Brand new thread Grin

Hi there! My little girl is 5 weeks, I'm EBF at the moment.

Not having the best night, couldn't get her to settle until gone midnight and now I've been up since 2.15 for this feed.

This evening we spent from around 8.30 to midnight feeding but she always fights me at this time of day, pushing against me with her hands and only stays latched on for a few seconds then cries when she comes off until I get her back on again! Its so frustrating and exhausting! Seems to happen most nights but not usually going on for as long as tonight! Anyone know what it al about? I wish she'd do a normal feed and then settle for bed!

Bumbolina · 16/07/2013 03:43

Just saw this! I remember commenting on thread number 1 back when my little girl was a baby!
She's now 2 - am still feeding her, she wakes most nights but tonight has been particularly painful because she has chicken pox.
I'm still hoping she'll sleep through the night soon... GrinGrin

lazzaroo · 16/07/2013 12:10

Just did a google search on how people fit naps into day with early risers. Results included a MN thread, so I thought I'd see what wise words were to be found. Post was from Aug 2010....half way through I realise I was the original poster!! It was my thread!! Talk about history repeating itself! I did comment that my baby had just started sleeping though....she would have been about 8/9months, so there is hope!!

lazzaroo · 16/07/2013 12:22

Sorry, hi coldtea & congrats on your new arrival. Sounds like cluster feeding, possible combined with growth spurt which is due around the 6 week mark. With regards to the pulling off & on, could be something upsetting her but she's getting comfort from feeding so she's giving you contradictory signs. My dd1 was a bit like that and she had reflux. Not saying that's what it is but just suggesting there might be a reason....there usually is...we just can't always figure it out! Someone more knowledgeable will come along in a minute!

lazzaroo · 16/07/2013 12:23

And bumbolina....seriously hope we're sleeping through by 2!!

Bumbolina · 16/07/2013 18:00

Lazzaroo - I used to say that too! Didn't think I'd survive this long. Stupid thing is I've got used to it - and wake ups are generally quicker these days.
She's started going much longer though, with the odd night of really good sleep so isn't all bad. The most stupid thing is I'm now pregnant with dc2 so even when she sleeps I'm up in the night having a wee Grin

larlemucker · 16/07/2013 19:57

Congrats bumbolina and cold tea.

Cold tea have you tried burping when LO comes off? That's what was wrong with baby larle when he did that.

2 days done, I'm knackered!!! Baby larle is fine with daddy. Boobs a little sore during the day but I'm managing to express, got 11oz today! Never got that much in 1 day!!
Bit pissed off with the lass who did my maternity cover, she's left my classroom in such a mess. Paperwork not filed, unmarked tests and homework in boxes. Really not impressed. Been clearing up all day today and still only about half way through.
Been wearing my ww pedometer, walked 2.5 miles cleaning up!!!

Hope you're all well

SoYo · 17/07/2013 20:41

Well done for surviving Larle. I haven't been around much as we've been having bedtime horrors here, not sure if its growth spurt, teething or just the heat but fingers crossed its temporary. Attempting bedtime number 2 here but fully expecting at least 5 before success!

ColdTeaAgain · 17/07/2013 21:46

Yeah I try to burp her but don't usually get any results. I have wondered if it's reflux but she seems to be fine the rest of the time, can reflux be a problem at certain times of day?

We're now on the third night running of this. She's wide awake from about 7-8pm and we get fussy feeding and crying until she eventually wears herself out around midnight. Its making me so tired being up late every night, as there's normally 3 night feeds to get through before 6am Hmm

SoYo · 18/07/2013 01:41

Cold my DDwas exactly the same. I wish I had some helpful advice but I never found my solution but did find that bit didn't last long and I had a better spell after around week 7/8 for a while. I hope yours gets better quickly.

ColdTeaAgain · 18/07/2013 03:43

Thanks Soyo, at least it sounds like its normal for her age. Just when I think we have some sort of pattern going on, it's all change again!

