babylon we have one but haven't used it - do you put it in with them? Does it stay on or do you have to keep pressing it? Thanks!

Goatbongosanonynous · 07/10/2012 10:45

I'm afraid I lurked last night... A constant round of screaming, puking, flailing and attempts at kamikaze leaps out of my arms (Kid) and a resulting mini meltdown (Goat) kept my hands rather busy between midnight and 6:30 this morning. He is now angelically asleep on my chest.
techno sorry you had a bad night. I hope you are catching up a bit on rest and recuperation today for yourself.
Hooray for minipop and I hope the extra sleep means he is well on the mend.
Smicha I panicked when DH went back to work but actually found it easier to get into a routine of sorts. And the evenings are great when he comes home and takes over for a while!
Everyone with can-only-sleep-on-mum babies, welcome to the club...
Babylon I collect sheep so you have given me an excuse to buy another one!
Hello to everyone else, sorry am a bit behind all the news as well as hazybrained.

Susieloo · 07/10/2012 11:33

I haven't got a ewan but I have got a projector thing and in the last week I've been using the heartbeat sound to settle babyloo and it seems to be working quite well, it's also a sound that I can leave on and just about sleep throughGrin

funchum8am · 07/10/2012 12:07

Thanks for the reassurance about choking - I am sure having a mother trying to cope with no sleep is way more dangerous anyway!
DH took over at 6 and I slept til 9 so feeling more human now.
And my milk has come in so hopefully babyfunch will go at least a bit longer between feeds now. PILs are here and being very helpful so between feeds I get to have a cuppa and coo on about baby which is lovely.

Tooodlepip · 07/10/2012 15:44

Hi

Sorry have been lurking mostly, middle of the night lurking

techno, is little duck crying a lot, I missed alot I know he has been feeding hourly I remember that you said you felt like a zombie, I hope the gp can shed some light for you. My second screamed non stop for 4 months its soul destroying Sad sending you a hug

I also had to send lilpip down to dh this morning Heff, I was up until 5 last night so really I didn't go to bed until then, I don't know why my 4 week old mostly feeds great then at other times, seems to lose the nipple a lot and gulps in air and then is in pain from loads of wind?? any clues anyone?? I also have to do the holding upright for ages but it seems like a cycle and it went on for ages last night

Hello to everyone new, I've been lurking so much it probably seems like I'm new, suppose I kind of am Grin, smicha I know that nervous feeling re dh paternity leave, I'm trying not to think about it, mine going back to work abroad meaning I'll be on my own with my other two children and my 4 week old. Hopefully it goes smoothly and we all just get into good routines re baby, I'll still panic quite a bit until then Smile

anyway hope everyone getting some sleep Smile

missingmymarbles · 07/10/2012 20:29

Also been lurking, more than posting. Feeling desperate for decent sleep tonight. Missmarbles did really well last night til snot got the better if her at about 4. Then we struggled. She ended up in bed with us. She has not been 100% today and slept for and hour at 4-5 Hmm She woke up in a much better mood which is great but didn't feel like settling in her darkened room at 8. So I gave up and feeding downstairs in front of tv. Typically she us sleeping now.
Hi to newbies and congrats in babies. Sorry not to scroll and name names, on phone and wrecked. Hope you all sleep well Smile

technoduck · 07/10/2012 21:00

Right I'm back and I'm not giving up! I can bloody well do this even if it nearly kills me! Its only sleep!

Susieloo · 07/10/2012 22:21

Babyloo been asleep for 2 hours and I've just got into bed so hoping for two hours at least, 3 or 4 would be amazing but I don't think it's going to happen!! Hope everyone has a good night and sending sleepy dust and sleepy mice to allSmile

HeffalumpsAndGoldenWoozles · 07/10/2012 23:27

Hi all, night shift starting again. I've been really lucky I went for a nap after DD1 went to bed at 7 and DH had baby lump and didn't wake until 11 when she needed feeding :) sat up in bed now waiting for her to settle, she's been windy today so trying to keep upright for a little while in the hope she'll stay comfortable and asleep.

