Welcome all to a shiny new thread for moral support during night feeds, general food envy and chit chat Grin

MummyVicky18 · 02/11/2012 02:25

Well !!!! I've just had 3.5hrs of sleep Grin it seems like a miracle lol
It's a step in the right direction.

Anyone heard/ think much to that wonder week theory? According to it we are just coming out of a bad period and should start to see baby's sunnier side. I've not paid to much attention to it what with being do tired but if I do start to see an improvement in baby J then I'll definitely start looking at it more to guide me through the ups & downs.

Susieloo · 02/11/2012 02:27

Too tired to postSmile

MummyVicky18 · 02/11/2012 02:30

Oh dear susie hope you get back to sleep soon.
Hope you are all managing to sleep a little.
I must admit I feel quite 'refreshed' after 3.5 lol after all this time of 1.5's 3.5 feels like I've had a full night lol

Smallgreenone · 02/11/2012 02:32

Amazing how our perception of sleep changes! On used to think I 'needed' 8 hours a night!!! Why have 8 when 3 will do?!

pommesdeterreetfromageblanc · 02/11/2012 02:33

my 10 days old baby has been asleep since 10.30 and I am now ready for her with the expressed milk.... shall I wake her?

funchum8am · 02/11/2012 02:40

I got an hour's sleep after my last post, then another 25 mins....am very Envy of vicky and 3.5 hours!

pommes not sure what to suggest, I don't think you will do any harm either way. How did you get your baby to take a bottle? I am working on that this week.

pommesdeterreetfromageblanc · 02/11/2012 02:44

I am struggling with BF, it hurts a lot. I started giving her expressed milk a couple of days ago and she seems fine with it so far.... I think she needs a change now... that should wake her... poor bunny :(

NervousAt20 · 02/11/2012 03:01

ponnes I was wondering the exact same thing as you, my LO had her last feed at 10:30 and normall gets up between 2 and 2 and a half hours but tonight went 4. My HV told me not to let her go more then 3 so I panicked but she seems happy enough

NervousAt20 · 02/11/2012 03:02

pommes* sorry Blush one handed typing on a damn iPhone at 3am is a hard job itself

Goatbongosanonymous · 02/11/2012 03:05

Wow I must be tired - I brought choc biscuits up during the last feed and forgot to eat them!!

small we mix the gaviscon with 10 ml of milk in a small bottle and give it to him before the feed. We still have teeny bottles and teats from the NNU. It helps that Kid is used to bottles (we mix feed) plus he only takes half a sachet at a time because of low weight. Apparently the stuff tastes horrible so we ignore the directions tomix with the whole feed!

Vicky congrats on the 3.5 hours. It is amazing how that feels like a feast of sleep, isn't it?! I tell my DH that I got four hours in a night and he is like this Shock and I am like this Grin

pommes. Welcome and sorry to hear that the bf is painful at the moment. It should improve soon. (and I promise that that initial agony is one of the design flaws about having a newborn that I am going to fix when I rule the world - another of course being the need for so many nighttime feeds...)

funch and susie Sad about lack of sleep. Really hope this gets better soon. Sending sleepy nice your way.

Kid is, I think, asleep beside me. Does anyone else's LO keep up a running vocal commentary while out for the count?!

MrsNPattz · 02/11/2012 03:05

First feed here after taking aaaaages to settle at bed time! I think we are maybe trying to put him down too early and should maybe relax a little? As soon as he falls asleep after bath time we are trying to put him down so by 11 even though its not that late we have been trying for hours! I'm so hoping he won't do his wide awake truck at this feed.......

TeaandHobnobs · 02/11/2012 03:06

DS is waking every two hours with screaming Sad The teething gel doesn't seem to be helping so he always wants to feed - I assume to soothe the pain rather than being that hungry? Confused

I had my wisdom tooth out 12 hours ago, so I told him I'm in more pain than he is! I don't think he cares though...

Gro egg is blue again, stupid cold bedroom. I'm in a great mood, aren't I?

MrsNPattz · 02/11/2012 03:14

Aw tea poor you - with the wisdom teeth and the crying baby! Hope things get easier and the teeth - or non teeth - aren't giving you too much gip!

NervousAt20 · 02/11/2012 03:21

tea sounds like your having an awful night, wisdom teeth are horrendous on their own let alone without an upset baby too! Hope your LO settles for you soon and you manage to get some good sleep

missingmymarbles · 02/11/2012 03:53

Zzzzzzzz

MummyVicky18 · 02/11/2012 04:15

funch I celebrated too soon as I'm now up an hour later Sad but at least I've had some sleep

tea have you tried the teething granules? I have found they to be more effective. If baby j seems in pain with it then I give him a dose of calpol then the teething granules.
I found that teething gel ever seems to go on well

funchum8am · 02/11/2012 04:17

tea you are a hero managing a baby when you've had a tooth out....respect (though we have no choice really but to get on with it, no matter what else is going on....these babies need feeding!)

