Litre bottles of readytodrink formula!

I can't believe I didn't know these were now available! I need to work out how much more they cost than faffing with mixing up powder and hot watet, but omg at bloody last.

Thanks formula companies! Finally they are taking responsibility for manufacturing a sterile and safe product rather than making parents deal with the stress and difficulty of making sure milk is made up safely.

Now, DS almost 8mo is shifting from 5 bottles a day to 4 of about 250ml each so these will be perfect. I assume they need to be ditched after 24hrs like the little cartons.

I know I just bought one to send with dd when she stays at Dmums. No fretting about other people making the bottles right!

LadySybildeChocolate · 05/08/2012 22:26

You do know they work out a lot more expensive, right? You're better off sticking to powdered formula.

Figgygal · 05/08/2012 22:27

Is this SMA? They used to do ltr cartons before changing the packaging and strangely they would stay in fridge for 48hrs Confused not sure on new plastic bottles

YoulllWinGoldOneDay · 05/08/2012 22:27

They will be a lot more expensive, but def good for the situation Gnocchi describes. I assume it needs to be ditched after 24 hours, so as long as people realise they shouldn't be used for, say, four consecutive night feeds.

We got some for a holiday recently. Fab. But pricey, yes.

ComeonComeon · 05/08/2012 22:31

I think most brands are doing them now figgy - I use Aptamil and Tesco have the big bottles now.

I know it's more expensive but I hate making up bottles with fucking powder, it feels so like a remnant of a distant age. It's so time consuming and I feel like I'm taking DS' life in my hands every single time I feed him a bottle that I made up in advance - even when scrupulously fast cooled and stored in fridge.

It's definitely excellent for feeding newborns!! About bloody time!!

OddBoots · 05/08/2012 22:48

Mine are long past that stage but I did notice the other day that there are now selling the little bottles with teats they used to do in hospital and I think I saw an advert for ones with teats in bigger sizes too.

SchrodingersMew · 05/08/2012 23:15

I use SMA 500ml ready to drink bottles where you just pop the teat straight on to the bottle but my DS only has 2 bottles a day, I don't think I could justify it if he didn't.

I used to use the HIPP 500ml bottles and not having to use powder is brilliant.

SchrodingersMew · 05/08/2012 23:15

SMA 250ml bottles that should have said...

SailorVie · 06/08/2012 06:38

I use the Cow & Gate 1 litre bottles for feeds at home, south less faff. I used to use the SMA 1 litre cart

SailorVie · 06/08/2012 06:42

Cartons until they recently changed the format to bottles (and put the price up from £2.19 to £2.89!). So now use the Cow & Gate bottles which are £2.69. I cannot wait til my LO moves to the 6+ months milk which is sometimes on special offer. I recently stocked up on the red 250ml bottles of SMA as Sainsburys had them on 1/3 off.

I totally understand if you have to formula feed, but please look at the list of ingredients on the formula packaging and do some research. Demineralised whey and vegetable oil in particular are very unhealthy, synthetic and refined foods. Maybe try making your own formula (look for recipes on the internet).

McPhee · 16/08/2012 15:45
Hmm

OH yes, homemade formula would be so much healthier Hmm. Now, where did I put my powders of vitamins A, Bs 1-12, C, D, E, K, and trace elements. They must be in the cupboard somewhere :)

We all know that formula is synthetic and a poor second to BM but really - suggesting people make their own formula is plain bonkers.

NellyBluth · 16/08/2012 20:30

Hmm at 1789. Kind of hoping they come back and elaborate...

BlackOutTheSun · 16/08/2012 20:37

Haha I've just googled home made formula

Tangointhenight · 16/08/2012 20:41

Seriously? Do you use condensed milk Hmm

OP I would stick to the professionally made stuff.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 16/08/2012 20:47

NellyBluth · 16/08/2012 20:50

How in god's name are any other them healthier than formula milk?!

Tangointhenight · 16/08/2012 20:51

Where would you even buy the ingredients for those recipes!?
