If not would anyone like to join me?

Experienced and first time feeding while pregnant mums welcome. I'm almost 11 weeks with DC2 and am still feeding DS (15 months). We are currently working at night weaning him (although he is incredibly persistent) and he still feeds 3/4/5 time per day, although he is starting to eat more solids.

I don't know anyone in RL who has fed whilst pregnant or tandemed and it would be great to be able to share frustrations etc with others.

So please come and join me, or point me in the direction of the right thread

Hello. Hope everybody's well. And that mbj is enjoying her teeny scrummy baby.

I wanted to ask for advice, kind of a what would you do.

DD is down to one breastfeed a day. At bedtime. And for about the past five nights or so she's just had maybe 4-5 sucks on each side and that's it. She's not asking for the feed and I'm toying with just stopping offering the bedtime feed. It hurts. It feels more teeth than anything else. And I'm just 15 weeks pg so I think it will be ages before I even get collostrum in. And even then I don't k is if the colostrum will entice her to actually feed.

I just really don't know what to do. I would have kept on feeding her through pg if she wanted it. But I just feel she's pretty much weaning herself and I'm flogging a dead horse and it might just be easiest on both of us if I try a different routine which doesn't involve a 'feed' which is sore for me and does nothing for her.

I know nobody can tell me what to do but I would just like some opinions.

Good evening Grin

Things are going well ere at the moment. We got home around 11am after a very long, protracted, beaurocratic discharge.

Our Birth Story:
On Tuesday morning I got up as usual with DS at around 5am, despondent that I was yet again NOT in labour. We watched Thomas the Tank engine for an hour and then as I had planned to go to York for lunch and shopping with my brother and mother, I left DS with my mum and went to have a bath. As I got out of the bath. I has my first contraction. At first I thought it was just a strong BH it it was soon followed by a 2nd and 3rd about 8 minutes apart.

I told DH as I went to wake him and while he took DS for a bath I tried to relax and have a snooze, but couldn'tas I was too excited.

My mum and brother decided to take DS anyway and left at around9ish. dH and I walked to the post office and came back to watch Sideways. All throughout, my contractions were erratic, initially seeming to get closer together, and then tailing off! Until, just before lunch, they stopped. Sad

DH made omelettes with mushrooms and goat's geese, which were delicious. And I suggested we go for a walk. So we walked down to the pub, unexpectedly met MIL on the way there and she and DH had a pint in the autumn sunshine. My interactions were still bloody painful, but erratic and seemed to stop when I stopped walking. I thought we were in for a looooong latent phase.

We returned home and decided to have a nap. We slept for an hour and a half or so, during wich time I was awoken 3/4 times itch painful contractions. We woke when DS returned home with DM and DB at 16H00.

I fed DS, played some Lego with him nd gave him his dinner, but decided to go have a bath as my last three contractions were 5 minutes apart, lasting close to a minute each. While in the bath I had SROM and that's when I knew we had to go. I rang the hospital to tell them we were coming. We got in the car and left . That was 17H30. The hospital is an hour away.

During the drive my contractions wnt from every five to every three minutes and the Bly way I could cope was to vocalise rather loudly, in fact VERY loudly. Like a primal moan Blush

Whe arrived at the hospital and t was a ordeal to walk in an as soon as we got to the assement unit I had he unbearable urge to push. So I pulled ff my jeans and climbed onto the bed on all fours and told hem. This was 18H30

This sent them into a mad panic,, they wheeled us through to the delivery room on the low dependency unit and saidi could go for it. Luckily I heard them talk about jabbing me, so I could say that I wanted a physiological 3rd stage.

Beatrix Anna was born after 5 pushes at 18H47 weighing 7kb14oz. She fed within 30 minutes and the placenta was delivered at 19H20.

It was AMAZING.

