A brand spanking new thread for midnight ramblings, chocolate covered pretzels and so much more Grin

OP posts:
HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 18/11/2012 10:21

Morning all,

I'm in shock, babylump slept through from 1am to 8.30 this morning! Grin woke up with cannonball boobs but small price to pay for 7 hours blissful sleep. Yay for minipop too Grin there is light at the end of the tunnel for all of us!

Totally get what you mean about the worry and the overwhelming love, its so powerful isn't it sometimes takes my breath away. funch I struggle with seeing danger everywhere too ever since DD1 was born. I remember when she was about 8 weeks old and it had snowed I was carrying her in her car seat to the car, strapped her in then went to walk to my side and I slipped on some ice and did a comedy huge leap into the air landing flat on my back (hurt like hell!). She was safely in the car but for some reason my brain wouldn't let it go and in the end I had to pull over on the way home as I had a panic attack at the thought of what would have happened had I been holding her at the time. [unhinged madwoman emoticon]. It's not really got any better tbh, I agree you just have to try to ignore the 'voices' suggesting scary things in order to get on with your life but its horrible :( How anyone could ever harm such previous little things is totally beyond me.

smich I'd say if you are happy co sleeping then carry on, anything that helps you sleep is not a bad thing! Enjoy the snuggles and the sleep, it goes too quickly.

Pmsl at blonder's teenage son snortling in arms Grin

goat and babylon haven't seen you for a few days hope that means there's good sleep going on!

Welcome and congratulations sea, how are you finding it all? Do you have any other DCs?

blonderthanred · 18/11/2012 10:40

Heffalumps that is great. I promised myself I wouldn't wish away any time with DS but it is nice to think of one day getting more than 3 hrs sleep in a row.

We totally failed to settle DS in bednest, tried loads of ways of transferring him but he wasn't having it. Proper screaming. If he is a little bunged up that could be why. He is also a bit even more farty than usual, maybe because of the antibiotic I am having to take for a tooth abscess?

I am too scared to co-sleep but may have to look into techniques/positions so if it gets to that point we can do it as safely as possible. He was asleep on my chest and I dozed off at one point but we were both upright so hard to slip without noticing.

I definitely need to get myself a Ewan I think!

Ameybee · 18/11/2012 15:51

Mrsn - thought of something else I do with ds in day - he loves watching me dry my hair! No idea why! But he's hypnotised so I keep dryer downstairs and sit him in bouncy chair whilst I do it! We've had a successful lunch out & he's still snoozing but my boob is about to explode so might have to wake him post dessert! Been nice spending some quality time with DD in park too! X

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 18/11/2012 17:57

amey DD1 used to love watching me straighten my hair when she was tiny. My straighteners used to make a funny hissy squeaky noise no idea if it was that or maybe because they were black against my hair which is blonde but whatever it was she'd be mesmerised! Doesn't seem to have same effect on DD2 though!

Smallgreenone · 18/11/2012 18:19

Sorry did I not reply someone else asked if buggyfit was good smicha and thought I'd replied but perhaps I meant to and then didnt- I do that a lot! Yes it was really good and I'm going to go again this week. Makes me feel less guilty about all the naughty food I can't seem to keep away from!
Baby small has had seriously bad napping issues today so we've done bedtime a bit earlier than normal. Usually when this happens we get an awful night so am bracing myself Sad
Also round two of injections tomorrow so am feeling bad for him already poor little fella.

Smicha · 18/11/2012 19:23

Sorry small! Being sleep deprived I appear to have missed your previous post on buggyfit, thanks for the double recommendation Grin I will aim to go along on Tuesday.

MummyV18 · 18/11/2012 19:31

Evening all,

We had an awful night last night baby J was up all hours.

Who was it that said they were moving fully onto formula? How are you getting on?

Bit miffed today as I bought 2 second hand baby gates & they don't fit our doors Sad maybe its my own fault for not measuring doors 1st but I just figured that doors were a standard width & therefore baby gates would be a standard size too.

I'm kind of glad you have all mentioned about overwhelming love & irrational thoughts. I thought I was going crazy (well crazier than I already am)

Fingers crossed for good nights tonight Smile

MrsNPattz · 18/11/2012 19:42

Thanks for thinking of me amey - I don't use a hair dryer but maybe I should start Grin

We have an overtired little man tonight - he is currently asleep on my chest without having a bath or changed into pyjamas yet! We have had a few visitors today and he has hardly slept so no wonder. Not sure what this means for tonight!

