Does this sound like your baby?

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

If so - join the club! :)

Button - I know your DS is a bit younger than mine, but I've borrowed a friends Ikea antilop and it's great. Only £15 too! He seems OK in it too.

Queen how long have you been doing BLW? We've just started, but we're not ready for proper meals yet. We've tried toast, steamed apple, roast sweet potato so far (sorry thread hi-jack). I have found though that I can put him in his high chair in the kitchen with a piece of toast and I can tidy kitchen/ get lunch etc. it's a new tool in my parenting box (the other ones being boobs and toys with flashing lights).

DH and I are having Xmas lunch on our own (plus DS of course) and as I said on the BLW thread I have this romantic vision of the three of us sat around the dining room table together for christmas lunch. The vision doesn't include picking parsnips off the floor a hundred times and in it DS definitely isn't screaming...
I had many romantic ideas of motherhood when I was pregnant. Most of them are now dashed Xmas Grin

Hoping you're all having a good day. DS is asleep on me as I type. Had planned to write Xmas cards but forgot to grab a pen before I sat down!

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 12/12/2011 16:06

Well DS was 6mo yesterday, and we've been doing it for a couple of weeks. Was trying to hold out for 6 months but got sick of him trying to grab everything ate or drank. I started him off unintentionally, DSIL was giving her DD some falafel for lunch and asked me if DS wanted some. I said ok because I didn't think he'd eat it. He shoved it in his mouth so fast, I thought he must be ready! Since then he's been on three meals a day (although I don't stress if I miss a meal). Favourites are anything on toast, cucumber (think it's cooling on the gums), tomato and spag bol! I try to make baby friendly family meals so it's cheaper - have the river cottage baby and toddler cook book, which is quite good for ideas.

TitaniaP · 12/12/2011 16:13

Queen - DS is 6 months this week, but he's also been grabbing at everything, he even tipped my drink over me yesterday as I wasn't paying attention! I'm impressed with Nandos after only 2 weeks!

Well we went to the Osteo his morning and DS has been asleep on my lap since 2pm - hence much mumsnetting! I only hope it doesnt harm his sleep tonight!

Thought we could all do with a hug - so here you go -
Parents give yourself a big hug this Christmas, NOBODY'S Perfect!

buttonmoon78 · 12/12/2011 16:22

DS is only 5m and not even remotely sitting up! Hence wanting something which reclines a bit. He loves the bumbo but his thighs are too chunky it's getting a bit snug Grin And his bouncy chair is almost horizontal now, as he's such a lump.

My friend had the Ikea one but it broke. She got another one and it broke again. Being as we don't live at all near an Ikea, I can't be bothered to keep going back if the same thing happens to me!

TitaniaP · 12/12/2011 16:37

button - sounds like an excellant reason not to get one. i only got one, as a friend lent (and then sold) me hers. I couldnt have faced a trip to ikea with a screaming DS, however cheap they are. Im suprised he likes it to be honest normally he hates anything that restrains him. The bumbo (like the pushchair and the car seat) is just another implement of torture!

SpannerPants · 12/12/2011 16:51

we've had a good afternoon - met my postnatal group in a coffee shop and DS was an angel, had a feed without getting distracted and flashing my norks to all and sundry then fell asleep in my arms! I even managed to get him into the pushchair without waking him up (then walked round a garden centre for an hour to make sure he had a good nap and bought glittery tat for Christmas Grin )

He's had a major screaming fit since we got home but I feel better for getting out of the house.

I'm planning on giving him some carrot sticks to play with while we have Christmas dinner, we've got the in-laws coming over and MIL has been asking for the last 3 months if we've started him on rusks yet so she's probably not expecting to get half chewed carrot thrown at her - oh well! We're taking part in the EAT study so can't give him any dairy/gluten/fish/nuts until the middle of January but I'm not in a hurry to start weaning, much as I long for more sleep I don't like that my baby is growing up so quickly :(

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 12/12/2011 16:54

Yup, he's a greedy little beast! Jut gave him a bit of my chicken in nandos, with some garlic bread and a couple of chips.Blush Got a few Hmm looks but oh well. Not sure how much he eats. Everything gets shoved in his mouth but a lot comes out again and on to the floor. I enjoy playing 'spot the foodstuff' in his nappy though! Kiwi is the easiest.

Mampig · 12/12/2011 17:04

Ds very keen on food too!! I find I have to help him tho as he can get a bit frustrated when it comes back out!! So he gets mushed up dinner and some finger foods. Mess is not the word! I too play spot the food!!!

tickleme63 · 12/12/2011 21:08
Grin
organiccarrotcake · 12/12/2011 21:42

LOL tickle

Huh, DS2 (18m for those who've forgotten) loves chips. Don't know if I've ever had a Hmm look with him eating them in public coz I totally ignore them (and anyway if they Hmm at chips, watch them when I start breastfeeding him Grin.)

Just a reminder that meat is a fab first food as it's the iron and zinc that they start to need between 6 and 12 months, nothing else really (other than maybe a bit of VitD). It's mostly just learning about tastes, textures and how to manipulate foods. Often if given the choice a bub will choose meat over veg or even fruit as they seem to know what they need. Mine sucked it until he got teeth so was obv getting some of the goodness from it.

