I can't believe I didn't know these were now available! I need to work out how much more they cost than faffing with mixing up powder and hot watet, but omg at bloody last.

Thanks formula companies! Finally they are taking responsibility for manufacturing a sterile and safe product rather than making parents deal with the stress and difficulty of making sure milk is made up safely.

Now, DS almost 8mo is shifting from 5 bottles a day to 4 of about 250ml each so these will be perfect. I assume they need to be ditched after 24hrs like the little cartons.

Sounds good.

Crushed vitamin pill (leftover Pregnacare will do)
Liquidised turkey twizzler
Chicken nugget
Lucozade to desired quantity

Maybe add some spit for the authentic mother taste?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/08/2012 19:49

BlackOutTheSun · 17/08/2012 19:55

Nah thats too much faffing about, just use a fruit shoot with a berocca in it

The added bonus is that you don't have to bother with washing the bottles! Grin

Very ironic, considering formula was invented for the precise problem that mothers who struggled to breastfeed in the past would make up their own homemade milk substitutes, a practice known as dry nursing (as opposed to wet nursing).

They would throw all kinds of stuff in there and not using the most sanitary methods - usually some mix of cow's milk, flour, water and sugar (great!). The milk was often sour or rancid because of poor food preservation technology so dry nursing led to high infant mortality. That's why when Justus von Liebig came up with the first patented infant formula in 1865, he put it in powdered form to make it easier to stay fresh and transport.

He'd be spinning in his grave if he knew people were going back to making up their own daft milk substitutes at home when there is safe, sterile formula available...
Info here on the history of formula if anyone's interested!

NapaCab · 17/08/2012 20:36

Way to hijack the thread by the way, 1789, with utterly useless, patronising 'advice'. No-one who has ever formula fed their baby will ever have read the ingredients on a box of formula or ever have thought about or tried breastfeeding. You're the first person to ever suggest that bf might be a better choice.

It's totally new information that bf is considered healthier and that formula is artificial. No-one on this thread has ever, ever heard that before so thanks for sharing the public health message that no-one has ever, ever heard before. Ever.

BlackOutTheSun · 17/08/2012 20:39

Thats a great link NapaCab

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 20:40

napa we are just shocking aren't we?? How could we feed our babies this utter crap!?

May as well liquidise McDonald's and stuff it down our babies necks.

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 17/08/2012 20:41

Well 1789's DC will obviously be far, far healthier than my little poisoned, ff runts, but they might be rather narrow minded.

NapaCab · 17/08/2012 20:42

I know, Tango! That's formula feeding parents for you though! Just grabbing any old junk off the supermarket shelf - Red Bull, Pepsi, Baileys, whatever - and pour it down baby's neck, preferably with a propped up bottle while he's strapped into his stroller (oh the horror...)

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 20:48

Oh yes I did find it handy propping the bottle up in the pram, meant I had one hand free to have a benson and hedges menthol my favourite :o

Shocking!!!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 17/08/2012 20:48

I didn't bother reading the labels I though fuck it, I'm not paying a tenner a carton when he can have some red bull.

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 20:50

pickles I didn't give the money for red bull just went for asda's own I think it's called 'charged' DD loves it with a greggs sausage roll especially before bed.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 17/08/2012 20:54

Ooo cheers for the tip! I give him a sausage roll to take to bed, get a better nights kip then.

I give him a six pack on the weekend do I can get me a lie in!

Tangointhenight · 17/08/2012 20:56

Well at least we are not giving them poison ridden formula