Hope we all have good ones!

blonderthanred · 18/11/2012 20:52

So I dozed off while sitting in an armchair earlier, did a couple of prize snorts to DH's amusement. He sent me off for a nap so I went up to bed but as soon as I lay down, I was wide awake, could not drop off and felt like crying.

Have I caught my baby's sleeping habits?!

MiniPopsMum2012 · 18/11/2012 21:29

Well, the good run didn't last, was up a lot last night after posting, and I think MiniPop is coming down with another cold as he's not slept much today

Ameyb to get three nights where I got good chunks of sleep was amazing, but it's been a long time coming.. not sure it will last, but I'll take what I can get Grin

Blond Minipop is 25 weeks actual age, but is a premmie and was born 10 weeks early, so 15 weeks corrected age. I have a Ewan, too, and was sceptical about how good it would work on MIniPop as I only got it about a month ago, but it does the trick.

Susieloo the nearest Starbucks to me is a 30 min walk away now, so I've decided to make that at least a weekly event as I've got to train for the London Marathon so am having to get some walks in when I can't run. I haven't had the salted caramel latte yet, but that's on my to-do list! :) HOpe you enjoyed your roast.

Small it's taken a long while to get to this stage, so there is hope, but I don't t hink it's going to be a regular thing (as last night prove), bless him! I might try buggy fit next week t hen, thanks for the info. Oooh Heston's mince pie, I do like a mince pie. I probably shouldn't as I've got 17lbs to lose to get back to pre pg weight Blush Confused Fingers crossed for a better night, and good luck for injections tomorrow.

Oh MRsN hope you're doing ok, I still get emotional now, despite being 25 weeks in. It was world prematurity day yesterday and the Bliss video made me cry a lot! We've also had a busy day without much sleep, so much so I had to delay bedtime so he could have a sleep before bedtime

Smicha that's cool aboout your DS's toys Grin

Yay Heffalump for the sleep, fingers crossed for some more on the horizon for you (boobs allowing!)

Sorry you had a rubbish night MummyV hope it will be better tonight.

Apologies to anyone I've missed, I've only gone back two pages, hello to everyone new and here is hoping for a good night all round.

:) Thanks

Ameybee · 18/11/2012 21:30

This happened to me recently blond I was awake till 430am one night! The more stressed I got, the more I couldn't sleep - so frustrating! It did pass tho, I think your body clock just gets totally out of sync! Xx

MrsNPattz · 18/11/2012 21:57

Thanks mini - that was a very good name check! Your little man must be doing so well after being born premature but it must have brought back some memories yesterday. Sorry you had a bad night after your good run - they like to lead us into a false sense of security don't they!

I wish I liked coffee as a salted caramel latte sounds Devine but no matter how many times I try I still hate it Hmm wonder if they would do it as a hot choc??

Are you all up in arms about X factor? It's so funny how clogged up Facebook gets with irate people! I'm team Rylan!! But it is a shame Ella has gone.

v sorry you had a bad night - fingers crossed for tonight.

Really hope goat is ok - not like her not to post.

Ameybee · 18/11/2012 22:09

Well we stuck to gina fords nap times today (the only think in the book that seems remotely sensible) but DS appears to not agree with any form of bedtime as is still awake chattering happily in cot?!? I feel guilty! We moved the times forward so he should've been ready for bed at 830 but noooo! She doesn't have a section on what to do if they refuse to confirm :)!

Ameybee · 18/11/2012 22:10

Conform even - tiredness! X

blonderthanred · 18/11/2012 22:19

Wow, ten weeks MiniPops. It must have been a scary time. How wonderful that he is doing so well now. I did see that it was World Prematurity Day and was thinking about all the babies that come early.

DS has been sparko most of the evening but same old story, he will not be put down. Good feeds at 7pm & 9pm but no manic cluster feeding. No idea what the night holds but I'm trying not to stress after my mini non-nap meltdown earlier.

I have ordered a Ewan!

MrsNPattz · 18/11/2012 22:22

I don't think you will regret the Ewan blonder!

