I had her DVD before I had DS and it did help, but I really only got it established by going along to a couple of NCT breastfeeding groups, and hassling the midwives when I was still in the home-visit stage the week after the birth.

I cannot believe CBC is advocating formula feeding at 3-4 months to help sleeping through the night - not b/c there is anything wring with ff per se. But because it can't surely be possible that in this day and age, that a baby and breastfeeding expert does not understand what happens during the 4-month sleep regression. Shock And the fact the some breastfed babies feed a little less efficiently during the day around this age, as they're so much more developmentally aware (read: nosy) and so pull off to look around. FF babies don't tend to do this, as they face out to feed anyway.

I know this was alluded to on the big weaning thread in news and I couldn't believe it. The answer to both these issues is not in what babies are fed. Angry

My baby has had a formula feed since 3 months and hasn't slept through once! I want my money back (though the formula wasn't to make him sleep, it was for me to sleep).

pussycat5 · 18/01/2011 16:04

No Pussycat5 is NOT CBC !!!! and I'll do whatever I can to make sure my bubs is happy and well nourished be it on the boob or by a bottle/formaula (shock horror is formula so bad? NO). I'm openminded about both and just want to get a head start if I do have problems bfeeding and this woman comes highly recommended. I choose to take this recommendation and I choose to contact her so really not sure why everyone has to put their ten pence worth in here - All I asked for was her number which I now have thanks! I think I might sign out of this website it's starting to annoy me already as I suspected ! Thanks to those who actually just answered the question. Appreciate it!

pussycat - not your fault that this person's name presses some people's buttons (note: I have said nothing critical about CBC here at all - I am aware that some women are indeed helped by her). On a discussion board, you're gonna get discussion, though, whatever you ask about :).

Stick around and you will get used to the (ahem) robustness of conversations here!

Oh bloody hell....I posted my attempt-at-peacemaking post before I read the rubbish about benefit cheques.

I take it back.

That was a silly comment, pussycat...really stupid and not a bit funny.

LtEveDallas · 18/01/2011 16:20

Pussycat, seriously, if you want help with feeding you could do a hell of a lot worse than our very own TikTok, who is over the moon and back again better than CBC.

tiktok · 18/01/2011 16:29

Kind of you, LtEveDallas.

But I'd not be able to see her.

Anyway, I am too busy idling my time away spending my benefit cheque.

Sheesh - way to offend people, eh? Grin

aPixieInMyCaramelLatte · 18/01/2011 16:30

Hehehe. At least I got one giggle today.

I'm sorry but you said she is highly recommended by one friend. There's a damn site more people here who can give far better advise on BF without charging and giving you potentially damaging advise, like giving formula at 4months if baby not sleeping through.

Besides the fact 4month old babies are not supposed to sleep through the night, anyone who doesn't know about the 4month growth spurt/sleep regression shouldn't be calling themselves a BF expert IMO.

lottiejenkins · 18/01/2011 16:32

Pussycat. I have reported to very childish and insensitive last post to MNHQ!!!!!!

Porcelain · 18/01/2011 16:45

How very, very strange. There's a whole load of free BF counsellors available, even if the lines aren't answering now, if you are still expecting there is plenty of time to contact your local NCT, go to a LLL meeting or the like and find a free counsellor who will come to your house/hospital bed and help you out.

OR you could pay a BF counsellor or suitably qualified doula if you really feel the need to part with money.

So why the insistance to go to this one "celebrity" "bf counsellor" who has as much of a reputation for talking unhelpful bullshit as she does for being helpful (if not more)? If you are so keen to get BF started well, why go to someone who is known for giving advice that sabotages successful feeding?

Seems very, very odd to me.

LtEveDallas · 18/01/2011 16:47

Not kind TikTok, just true. You helped me (in another guise) when I was desperate to keep feeding and setting myself up to fail. Thanks to your help (and a couple of others who I dont think post here now) I was able to carry on to 6 mths like I really, really wanted - and all that without needing to 'see' you (or you taking pots of cash off me).

You are rational, sensible and know the current issues/advice. Something CBC does not.

(oooh, can I write 'end of' - I've always wanted to.....)

End of.

NinkyNonker · 18/01/2011 19:05

Wow,with a the info available someone can't see through CBC for what she is a mine of scary misinformation with a great PR. Cause recommending formula is really supportive of breastfeeding. Hmm

When I saw this post I knew what'd happen Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/01/2011 21:07

Ruby, that is just beyond belief. I hadn't heard of CBC before reading this her thread. Now everytime I hear the name Clare Byam Cook will probably be playing in my head Grin
