A nice shiny new thread!

Last night we went to bed after last feed at 11 & were up 2-3.20, 5-5.45 & 6.15-7.30 (when I woke her Granny and handed her over and went back to bed until now). Better than the previous night but still much worse than at home. I'm just getting scared that she won't go back when we get hone and with nobody to hand her over to that'll be a nightmare.

Abi I'm staying here until Friday.

MrsN I don't think there's anything wrong with what you're doing. Everyone else should butt out, only you really know what feels right for your baby and you at this moment and sometimes you have to just forget about the long term (and try not to worry that you're making bad habits as my MIL keeps telling me) and remember that it's very rare to see a co-sleeping teenager!!

TeaandHobnobs · 05/05/2013 14:44

MrsN you are doing a great job, put the critiscism out of your mind Smile If it helps, Babytea's sleep went to pot again after 3 days of nursery - we had him in bed with us from about midnight and he wasn't even sleeping that much, just feeding all the time. He hasn't been drinking much milk or water at nursery so I didn't want to withhold milk at night. But last night, just as we were planning to get back on the sleep training again, he randomly slept through of his own volition! We'd also taken him to bed to try and keep him quiet, as the neighbours have started banging on the wall when he cries in the night Hmm very helpful.

So stick to your guns, do what you feel is right and it will all work out eventually. I think the first year (and quite possibly beyond!) is all about survival Smile

MrsNPattz · 05/05/2013 19:31

Thanks for the support guys, I try to take no notice but sometimes it's hard! You guys always make me feel better xx

MrsN there is nothing wrong with what you are doing, you know what is best for your baby!

Baby larle has let us watch the hobbit this aft, weather has been horrid so haven't really been out.
Want to have our tea with him sat in his high chair this eve to get him used to it but he fell asleep instead!!

Managed to persuade DH to do a night feed tonight. Fingers crossed I've expressed enough!!!

abi2790 · 05/05/2013 20:58

Ugghhh we've had 3 transfer fails already tonight.

Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight larle. Ds refuses to drink from a bottle Sad.

larlemucker · 05/05/2013 21:18

Thankfully baby larle has never suffered from 'nipple confusion'!!

Fingers crossed for a successful transfer abi

SoYo · 05/05/2013 22:14

I'm desperate to get this baby to have a bottle so I can have a few hours off but she point blank refuses. I've tried different bottles, different people giving, giving when calm/half fed/hungry, warm/cold, formula/EBM and nothing seems to work. She screams herself into a total state & then I feel so shot for it. Was supposed to be going to the pub with my dad for a couple of hours tonight for my first trip out in 10 weeks but after 3 mega screaming fits in the last 24hrs it was a no go. Bugger.

larlemucker · 05/05/2013 22:32

We've just had another screaming fit too soyo, it's currently taking 3 hours a night to get him to sleep. Don't know what to do, don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if he is in pain or what.Hmm

larlemucker · 06/05/2013 00:35

Awake again, had bottle and still crying, so much for me not having to get up for one of the feeds Hmm

larlemucker · 06/05/2013 01:41

And we're awake again. So glad I spent all that time and money expressing milk. What a fucking waste

larlemucker · 06/05/2013 03:11

Oh dear god give me strength

SoYo · 06/05/2013 04:25

Oh Larle that's shit. Hugs & Brew

We went to bed at 9.45 & didn't get her to sleep until 12.30, she's never done that before (not since week 1 anyway). Usually the first feed is when she goes down easiest. She's been whinging for the last 45mis. But just up for a feed at 4.15 so at least it's a decent stretch, not sure how much more we'll get though. Coming away has screwed her sleeping up so much that I really think I might have to take her home early to try to get back some better(ish) pattern.

abi2790 · 06/05/2013 04:55

larle Maybe he's feeding a lot for comfort? Is he the same in the day? Ds feeds for hours at a time when he's really tired. What time do you start your bedtime routine?

Ds finally went down at 9 which is really late for him. Unfortunately that didn't make him sleep right through as he woke up about half an hour ago. He's asleep again now though. Wish me luck for transfer!

MrsNPattz · 06/05/2013 08:46

Usual night here, we go home today so at least I won't have the pressure of trying not waking everybody up at night.

