Litre bottles of readytodrink formula!

I can't believe I didn't know these were now available! I need to work out how much more they cost than faffing with mixing up powder and hot watet, but omg at bloody last.

Thanks formula companies! Finally they are taking responsibility for manufacturing a sterile and safe product rather than making parents deal with the stress and difficulty of making sure milk is made up safely.

Now, DS almost 8mo is shifting from 5 bottles a day to 4 of about 250ml each so these will be perfect. I assume they need to be ditched after 24hrs like the little cartons.

I switched dc4 to hipp when he was about 8 mths (mixed fed). It really upset his tummy.
All mine (cept ds2) bf but introduced ff as back up by 6 months 'just in case'.
Sma gold seemed to suit them all.
Couldn't do ff from birth again. I am far too lazy Grin

Thank you 5!

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 22:46

It's funny because SMA gold would bung DD but hipp didn't, suppose kiddies are like us when it comes to eating, some things bung me up terrible that DH can eat happily :o

I know what you mean Mrs DV it used to be so handy just whipping a boob out, I only got to do it for 6 weeks but then I had to turn to the formula poison :o

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 17/08/2012 22:47

But Hipp comes in smaller boxes! I think gram for gram C&G is cheapest. DH was made redundant when DD was 4 weeks old (just as I stopped BF her!) and I did a lot of sums about formula cost then.

5madthings · 17/08/2012 22:49

my first three were all totally bfed, but with ds4 he was a nightmare feeder, really crap and then i got pnp and had to go into hospital so he was formula fed by 4mths and then with dd i bfed for 3-4mths but she was also a fussy feeder and quite frankly after over 9yrs of bfeeding and 5 pregnancies i wanted my body back! and as ds4 had seemed fine on formula i figured she would be too. i beat myself up terribly for stopping bfeeding ds4 and with dd i get the odd feeling of guilt, but the reality was i had 4 other children to look after and i do feel like i did my bit for bfeeding! 2 fed till over 3yrs old, and i tandem fed ffs, thats more than enough!

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 22:53

bike if you look at the label in asda or tesco it tells you how much it is per kilogram (?) and hipp still works out cheaper even though the boxes are slightly smaller.

Just wish they would put it In a box like aptimil those foil bags are a PITA those I mostly use the ready made stuff now.

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 22:54

5 you definitely did your bit gawd that must have been hard going!!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 17/08/2012 22:55

That's what put me off bloody hipp. I was worried about using knives to smooth off the powder too. Imagining germs!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 17/08/2012 22:55

Second that 5!

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 22:57

I'm not justifying why I ff DS.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 17/08/2012 22:59

I was PBf about dc1 but only bf to 6 mths as that was seen as quite a long time then. Much more relaxed with the others and bf the last two for over a year but felt no way at all about giving them formula as well.
Never had any issues with mixed feeding. Didnt confuse any of them.

My only hatred of ff comes from washing and making up bottles!

And it's all so much more complicated now. I don't know how people do it.
Never considered it the easy option.

5madthings · 17/08/2012 23:00

nobody needs to justify it, but i still feel like i should somehow? meh my 5 are al fine and dd still co-sleeps and snuggles up to have her bedtime bottle, its just the same as a bfeed really. i cant see it has made any difference i mean i KNOW health wise bfeeding is better, but as far as bonding is concerned no difference at all :)

the new hipp cartons have a bit to scrape the spoon on inside the box like other makes btw :)

i just use a clean knife.

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 23:00

hoop you don't need to :)

Yeah the knife thing though apparently you can buy a tin off their website, I did use a knife though I only started using hipp at 6 months so by then I was a bit less uptight about germs though I always scolded the knife with boiling water first.

5madthings · 17/08/2012 23:01

i found it 'easier' in that mine were all fussy bfeeder, got easily distracted and i always had over supply issues. but yes the washing and sterilising and making up bottles is a pita!

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 23:02

*scalded not scolded

Bad knife!! :o

BlackOutTheSun · 17/08/2012 23:02

I stopped bf dd at 4 weeks and don't feel guilty at all

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:03

It really is a pita, isn't it?! I havejust bought the 3 bottles for £1.97 from Tesco to replace the Dr Browns ones, which are anticolic but have about a gazillion parts to wash up; they were slowly driving me mental. I think at 8mo we can safely switch to cheapo bottles!

BlackOutTheSun · 17/08/2012 23:05

Oh the dr brown bottles were a nightmare to clean

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 23:05

hoop you must be my twin, I did exactly the same thing!!!! Did you get the bottles with the nice pink and purple flowers on them?

5madthings · 17/08/2012 23:07

i just used avent bottles, but not the ones with the silly ring that goes in the neck as they always bloody leaked!

dd only has two bottles a day now, morning and evening and i dont sterilse, just wash them up in hot soapy water.

with ds4 i sterilised them til he was about 18mths (rolls eyes) totally paranoid and then one day thought WTF!!

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:14

Tango I thought DS would prefer te blue and green bugs ones Grin but yes

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:15

I will sterilise milk making equipment as long as I'm using powder and premaking bottles and keeping in fridge. Just too many opportunities for bugs to grow.

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:16

Tango did you get the narrow ones? My Teaco ha sold out of the wide neck ones so I got te narrow ones, and it's such a pita to tip the powder from the scoop into he bottle as the neck is sp narrow! Gah.

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:17

Sorry for typos Wine Blush

HoopDePoop · 17/08/2012 23:17

Wine the luxury of the ff-er Grin

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 23:20

hoop so sorry doh!!!! Of course your DS wouldn't want pink butterflies :o

Yes I got the wide neck ones because I wanted to use the doctor browns teats in them, DD is weird in that she doesn't like any other type, only sucks Avent dummies too, but yes the narrow bottles are harder to get the scooper on though they are easier to cart about with you!

I Milton the bottles twice a week with her sippy cups and dummies!
