Night out was great thanks heff. Went to a concert by a student of mine. It was The programme was amazing and she was brilliant.

Tonight has been crap though. Apparently he wouldn't settle in early part of night, and hasn't since. Lots of flailing and kicking, then the now obligatory overflowing nappy and two feeds of 200 ml each. That can't be right surely, taking half his milk intake for the day at night?? Am I going to end up with a giant baby that eats half the kitchen at one fell swoop?

2nd waking of the night but just for a cuddle, dp did the 11am feed and is now snoring, I don't mind doing the cuddly wake ups, bit gutted the alarm is going to go off in an hour.

We are swimming today too daddyfunch, I take a big bath towel for babyloo rather than a baby towell and then bundle him up in it and let him play with it while I put my clothes on then I get him dressed.

Heff, I let DH off too because he is so good with DD1, and someone needs to be, especially in the early days with a baby as they take up so much time. I'm also pretty sure he could cope if he had to.

After a poor start, we have had a four hour stretch. Sick of her nappies though, leaked yet again resulting a in a change and feed just after I posted last time. Not sure what to do about nappies as it seems to be volume rather than size. Can anyone recommend a biodegradable disposable??

Terrible night here - not bad til 2:30 but then constant tears so full nappy change and clothes change, then bottle from DH, then 20 min stretches til 5:45 then up. Poor daddyfunch. I was up for a bit doing the nappy change and then couldn't sleep so am also really tired (this is fate's revenge for me saying I never feel tired at work!). And now she is asleep again! Grr.

Hope swimming tires her out! Thanks for all the tips, I am so looking forward to hearing all about it and the fabled post swimming great night's sleep

Well we're up here, she kept up the two hourly wakings all night :( Weaning is due to commence this week, she's had a few bits and pieces to chew on to keep her happy while we eat and has really enjoyed them so going to take the plunge and do it properly now so maybe it might help at nighttime deluded

Swimming today too, dd1 has her lesson and babylump gets to play in the crèche which she always seems to enjoy, then a few NCT friends are heading over for coffee later. Much needed coffee!

sorry to hear there were so many bad nights out there. Baby larle slept 11-5 then we had a couple of transfer fails and he woke up doing his usual 8am poo!! Isn't weird how they seem to poo at the same time each day!!

Welcome daddyfunch, hope you enjoy the swimming, we've not started yet as we're waiting for two spaces to come up so we can go with a friend baby larles future wife!!!!!!

Heff hope you enjoy your coffee with the NCT girls, we don't have NCT locally so I never joined but thankfully have a few friends with babies otherwise I would be so bored! I haven't quite got to the bored stage yet but baby larle is only 10 weeks!
I try and break the days down into chunks which means I never get bored and theres always something to watch on the tv!!!

Glad you found us stitch, I'll take a chocolate or two as I'm pigging out a bit this week because I start WW on tuesday .

Sorry about the nappies marbles, we use a combination of reuseables and asdas little angels, no experience of biodegradables.

We're off to bumps and babes this morn, we're going to walk there and then walk up the really steep hill on the way home!!! Then I plan chick flick afternoon as I have one day from lovefilm.

We had a better night than usual, still a good few wakings but less screaming. He also slept on his front for main part of night and seemed much comfier and more settled? I was nervous & kept checking him!

Small and mrsn I am also not very career driven & often feel like I should be really, lots of my Uni friends have done loads of post grad stuff, I did a post grad cert in forensic radiography just before I had DD, and enjoyed it and plan was to join the uk forensic radiography team which means I would go out to disasters such as tsunami 9/11 etc as well as doing my normal job, as the team x-ray to identify bodies, after I had DD I was worried about leaving her if I had to go somewhere and DM was having kittens about something happening to me! But maybe ill look into it again, it is very interesting.

How long does it usually take for a tooth to come once you can feel it??

