Hi all

I'm being admitted to hospital for a few weeks and was looking for some books to take with me.

Nothing sad. I like stuff like "this is going to hurt" or a guilty pleasure something naughty and dramatic.

Any recommendations please x

I'm reading Big Little Lies by Lianne Moriarty. I have no idea what's going to happen to who but in a good way.
Not in a confused way whereby I think I've not read properly!

It's got me gripped anyway. I like her books.

Good luck btw x

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. You may find yourself having to read the whole thing in one go.

Fuelledbylatte · 17/03/2024 13:48

American Dirt
Jeanine Cummings

DoYouSmokePaul · 17/03/2024 13:49

Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train had me absolutely gripped.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 17/03/2024 13:49

The Quickening, Tallulah Riley

BigGapMum · 17/03/2024 13:54

American Dirt is a gripping read.

Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train had me absolutely gripped.

I read both of these multiple times. I'm still not sure what makes them so good, but I've struggled to find anything else as good.

CuntRYMusicStar · 17/03/2024 14:02

The detective lola Harris series by Daniel Sellers is brilliant and un-put-down-able. Murder in the Gallowgate and Murder in Lovers' Lane.

They are so well written and suspenseful I couldn't put them down at all! I think a third one is coming out soon.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/03/2024 14:06

American Dirt definitely

Phineyj · 17/03/2024 14:07

Crazy Rich Asians and the two sequels fit the bill!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 17/03/2024 14:08

I can also recommend American Dirt

I read Daisy Jones and the Six in one setting.

Really enjoyed Mrs England recently and I only read it through a recommendation and wouldn’t have usually picked it

ADHDat43 · 17/03/2024 14:09

My book club has just done Notes On An Execution - utterly brilliant. We all loved it and read it quickly. I found it unputdownable and was so absorbed. It's the best writing I've read in years.

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 17/03/2024 14:10

Into the Darkest Corner. A real page turner, very tense.

sazzt · 17/03/2024 14:10

In the blink of an eye - Jo Callaghan. There's a sequel due out in next few days too...

Luckyme2 · 17/03/2024 14:13

Lisa Jewell None of this is True.

newtb · 17/03/2024 14:50

Anything by Jean Christophe Grangé. The originals are in french but most are available in english. Je has his own way of looking at things. The first one I read was about negative near death experiences and I was reading until 2am to find a safe place to stop.

mizu · 17/03/2024 14:58

Oh yes, Elizabeth Haynes books are good. Into the Darkest Corner was a real page turner, read it years ago and remember passing it on to my sister!

Also, Lie with me by Sabine Durrant is great.

user8800 · 17/03/2024 15:02

I was really gripped by ink black heart by Robert Galbraith
Rare that happens for me these days

Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris is very gripping! Also quite scary. I read it in 2 sittings, felt like it was impossible to put it down!

bunnibee · 17/03/2024 15:07

Both by Will Dean,

The Last Passenger, and
The Last Thing to Burn

RonaldMcDonald · 17/03/2024 15:08

I’ve just read all the Slow Horses books - they were excellent. Best of luck in hospital

90yomakeuproom · 17/03/2024 15:08

Another vote for Girl on the Train