Babyfunch managed an hour this time which is actually good going for us. Not actually feeling too bad now considering how little sleep I have had.

I managed to express 3oz of milk before bed so will try again with the bottle tomorrow (or rather, DH and/or my DM will.

Happy sleeps to one and all....

Ameybee · 02/11/2012 04:37

Horrendous night here! Seen every hour since 9! God knows what's up :( feeding only thing that seems to get him to drift back off but he's not doing that properly! I'm SO tired now :(. DD also woke up screaming so DH in with her now. MIL coming Tomo whilst DD at nursery so just going to hand DS over & go to bed! HV told me today I look knackered - err hello tell me something I don't know! Sob! X

funchum8am · 02/11/2012 04:44

Poor you amey it is so hard coping with the bad nights. Mine only seems to sleep after feeding but is often too tired to feed properly so doesn't take much, then wakes up hungry after five minutes. It's driving me mad! Sending you sleepy dust!

TurquoiseCat · 02/11/2012 04:54

Argh. Had to get BabyCat up after an hour of almost crying. Turns out almost crying means she will almost feed. Trying to get some damn food in her Angry.

This is after spending 1 and 3/4 hours trying to settle her after her after her dream feed (is it a dream feed when they've not slept before?) only for DH to settle her in 10 minutes bastard. And this is after I spent all pm in town buying nice things for her Sad.

Welcome pommes - is your LO's latch okay? BFing hurt like hell for a while when BabyCat had a lazy latch (looked completely right but didn't have enough of a mouthful). Does your nipple stay round and pink during feeding?

mrsn we use a dummy here. She doesn't fall asleep with it, but it does quieten her. We use the Philips avent ones as the teat is not too massive.

I other news, I'm wearing some pjs that actually fit now from primark (baby weight arse Blush), DH has been bought a naff beautiful Christmas jumper and I have ordered an electric breast pump. Moo Grin.

Sending sleepy dust all around (and some teething dust for both tea's LO AND tea!).

MummyVicky18 · 02/11/2012 05:04

A dream feed is when you feed them when they are asleep ( I think)

Sounds like a lot of awful nights out there Sad hope you all manage some sleep.
I wonder if it would be any easier if we knew when it would get better like ' babies WILL sleep through at X months old' ?

funchum8am · 02/11/2012 05:54

Up again. DH owes me as he has barely stirred all night and usually takes over about 4.30 ie takes her after a feed so I can get some proper sleep. He hasn't woken up to offer today!

I do think we would find it easier if there was a fixed age when they slept through, yes indeedy!

Ameybee · 02/11/2012 06:00

Would we need to officially retire from this thread when they slept through? I'm up again! This has been the longest night in history! Don't think I can cope with another one like this, not without plenty of day sleep. My brother, his wife and 2 kids are staying next weekend and I'm kinda dreading it, I have to go to bed when he does his first stretch otherwise I get no sleep! Just gonna have to go n say sorry but its tough! Currently feeding again as have no idea what else to f
Do! X

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 02/11/2012 06:08

Oh gosh tea hope you feel better soon tooth pain is the worst even without a LO to look after.

We've been up since 5, didn't make it to bed last night babylump slept in her cocoon while I snoozed on the sofa next to her. I am mightily cheered by my DM coming downstairs just after 5 because she couldn't sleep. Funny again how it's just the company that makes things better, it didn't seem half so bad being up so early with someone to talk to. Lovely mum is now making us scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast so I'm a much happier bunny than yesterday :)

Sorry there's been lots of bad nights again, I know we can't tell exactly when it will get better but it definitely will! I've found this time to be much less difficult as I look at DD1 who was a terrible sleeper as a tiny baby but has slept through roughly from around 8 months, and now at 2yo will happily go to bed at 7 and sleep til 6. It reminds me that the tiny baby stage is fleeting and sleep is not lost forever, we will get it back!

MrsNPattz · 02/11/2012 07:07

Sorry for all the horrible nights. We actually had a much better night although I don't mean to rub it in. Got a stupid eyebrow headache though and drinking waters not shifting it so paracetamol for me.

I hope everyone gets lots of naps today, I have a friend coming this afternoon so will try for a morning one.