Well done techno, after all its only sleep Wink You can get through it :)

Goatbongosanonynous · 08/10/2012 00:11

Yes, Techno, only sleep, and after all our DC don't always seem to need much of it! Smile (Kid currently doing Elvis impressions - uh huh, uh huh)

Was it someone on this thread that suggested ominously that the babies are comparing notes? I'm afraid I think there may be something in this, what with themes such as Moses baskets and alternating good and bad nights. I'm thinking something like the Starlight Barking (sequel to 101 Dalmations for those with proper taste in hooks!).
So I hope the Barking tonight is about Sleepy mice Smile

funchum8am · 08/10/2012 01:21

Similar situation here heffalumps - babyfunch slept on DH from 5 til 9 while I had a proper kip. I fed her and she's slept again from 10-now. I am going to feed her when she wakes and then make another attempt to get her to sleep in the basket. I think we will go buy a cot this week as otherwise we have nowhere for her to sleep if she really isn't having any of the basket! I don't want to get into a long term scenario where DH sleeps separately so she and I can have the bed.

Have also come to the realisation today that my bladder isn't what it was and I need to do some serious pelvic floor work. Luckily it can be done while feeding!

Goatbongosanonynous · 08/10/2012 01:46

Second feed already...

missingmymarbles · 08/10/2012 01:53

Yes Goat, I believe the babies do have a starlight bark going on GrinHmm
First feed going on. Praying she settles for longer than 2 hours from now though, and isn't overcome by snot around 4.
Have a bit if a funny tummy, and typically DH away for 1 nights from tomorrow. Hope that doesn't came to anything...

missingmymarbles · 08/10/2012 02:03

DH away for 2 nights, not 1;that would be better. I guess it isn't long, it's just the thought of it: trying to sort DD1 for school, nurse DD2 and not be too far from the looSad

Smallgreenone · 08/10/2012 02:56

Aaaargh! Very alert awake baby! Go to sleep pleaaaaaaase............

MiniPopsMum2012 · 08/10/2012 03:05

So so so so tired. Minipop has a cold and I am catching the cold, just need sleeeeeeeep.

DMP been asleep most of the day, poor mite & I have been trying to de snot him when he is awake, had to wake him for last feed of day & we have 6 minutes left before I can put him back down afterwards 2am feed.

Hope you're all doing ok. Xxxx

MrsNPattz · 08/10/2012 03:08

Just got 3 hours thanks to Ewan the dream sheep!! Grin thanks babylon

Smicha · 08/10/2012 03:09

Hello all! First night feed here after 4 hours sleep. Mini smich has been informed that he is amazing for sleeping that long and that I'd like him to continue this habit...of course he may not understand, but I feel it's good to start praising good behaviour early Smile

DH is sleeping in the spare room as he wants to be fresh for his return to work. I feel really sad about it and hope it doesbt become a permanent week night thing, although if the roles were reversed I know I'd probably do the same as I'm useless at work on no sleep!

Looks like mini smich is now bored of feeding... Time to try and settle him again. I've been looking at ewan the dream sheep but in the meantime we've found a hairdryer works really well!! The noise and warm air blown from a distance seem to really calm him! The tip was given to my SIL by a midwife in Germany and it's one of the best pieces of advice we've received so far! Also works on screaming nappy changes too.

Smallgreenone · 08/10/2012 03:19

Is 6 weeks to small for a Ewan dream sheep?

MrsNPattz · 08/10/2012 03:28

small my little boy is only 3 weeks!

missingmymarbles · 08/10/2012 04:08

I need to get me a Ewan the dream sheep!

Susieloo · 08/10/2012 04:17

Can't keep my eyes open

HeffalumpsAndGoldenWoozles · 08/10/2012 04:20

Hooray for all the long stretches of sleep tonight :)

Tell me about the sheep then, what does it do? I have a bit of a sheep collection going on in DD1s room, sounds like I should be adding to it.

funchum I really recommend a bedside crib (or cot if you have the space) we've got the 'Troll' crib from John Lewis and I do really think its contributed to DD2 being so much better than DD1, who was in a Moses basket, was at this age. You can get the benefits of co-sleeping but they still have their own safe area so less of a worry.

Second feed of the night fine here, just waiting for her to drop off properly then I'm hoping for a nice long stretch until morning...