Ours was only a couple of days mrsn but think it can vary, give him lots of teething toys as biting will help it come through x

Thanks for all the advice re swimming. Having remembered to pack everything, walked to the car in the rain, driven to the leisure centre, found and paid for a parking space, paid for entry, got changed, got Sophie changed, put stuff in the locker, forgotten to shower, gone back & showered and tentatively taken our first steps into the water, a little boy decided to throw up in the pool meaning we all had to get out while they cleaned it! Brilliant! We can't have been in for more than ten seconds!! On the plus side they did give me a refund so not in as bad a mood as I was at the time!

Oh no daddyfunch, nightmare don't let it put you off though!

Had a nice day today, baby group was cancelled so we went to pets at home for rabbit food then popped into my work where little man was utterly adored then had lunch with two of my friends - walked there and back but it's horrible, cold and wet! Little man has been happily playing on his mat for an hour so I have had a chill out which has been lovely!

That sucks daddyfunch, particularly with all the preperation that goes into getting there in the first place, hopefully next time will be plain sailing.

We had water babies today and bb (babyloo's new name-never liked babyloo it's too twee) did 3 underwater swims not really swimming just me dragging him underwater and he wasn't very impressed, doesn't help that he keeps his mouth open in the pool trying to drink it!

Re careers I really need to change my job, partly because I've been doing it too long so there is no challenge anymore and partly because its sucking the life out of me and has been for a while, also may well be out of a job in 2015 due to government changes being implemented. So with all that in mind and because I've been thinking about it for a while I'm going to a train to teach roadshow in a couple of weeks and I've been doing loads of research-this has all come about because I've been helping my god daughter with her homework which I love and she said 'you should be a teacher' and I thought 'yes I should!' I know there are a couple of teachers on here so I may be asking if I can pm you as I get further along the process - if you don't mind of course!

Thanks funch Secondary hopefully-I've got a degree in English and European literature and Sociology so would hopefully be an English teacher, I'm going to observe some classes at a secondary and a sixth form in the next couple of weeks.

susie going to do some observations is a great idea. I have to admit the PGCE isn't easy, especially if like me you do it quite a while after your first degree! It's really hard to get back into the habit of writing essays!!
However the job is fab and very rewarding. Yes there are days where you are bogged down with marking and planning and when ofsted are in you don't sleep for a week! There are some times when you have kids being mean, this is my 3rd year teaching and I've cried once over a child (who was violent towards me when I was pregnant) which is pretty good when I talk to my other PGCE friends!! I teach secondary science btw and feel free to pm if you want any advice although others here are probably more experienced than me

We've had a lovely afternoon watching chick flicks and baby larle has just dropped off to sleep on my lap without rocking or feeding, very impressed as it wasn't intentional.

Thank you larle, I'm hoping to apply to do schools direct because we just couldn't afford for me not to have a salary-the timing is tricky because I would need to see if I could take voluntary redundancy and then would need to be accepted by a school-I'm aiming to hopefully start September 2014 or even 2015-lots of ifs and buts and I may also feel its not for me after being in an actual classroom!!

You will soon work out whether it is for you if you observe some lessons but I would say try at least three schools as they are all soooo different, even if they look similar on paper. English is a lot of marking BUT you get to know your pupils really really well as you see them about four lessons per week. (Bitter once a week RE and Citizenship teacher here, though I also teach history, geography, Latin, and classics where I get the honour of 2-3 lessons per week!)

Babyfunch fast asleep since 7 as usual and we started a 10:30 dream feed a couple of nights ago which has moved her first feed from 12:30ish to 2:30ish which is good. I am on bottle duty tonight (bm sadly doesn't get the concept of extra feeds at weekends) so need to stay up for a bit longer. DH happily asleep on the sofa having done a seriously long day.

What are everyone's Mother's Day plans? We are going out for lunch just us three I think, then seeing PIL and SIL. I feel so grown up being a mum on Mother's Day lol

Hardly keeping eyes open, made so many mistakes that I have had to go back and check so night all!!

Mother's Day will be a difficult day for me. This year it falls on MIL's birthday, which is a few days after mine. She passed away when I was pregnant with Stitch. We were very close and DH is still devastated. We will be meeting with his family at her house to commemorate her birthday.

I saw my own mum today instead, which was nice, cooked dinner for dm, db and dsd.

Larle I qualified as a secondary science teacher too, although I have diversified since then.