Will popinjay again tomorrow

tinky19 · 28/10/2011 09:50

Oh wow, that sounds amazing mbj, I think I'll order one like that Grin
KD0706 I can't advise as I'm in completely the opposite situation at the moment and was going to post for some advice this morning also. But since my DS eats well (only turns his nose up at eggs and my Dad has 50 chickens grrr!) I only feed him on request so, even though I would find it hard, if h didn't ask, I wouldn't give. (he's 19mo now)
My question/ issue is completely the opposite. Having fed once or twice a day over the last months, DS wont leave me alone. He literally claws at my clothes and screams at me to get me boobs out (where ever we are!) This has happened in the last fortnight, since 32 weeks preg.
I just don't know what's got into him?! Has my milk suddenly become more tasty Grin??
I'm concerned a little that he's not going to want to share when dc2 arrives.

AngelDog · 30/10/2011 21:54

Wow, that does sound amazing, MBJ.

(I liked the way you were so calm you could enjoy a tasty lunch! Wink)

TheRealMBJ · 31/10/2011 04:30

It was. Really, really good. The antenatal Yoga must have helped more than I though it did Grin

NinkyNonker · 31/10/2011 07:51

Oh my norks. Sad

Can anyone advise? I'm 14 wks now and have a 15 month daughter who still feeds morning and bedtime. But ouch! My nipples are so sore, not raw but internally sore to the point that I want to cry every time she latches on and for the first minute or so. Is this normal in pregnancy related or is her latch bad now she has lots of big teeth?! They are sore when they touch material etc and seem permanently 'erect'. I don't want to stop feeding her, and if this is preg related it may calm down as time goes on, but ouch!

FutureNannyOgg · 31/10/2011 08:14

Just wanted to check in rather than disappear, I lost my baby last week, so will be bf while not pregnant for a bit.

TheRealMBJ · 31/10/2011 08:24

Am so sorry to hear that Future Sad

Ninky it is quite common to feel some nipple pain in the first trimester, for most it passes around week 14-16 (from what has been said on here).

Have you read Adeventures in Tandem Nursing? It is available on the LLL shop online at a reasonable price and is well worth it.

organiccarrotcake · 31/10/2011 16:58

future I'm so sorry to hear your news :(

KD0706 · 31/10/2011 20:18

Really sorry to hear that future Sad

ninky I'm 16w and my 18mo only feeds once a day, but when she does it is uncomfortable, but no longer toe curling. So hopefully your feeds will get easier soon.

TheRealMBJ · 03/11/2011 12:54

How is everyone doing?

KD0706 · 03/11/2011 16:11

I think you and moon were the lifeblood of this thread, mbj

All fine here. DD seems to have sensed I was about to give up on the bedtime feed and is now gnawing at me for about twenty mins each evening along with all the usual slapping the other boob, sticking her finger in my mouth like a fish hook etc. I've been neglectful of my copy of adventures so no idea whether there's any possibility of there being more milk in there for her. But my boobs do feel more full whereas a couple of weeks ago they were definitely deflated.

I've got a teeny bit of a bump but it's sufficient to mean I can't wear normal jeans, but so teeny that my maternity clothes/clothes one size up are falling off me. So I am often seen sporting a rather attractive looking builders bum above my trousers!!

How are you doing? I'm sure DS and DD are keeping you on your toes.

TheRealMBJ · 03/11/2011 17:18

Things are going well here, DD is feeding well and is (so far) very content. DS is very sweet with her and quiter protective already, but does have fits of of jealous.

KD0706 · 07/11/2011 11:52

Hi. I just thought I'd check in and see how everybody is getting on.

All fine here. DD has renewed interest in her bedtime feed so I'm not going to stop offering it any time soon. I'm 17 weeks now. I may reassess the situation at Christmas but will just see how we go.

Had a chat with DH who had previously thought I needed a rest period between feeding DD and new baby. I sometimes think he doesn't listen to anything I say. So I reiterated to him that many women feed through pregnancy and my doctors are happy for me to continue feeding DD and he seemed happy enough. I think his only concern is if she's dependant on the bf to go to bed at night then it might be harder for him to settle her if/when I'm not around if I have complications or just generally when I'm having the baby.

organiccarrotcake · 09/11/2011 13:11

Hi all, thought I'd drop in.

