Just thought people might be interested if you don't already know.

Channel 4 on Weds 1 Feb. A programme called Extraordinary Breastfeeding is on. The write up in the magazine I'm looking at says:

"You'll be texting your friends about this as soon as it starts. It's about the phenomenon of mothers who breastfeed their kiddies well beyond the age considered 'normal' in this country. Seeing a feisty mum breastfeed her two-year-old twin isn't that disturbing, but the sequence of another lady suckling her 7 year old dughter isn't one we will forget in a hurry. "

I'm looking forward to seeing the tone it takes.

Oh I see Aloha. You mean in the 'Bitty' sense rather than women MPs enjoy bf-ing their babies.

LucyJu · 24/01/2006 23:04

Shame that it would appear to be a program depicting breastfeeding as 'weird'. Looking forward to seeing it in many ways, but not looking forward to the predictable shock and revulsion likely to be expressed by many in the media.
Funny how many of us (me included) find it weird that a 10 year old would wish to breastfeed, but find nothing strange in the fact that even adult humans are happy to drink the milk designed for the offspring of another species.
And anyway, why do we never see programs about the undesirable aspects of feeding a child infant formula?

Yes, in the wearing tights with an orange up their bum sort of way Spidermama

Aloha · 24/01/2006 23:06

And male ones obviously!

I would think it strange if said ten year old were regularly bf-ing. Stranger still that she would be prepared to appear on telly to talk about it or that her mum would let her.

BUT, presumably she has younger, perhaps baby, brothers and sisters so a little bit of regression, as part of play, isn't so weird really. My ds2 (who's now nearly 6) sometimes affects a baby voice for a while which - though irritating - is an understandable reaction to the arrival of his latest brother.

A programme about 'undesirable aspects of infant formula'??? LMAO!!!

Get a grip!

Spidermama · 24/01/2006 23:09

Why not GDG? She has a point.

hunkermunker · 24/01/2006 23:10

Why get a grip, GDG? Formula's been recalled for having potentially fatal bacteria in it in various countries, including this one, for instance.

I bet other animals would drink 'the milk of other species' if they were capable of running farms and milking the blooming things! They cheerfully eat the bodies of other species.
My old cat used to drink cows milk quite happily.

hunkermunker · 24/01/2006 23:11

Tried our cat on EBM once. Turned his nose up at it. Fussy little blighter. Wouldn't latch on properly either. And those claws - eek!

Spidermama · 24/01/2006 23:13

Yuk! Other mammal's milk. Spew!
We'd be disgusted at the prospect of dogs milk in our tea, or mouse milk. It's only because we're used to cow milk. It still makes me squirm. I drink it purely to get the coffee down but I have to blank out what I'm doing in order to do it.

Next time, Spider, spike your coffee w/Bailey's Irish Cream.

Spidermama · 24/01/2006 23:14

Rice milk, oat milk, hemp milk ... all horrible in coffee.

PMSL at the thought of mouse milking!

hunkermunker · 24/01/2006 23:15

Coffee horrible, IMO.

hunkermunker · 24/01/2006 23:16

Isn't weasel milk the closest to human milk (one in the eye for SMA, eh?!)?

expatinscotland · 24/01/2006 23:16

Bailey's, I'm tellin' ya.

Spidermama · 24/01/2006 23:19

Or the Baileys rip off Lidl do which is called Queen Margo, classily enough.

I wish I hated coffee. But I love it, and it's a love which will destroy me I know.

expatinscotland · 24/01/2006 23:20

I was wondering if the Lidl rip off was any good. Not that it matters after a few cups .

Aloha · 24/01/2006 23:21

Yeah, like you are really interested in the quality!

Spidermama · 24/01/2006 23:21

I have it on extremely high authority (desperatehousewife) that it is rather good. It goes without saying it's much cheaper, but only tastes slightly cheaper.