Got her to sleep at half midnight and now up since 3.15, longest stretch of sleep I've had for a while!

larlemucker · 20/07/2013 16:19

Helloooooo???

lazzaroo · 20/07/2013 21:14

Still loitering but am so tired at night and can barely see DD let alone read & type! Am at a bit of an all time peak regarding tiredness. DD won't settle for DH so am up all through the night, plus she is the day at 5am (or 4.30am as this morning!).....finding it hard to see an end to it at the moment.

On the plus side, she's an angel in the day. Full of smiles, content & loving her food. Latest success...pasta & garlic bread! Smile. had sone smelly burps that night Wink

SoYo · 20/07/2013 22:25

Hi all, madam has been up every 2hrs for 3 nights so been too tired for reading & posting but I certainly haven't graduated & jumped ship. We're on bedtime number 2 here. Wish us luck!

larlemucker · 21/07/2013 07:16

Got woken up at 5 am by the neighbour. In his garden with his mates chatting. Had to shut windows. Seriously 5am?? I would have shouted out the window but he is a bit scary!!

lazzaroo · 21/07/2013 19:23

Evening all. Been out for the day. Both DD's slept the whole way home...that's over an hours sleep at 5pm! God only knows what that means for the night ahead....but pretty sure I'll be ready for bed before they are!!

igirisu · 21/07/2013 20:59

I find playing Candy Crush Saga (trashy iphone app) a bit of facebook stalking or looking at Amanda Bynes twitter feed helps immensely during my night feeds.

ColdTeaAgain · 22/07/2013 03:26

How annoying larle, not good having to shut windows in this hot weather, I'm finding it stuffy enough as it is when we wake up in the night and thats with windows open!

Well I don't know whats happened but we went to bed at 11 and she didn't stir until 3! I think thats by far our longest stretch of sleep to date! I hope its not a one off!

larlemucker · 22/07/2013 09:51

Well last next I went back to having 3 boobs!!
Baby larle went left, right, left at half 1 this morn!!!

Tonight we are going to start putting him to sleep in his cot and try and keep him there all night!!!!
He has been having his daytime naps in his cot so fingers crossed it will work!!

Brandy1985 · 22/07/2013 12:59

Hi I have a 3 week old who doesn't like to sleep much during the day and guzzles when he feeds because I have a quick let down which in turn gives him belly ache coz of trapped wind. If I'm lucky he may sleep for 3 hrs but the best I get is wen he sleeps on my chest as every time I put him down he wakes (I no they don't advise it but he leaves me with little choice) am I on my own in this with just z fussy baby or are there any recommendations?

lazzaroo · 22/07/2013 13:33

Hi brandy I too had (still a bit over powering at 6months!) over supply & fast letdown. My lo slept on me or DH A LOT in the early days! it does get better but there are also some things you can try to help. Kellymom website in particular is worth a look. Things like positioning little one so he has to suck upwards slightly (if that makes sense!)so milk doesn't just shoot down his throat. And frequent winding!

I have had a number of occasions when feeding while out where I had to e careful not to spray nearby people! Most notably in costa coffee! Because fast let down & over supplyoften causes fizziness at breast, coming off and on etc.

My dd1 had reflux & h/v was keen to suggest dd2 did too, but having lived through it once she definitely doesn't! It's just my over active boobs! Behaviours can be similar though so consider all options.

It definitely gets better though! Congratulations Smile

lazzaroo · 22/07/2013 13:34

Oops....fussiness not fizziness!!

SoYo · 22/07/2013 19:38

Good luck with the cot Larle.

Brandy our 5m old still only rarely goes in the cot for daytime naps but nights just got better on their own in terms of getting her down from about week 6ish. It's very normal & I just went with what seemed easiest for my to cope with at first!

beaver33 · 23/07/2013 04:19

Hey all

soYo am the same right now. We've now gone 10 days where my now 10 week old is feeding every 1-2 hours day + night. No napping during the day (or obly if she can stay lying on me Hmm ) so no catch up for me. I'm bloody exhausted.

Anyone else awake??

ColdTeaAgain · 23/07/2013 04:32

Yep I'm awake.

Seems last nights 4 hours of sleep was a one off. Tonight I've been feeding DD from 10pm to 1.30am. Now been awake again since 4. Our bedtime is always so late. Its a good night if I get to sleep before midnight Hmm bloody shattered!