I'm 15 weeks and think that my supply is dropping :( DS is clearly not swallowing for more than a few minutes - then it's just suckling but no apparent milk transfer. He's upped his solids a lot, too. Seems happy enough but I'm pretty sore and fed up.

I have the same worry about settling, KD. I'm off to the UNICEF baby friendly conference at the end of November, which is two days, and I'm planning to stay over but I can't take DS with me. There isn't a creche, although there is a separate room with a screening of the talks, but I won't be able to focus and take notes and deal with a toddler.

So it will be the first night away from me, and two full days either side...

TheRealMBJ · 09/11/2011 13:56

Hi all.

Adjusting to life with 2 kids.

occ DS seems to settle ok for DH and my mum now when I'm not around (but the first night he spent any from me - when we tried to night wean at 15 months - was a disaster)

How old is your DS now?

SuiGeneris · 10/11/2011 15:30

Congratulations MBJ! What a lovely story and great that it is all going well.

FutureNannyOgg: I am very sorry to hear about it. I hope you are better soon.

KD: we too are down to one bedtime feed and it is uncomfortable one too, but rather lovely too. At Christmas DS will be 23 months and we have a 15 day stretch with my Mother, whom he adores, so we might try and drop the bedtime feed then, but i am already sad at the prospect. On the other hand, we might end up with CS too and I'd rather he did not have the shock of no feeds at the same time as I m away for 3-4 nights...

KD0706 · 12/11/2011 12:37

Hello everybody. Hope you're all well. I'm fairly knackered generally as DH is working away mon-fri so I'm on my own with DD, no family around to help etc. So many people have said to me how I must be full of energy now I'm in second trimester and also that in their (completely personal and uninformed) opinion I won't have another premature baby as I'm at home this time not at work and I can rest when I want. Seemingly nobody has told DD this!! Never mind it's Christmas soon and I'll have DH for a week then my mum for a week so that will be a good break.

I'm trying to gently cut out the bedtime feed, doing a version of don't offer don't refuse. So I try to cuddle her and if she happily just snuggles into me for her bedtime cuddle I stick with that but if she's not so willing to just cuddle I throw a boob in her direction. I am certain she is just dry nursing and because of that she's using her teeth a bit more, doesn't really have a proper latch. She actually is 'just using me for a dummy'!!

Hope your conference goes fine organic. I'm sure DS will settle much more easily than you expect. I'm leaving DD next Saturday might just overnight, she's been left with my mum before twice but this time I'm leaving her with Dh and MIL who I have slightly less confidence in...

KD0706 · 21/11/2011 15:12

Hi all. It's a bit quiet around here without moon and mbj isn't it.

I left DD overnight with DH and MIL and she was totally fine, barely noticed I was away. We are still having a bf most evenings but I think she would happily do without if I wasn't here

HappyCamel · 21/11/2011 23:03

Hi, I've got 7mo DD and am about to start TTC so will hopefully be joining you properly soon. Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll get hold of that. DD feeds 3 times at night and 3 hourly i the daytime and we're BLW. I'm dreading feeding with ms and thenread above about nipple pain too. I'd forgotten about the sore boobs in early pregnancy phase.

Hope to speak again soon.

HC

organiccarrotcake · 21/11/2011 23:12

Funny you say that, KD, as I'm going to try to stay in the spare room tonight (DH is armed with oat milk and a cup) as a test run for me staying overnight in Liverpool on Thursday night for the UNICEF conference...

Hope you join us soon, hapycamel :)

KD0706 · 26/11/2011 18:26

Hi all. Hope the test night went well organic ?

Not much news here except that I have toothache which is miserable. I'm away from home at the mo but home on Monday so intend phoning the dentist then to see when they can see me. I'm concerned there may not be much they can do since I'm pregnant. (can they do x rays? I think I may need a wisdom tooth out and not sure if they'll do that, and not really keen to have it done while I can't take much painkiller. But equally can't go on like this!)

Fingers crossed I just need antibiotics or something simple!