Sorry there were rubbish nights again!

OP posts:
Emilythornesbff · 06/05/2013 08:59

larle sorry you've had such a rotten night.
Quite a few wakeful babies here.

I have nev mastered the organisational skills quoted for successful expressing. I express and it feels like half a day's work with the sterilising and timing and then I misjudge a feeding cue and waste the milk. So much easier to just breastfeeding (and never leave the house alone or have a drink again for the next year Grin.

Babythorne had a few feeds last night but I can't remember when and I couldn't reach my iPad to see you guys. I have solved the problem of transfer fails by co sleeping Grin which probably means I'm raising another crappy sleeper.

larlemucker · 06/05/2013 11:52

Bedtime routine starts at 7 abi, he just hates going to sleep!

After a terrible start to the night he slept 3.30-7 ish thank god!!

emily I've bought an ameda lactiline, I spend 15 mins in a morning expressing. It's easier if DH is off as he gets baby larle sorted while I start expressing. I'm not very good though, normally get a total of 3 oz!!

Hope everyone has a good day

SoYo · 06/05/2013 11:59

Glad you got some snooze time Larle, Madam woke up again at 5.30 but came into bed with me for a lying down feed and we both slept until 8.45! Miraculous!

We're off to a BBQ at family friends today which should be nice but I think I'll be bombarded with 'helpful' tips on how I should be looking after my baby! At least it's walking distance so I can always leave and plead the excuse that she needs a nap. I am looking forward to a nice glass of something in the sun!

Hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the sunshine today. It's lovely actually being able to enjoy this, I'm usually trapped inside a hot hospital ward for 13hrs on the sunny bank holidays! Maternity leave definitely has its benefits.

MrsNPattz · 06/05/2013 12:45

That's what we are doing too Emily Blush

I'm in agony today with my bitten boob Sad

OP posts:
lazzaroo · 06/05/2013 18:57

Have not been absent due to sleep! Although things seem slightly improved over past couple of nights (sure way to jinx it!). Dd2 has been sleeping till about midnight (last feed usually 6.30-7pmish) and then waking for another feed about 4ish. She still gets very unsettled at 5ish, mainly due to wind. Not sure how we're going to overcome that. Makes me think maybe she was growth spurting a couple of weeks ago? I have also been feeding more frequenty in the day to up her overall intake.

Dd1 is also sleeping better now as her chicken pox has settled down.

larle you have my sympathies. Sounds all too familiar. Have forgotten the age of your lo, sorry. But could it be growth spurt? Or teething?

We've had lots of fresh air in the lovely sunshine today so fingers crossed for good night. DH leaving for work for few days so all wake ups over to me....good luck all!

larlemucker · 06/05/2013 19:30

Baby larle is 4 and a half months. Could be teething, not sure when the growth spurts are

TeaandHobnobs · 06/05/2013 19:36

Ouch MrsN Sad hope it heals soon. I saw you'd started a thread about biting somewhere, and someone recommended pushing them into towards you when they do it or are about to do it (if you can tell) - that way they have to unlatch to breathe. Has worked for many people I know.

Larle 3oz sounds pretty good to me, that's all I can ever get in one sitting now, and that's with forward planning of letting one boob "fill up" or managing to express when DS hasn't fed for quite a while.

Poor boy has super snotty eyes today Sad his right eye was welded shut this morning! We were up just before 4am today, but given he'd slept from 8pm, we won't complain. Back to work/nursery tomorrow Confused

lazzaroo · 06/05/2013 20:53

Thought so larle, we must have similar birthdays. I know it's no consolation in the lonely early hours! But sometimes having a possible explanation helps me see an end in sight! (and something to say to the question I hate most in the worked....is she sleeping through yet?). I don't know if you've come across the 'wonder weeks' but weeks 16-19 is a classic 'stormy' period.

I'm off to bed already in the hope of some sleep before first feed!

MrsNPattz · 06/05/2013 21:06

Thanks Tea, at the moment I have started saying no, taking him off and then putting him on his back on the floor for a minute. If that doesn't work I will try pushing him in! Little man has snotty eyes too - it's blocked tear ducts in his case! Could that be the problem?

Good luck for tonight guys - I'm not expecting much!
