feeds very regularly, around every 2hrs (at the moment he's EBF). I also have a DD - she's 2.5yo and is not sleeping very well since her baby brother arrived so she's currently sleeping in bed with me.

Ooh please can I join? I need something to make me sit up in the night and feed DS properly rather than shoving him on a boob whilst lying down. I think it's too cosy for him and he just falls asleep whereas if I sat up and made sure he was full he possibly might not wake up every hour thereafter!

Who knows! DS is 26 weeks and breastfed with 1 bottle as a dream feed. I feed him to sleep at 8 and he then wakes up between 2 and 8 (!) times for boob. The longest he has ever slept is 5 hours when we stayed at a relatives house and they left the heating on all night and nearly cooked him. A typical night I am lucky to get 3 consecutive hours out of him.

DS is my first baby, 9 weeks and EBF. It was torture trying to get feeding established and I've had cracked nipples, recurrent blocked ducts, mastitis, thrush...you name it! However now he's got the hang of breastfeeding he's a total boob monster and steadfast bottle refuser.

He's also a crappy sleeper - is super laborious to get to sleep in the day (needs to be rocked, shushed, patted and walked around the room for at least half an hour) and has no tiredness cues whatsoever. At night I'm lucky to get 2 hours out of him at the start of the night then he'll be awake an hour, asleep an hour etc all through the night.

We are currently co-sleeping for a bit while we work on getting his daytime sleep a bit more consistent and because he's just grown out of his Moses basket and isn't loving his new cot at all!

He should have gone down at 8:30 as per our new bedtime routine but he wouldn't drop off, then had wind, then pooed his nappy then was sick all over his grobag. So he is currently asleep on me. I just need to lower him into the bed and them we will attempt some sleep!

Yeah it freaked me out as well! I resolved to take my gro egg with me whenever we go away overnight... People have different ideas of what's a normal temperature to sleep in!

Fetacat my ds started sleeping for longer stretches at night once I got the iPad out and stayed awake long enough to give him a full feed, making sure I winded him well. After doing this he dropped his between 2-4 feed. Although he's randomly started waking again the past week- I'm hoping is a phase! I'm starting to get so engrossed in mumsnet at 2am that Ds is asleep in his cot and I'm still on Mn!

I'll join you all :) with feeding dd, 3wks. She's been a breastfeeding pro compared to her brother, now 2.8yo and thus far isn't too bad a sleeper. That could all change though!

Currently waiting for her to wake up for feed and change, but really should have gone to sleep myself a couple hours ago when she did. Still adjusting to losing my precious evening me time. Seems spark out so maybe I should sleep now. Co sleeping for now.

It'smeeecathy that sounds promising! I am going to try tonight...I know what you mean about finding yourself internetting when the babe is fast asleep! I am doing it right now...

Hi all, I've got a 9 week old, ebf. He has slept pretty much all day today after having his jabs this morning .

Haven't given the calpol yet, he's a bit grizzly but doesn't have a temperature. He's just not quite himself. Still now I have bought it, I am ready for the next time!

After an hour of faffing around in his MB DS finally self settled to sleep. However, 30 minutes later he's wide awake again and I'm just about to feed him. Motherhood is just a never ending cycle of feeding and exhaustion.

Phew, she's awake and relieving my rock hard boob now just changing and settling to get through and I can sleep!

She's feeding back to sleep, if only these newborn nappies held more than 3hrs pee! Argh!

I know what you mean misty - on a few occasions back in the early days my DS would wake up because his clothes were damp with wee.

Mine was just falling asleep at the breast when suddenly he let out the most almighty trump, all kinds of squeaky noises and ripples coming from his bottom and so that woke him right up!! DH is now changing his nappy!! Apparently DS has just been sick down himself too.

Please, please, please DS, go back to being sleepy!

I'm seriously considering leaving her in this nappy and dealing with wet through later. She's waking up actually. Ah well.

Owlina, sometimes they will give a prescription for calpol if you ask! Lansinoh too for that matter.

I have 11 week old dd2 who is ebf. Usual bf problems of cracked nipples, mastitis etc. Experience has shown that using nipple shields all the time works best for me. Sleep patterns have been variable but at the moment dd2 settles for the night around 10 after cluster feeding. She wakes once on a good night or occasionally sleeps through which is way better than previous babies!

. I also have school age ds and dd so no matter what kind of sleep we all walk to school at 8.30. Some days I could do without but I think it helps give a bit of routine to the day.

3rd feed of the night here. Am trying to make it a full one but the urge to lie down and snooze is strong... Also realised most on here have much younger DC than me!

Feeding DS - 18 weeks old, second child. He was a great sleeper until 4 mo sleep regression hit (sob). Actually coming through it now and getting better again with me really fighting for regular naps.

First feed of the night. Tbh I thought she would have gone for longer, but DD1 decided to wake up crying for her missing dummy. She ended up working herself into a screaming fit before wiping her nose on a tissue and calmly asking for a biscuit. Then all was well. Toddlers, arrgh!