Attempting transfer...........

funchum8am · 18/11/2012 22:41

Ooh we are back to lots of posts! Great to hear some little ones are sleeping so well! Do we need to design a ceremony for graduation from the thread? Eg your baby sleeps through for 7 nights on the trot so you have to down a salted caramel latte and a shot of amaretto followed by a packet of pretzel flipz and an iced mince pie, then hum a Ewan tune while juggling your baby and your phone or iPad or whatever you use to post on here!

Modification suggestions to hone the ceremony welco

funchum8am · 18/11/2012 22:59

Oops sorry for double post. I might start buggyfit on Tuesday...not sure how well I will do after the kind of sleep I get but I can't make excuses not to exercise forever! I have about 20lb to lose to get to pre pregnancy weight, and another 11lb beyond that to get to my goal weight (and that again is lower than my really ideal weight but I am resigned to never reaching that again and have been for a while!)

Sorry not to namecheck, things have moved so fast and my phone only shows a tiny bit of the thread at a time when I type a reply!

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 18/11/2012 23:53

funch I like the sound of the graduation ceremony Grin

I have to ask though, what on earth is a salted latte?! Is it actual salt in coffee? I'm very boring, its cappuccino for me every time, although in the summer cafe Nero do a gorgeous frappe latte

Babylump has slept pretty much all day, we went to a really lovely farmers & Christmas market which DD1 loved causing havoc at and baby was brilliant just snoozed away all wrapped up in her Moby. Paying for it now though as I'm exhausted and she's refusing to stay asleep more than a few minutes :(

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 18/11/2012 23:55

Oh and minipopsmum I am Shock that you can even think about running a marathon at the moment, that's seriously impressive stuff! Have you done it before?

missingmymarbles · 19/11/2012 00:06

I'm the same about coffee, MrsN, but salted caramel sounds divine in a hot chocolateSmile

Grin at Funchum's graduation ceremony!

I really should have come to bed earlier, but have been writing loooong overdue thank you cards. Hopefully Missmarbles will stay asleep for at least another hour, then feed efficiently (for first feed) and go back to sleep til morningGrin

Goatbongosanonymous · 19/11/2012 00:20

Greetings everyone and so sorry to be so neglectful of you all! You have all been busy here, and it looks like there have been good and bad nights, all a bit lucky dip! I would love to say that we have not posted because we have been sleeping through, but that would be an outrageous fib Smile
However, we have moved onwards and upwards a step, I feel. I hit such a wall of exhaustion a few nights ago that I didn't know how I was going to get through the next ten minutes, let alone a whole night, let alone the NEXT 18 YEARS!! (Can you tell that the over-the-top melodrama of extreme sleep deprivation had hit?)
Anyway, I decided that enough was enough, and Kid would now be sleeping next to me, not on me. He managed the night after his jabs, so he could go on managing. Well. I made a nice little net for him and popped him in it. Cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth, flailing of legs, demands to be fed, demands to be not fed, attempts at chat and aerobics.
And that was just me, you shoulda seen Kid Grin
But we are getting there. Last night we even made it to 8:30 which is unheard of! It really helped my haze of exhaustion to recede. Tonight is not so good, but I think he has a cold coming on, plus his tummy seems unsettled again, so there are reasons...
I am Aldo a bit more laid back again as PILs babysat for the day and DH and I escaped. We had a roast dinner in our favourite country pub and a lovely long walk. The sun was glorious.
I shall read back and catch up with everyone properly. Just noticed minipop mentioning World Prematurity Day yesterday, Lots of activity on Facebook for that too. The official logo was a line of nine full-term size white baby socks on a washing line, surrounding one purple prem sock. That alone was enough to make me sob in my current state!
And vicky we are now on formula only, but as you can see, Kid has yet to realise that his sleep patterns are meant to improve correspondingly!
Hope everyone is getting lots if lovely sleep, or if awake feeding, that it is brisk and filled with lots of yummy things for mum too!

Goatbongosanonymous · 19/11/2012 00:21

That's a nest, not a net - we are not up to hammocks yet!

Honkyponk · 19/11/2012 00:25

Hello there! I'm new to mumsnet and have had more than a few chortles scrolling down this thread over the past couple of nights. Little lady is giving the illusion of sleeping in my arms after chomping through boob number two, but no doubt her eyes will ping open the second I try my bum shuffle to the edge of the bed attempting transfer. Back to the bouncing up and down on the ball with her. what the neighbours think to the squeaking floorboards I don't know!