And even if you don't agree with this you've got to try it at Christmas just for the apoplectic fit it will give the mother in law Grin Grin (and evil cackle).

TitaniaP · 12/12/2011 22:24

Occ - I've been wondering about meat. We're having beef for Xmas lunch I was going to give him a strip to play with. It'll be filet though so he'd better bloody like it!

I love my Cranial Osteo. We went this morning and then we had 3 hour nap today and he spent 45 mins sat peacefully in his highchair while I cleaned the kitchen and cooked dinner. I thought aliens had abducted him and replaced him with one that looked the same but without the scream module installed.

buttonmoon78 · 12/12/2011 22:25

I had a 'fnar' moment at OCC going hatless too! Well, I'm off to bed. Think ds is entering a growth spurt. He's had his average daily amoutn of milk already tonight and has at least another one feed to go before I start counting again!

He also is teething I think. Over the past 10 days we've had several occasions where he's been very flushed and grotty - but then helped by paracetamol. I can't feel the bottom or top middle but his canines seem very pronounced. It's an awful long time since any of the others were teething - is that normal or is DS destined to be a vampire?!

So, just scoffing a mince pie made by dd2 before I hit the sack. Night all.

Mampig · 12/12/2011 23:00

Teeth!! Don't bloody talk to me about teeth!! Ds has been teething forever!!!! I can feel the eye teeth under the gums, no bottom teeth yet. Seems to be taking forever!! Now, really not looking forward to bf with teeth, but really need a break from constant grizzly baby Smile

organiccarrotcake · 12/12/2011 23:14

amber teething necklace

fraktious · 13/12/2011 01:04

Aargh. 1,5 hour wakeup in the early hours following dirty nappy, leaky wet nappy, fussing, wanting to play, teeth(?)...

Why does he do this when DH needs the sleep?! And why won't DH just shift out to the spare room?

And he was so good today, too Sad

buttonmoon78 · 13/12/2011 06:45

Tell you dh he's being a martyr and then ignore it! If there's a solution and he won't use it then it's his problem not yours Smile

We too had a difficult night. He woke at 9.15 and guzzled 7oz (only the second time ever) before falling back to sleep. Great, I thought. Oh no, DS had other ideas. Up again at 12.30, drinking like he's never been fed before! And then up again at 2.30 after which he never really settled, but cried every 10 mins or so. I can doze through some of that but I'm really conscious that living in a modern, cost efficient, easy to heat house really means that the walls are made of baking paper so my neighbour can hear everything. I am convinced that's why they're efficient - it means that if both next door neighbours have their heating on (not an unusual event!) we don't have to bother!

He always lies through his teeth and says he hears nothing but I'm not convinced as I can hear him cough! Mind you, he 's got twin boys so I guess he might be a bit sympathetic, and they're only 8 so recent enough to still remember sleepless nights Wink

tickleme63 · 13/12/2011 09:02

Hmmm... The cranial osteopath we're using asked us when we were planning to introduce solids (6 months at least) and said we shouldn't give him meat until 1 year because his digestive system won't be ready for it. Assume it's safe to file that under 'bollocks' as well then, OCC?

Mampig · 13/12/2011 09:13

OCC- haven't been good at using it tho- make more of an effort today. Smile.

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 13/12/2011 15:14

Just got fatty DS weighed - he's nearly 21lb. HV did say it would be good to see his weight gain 'level off'. Confused He's a big fatty.

buttonmoon78 · 13/12/2011 16:24

Ignore ignore Grin He's just perfect. How can you engineer a bf baby's weight levelling off?!

Got my fatty weighed this morning. He's 17lb 14oz. And no one says a word despite being ff! He's almost always consistently put on 6-8oz for the last few months, despite being pukey and not eating as much as 'they' recommend.

Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 13/12/2011 16:47

Thanks buttonmoon, am not too worried as I'm sure he is growth spurting at the moment (lots of milk and more wakings than normal). Gave up on my HV a while ago Hmm.

JeewizzJen · 13/12/2011 20:04

Wow, think my DS must be small, he's only 15lb11oz! Not that its an issue or anything. Xmas Smile

Well we had a reasonable night last night and a really good day today. We managed 3.5 hours of xmas shopping! DS was good as gold in the sling, only complaining when he was hungry which is fair enough! He napped for about 30 mins too. He was all smiles and cuteness pretty much all day! I really enjoyed spending the day with him Xmas Smile

Lets hope he doesn't go ruin it all with a shit night!!

How's everyone's day been?

Mampig · 13/12/2011 20:36

First half day back at work: done!! Am exhausted now though. Ds needed held all day by cmHmm (welcome to my world!). Only took 1 bottle whole time I was away, but had some fruit purée so not so bad. Didn't get time to express so I was sooo ready to feed him when I got homeGrin. All in all, not too bad, but I really missed him and 2 yo dd. She really missed me too- suppose she was happy to have me at home too- kinda forgot that somehowConfused.

Not had ds weighed recently, but he has gotten a bit tubby recently!! Legs like tree trunksGrin. Really can't wait to go to bed, but have so much to do in the houseAngry

JeewizzJen · 14/12/2011 05:59

Glad it went OK mampig!
