I can't believe I didn't know these were now available! I need to work out how much more they cost than faffing with mixing up powder and hot watet, but omg at bloody last.

Thanks formula companies! Finally they are taking responsibility for manufacturing a sterile and safe product rather than making parents deal with the stress and difficulty of making sure milk is made up safely.

Now, DS almost 8mo is shifting from 5 bottles a day to 4 of about 250ml each so these will be perfect. I assume they need to be ditched after 24hrs like the little cartons.

I didn't buy the pink butterflies for ds4 oh no I did

Shock at the notion that any sane parent would seriously consider making their own formula using some random recipe on the internet. Instead of buying commercial formula that's highly regulated to be as safe as possible for babies.

Incidentally, I've been buying the litre bottles of Cow & Gate, and they say on the back that you can store them in a fridge for up to 48 hours once opened.

Expensive but much less hassle than the powders.

Mrs DV do 'em no harm :o

5madthings · 17/08/2012 23:32

dd has has the avent dummies and won't use any others. i have seen cheap battles in pounded that are cute but don't know if dd would drink from them. tho for a pound it wouldst be a huge loss if she didn't and she and the boys could use them for pretend play!

My dog was a puppy when dc4 was a baby/toddler.
He took a fancy to the teats Hmm
Pound shop bottles were a must or we would have gone bankrupt replacing them!

I would quite like these to send the childminders but he wouldn't go through a litre in 2 days. Will have one 200ml bottle there.

I cant believe people make their own formula! How irresponsible. I stopped breastfeeding DD after 3 days and DS after 6 months. Don't feel guilty at all about either. Did what I thought was best for both my children. DD has had a type of food poisoning that can be caught from raw milk (although that's not where she got it). Trust me it is horrendous and required going to hospital and has had the knock on effect of making her phobic about a lot of food. I would never make my own formula.

OK tango, sorry, when I was doing price per gram comparisons in October, C&G worked out cheapest. Although SMA follow on was consoidereably reduced in Tesco recently so I got a couple of tins of that. DD is 10 months old now, I am not that bothered anymore!

StopEatingThatMud · 18/08/2012 17:48

I've recently started buying dd the cow and gate 1-2yr growing up milk in 1 litre cartons.

Tottally sucked in by the added iron as DD was diagnosed anaemic when ill recently and we struggled to get much food into her whilst she was recovering. Now I just continue to buy it as her weights still on the low side and she drinks double the amount before bed than she would of regular old blue top cows milk, expensive madam! (Not sure why I needed to justify that?!...)

Anyway the growing up milk can be kept in the fridge for 72 hrs once opened which is fab as dd only has 2 bottles a day.

HoopDePoop, interesting about the price of C&G and Aptamil 1 L bottles... I am paranoid about switching as I used to have huge issues about FF feeding DS (trauma that went back to BF and how I eventually failed at it). He seems OK with Aptamil so will keep on using it even though C&G may be identical to it and cheaper (they gave us Aptamil in the hospital and we just went along with it). May try switching once weaning is under way in a few months' time.

When I think about the price of Aptamil 1 L bottle and how much DS has per day, cartons actually seem better value by one pound or so.

sellena · 04/09/2012 00:38

The Aptamil 1 litre bottles are a GOD SEND.
I use them during the day and powder for night feeds ( huge distance between my kitchen and bedroom).

I did the maths...

Powder Version- 900 GRAM TUB
900 grams= 1oz/28 grams
900 grams= 32oz
Cost £3.49

Ready made Formula- 1 litre
1 litre= 35oz
Cost £3.49

You can keep the ready made formula for 48 hours in the fridge. I still do not get why people dont use this version.

ceeveebee · 04/09/2012 00:53

Sellena, not sure I understand your maths?

A 900g tub makes 200 oz of formula as each scoop weighs 4.5g (900 / 4.5 = 200). 200 oz is approx 5.6 litres for £9.49, so thats £1.69 per litre

1 litre of ready made is more than double the cost of powdered.

BikeRunSki · 16/09/2012 08:41

Sellena's maths goes wrong on the assumption that 1oz = 28g With mass it. usually does. With baby milk, the oz referred to are fluid ounces of milk mad by that much powde. A contains 200 scoops which weigh 4.5 litre each. A 900g tub also costs about £9, so 1p per gram, or about £1/litre.
