Share your news here. A little drop in. Just have a chat. Anything at all.

A lovely thing happened this morning. A woman behind me in the queue gave me a voucher for £5 off my shopping. She was really insistent, saying she wouldn't use it. She must have noticed, from my basket, that the grand children were arriving at short notice. Lol!

t was just really nice of her. So I'll try and pay something forward today in thanks.

That’s beautiful @EchoNan my news is that I just heard from a client who I had given up on that they are ready to go ahead with the work we pitched for… very much unexpected and so good for the business Smile

Lndnmummy · 21/07/2021 11:52

My news is that my son will change schools in September. I’m over the moon!

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 11:59

@anewdispensation Well done! Woo hoo! I'm really thrilled for you, I hope your business thrives! Flowers

Thanks so much for helping to start off this thread, it makes a change to hear good things.

Good for you! You are a great advocate for your family. I'd love to ask so much about what's happened, who said what, and so on! But privacy and all that Wink. Hope you are doing well today. Does your son have friends at the new school *@Lndnmummy*

( I'm avoiding this ironing here for as long as I can. ha ha)

Thanks guys and for your support last night. Yep happy to share, but I’ll do over PM to avoid the squatters.

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 12:24

What a performance that was last night
Excellent modding though, from where I was. Smile

@Lndnmummy I’m so sorry about last night and pleased your son will start a new school in September. Well done on tirelessly advocating for your family- it is exhausting. I’m always on high alert when I’m out with my DC as I desperately want to protect them from the shit I have experienced

anewdispensation · 21/07/2021 12:39

Thanks @EchoNan I’m so so pleased!

Lndnmummy · 21/07/2021 13:20

Yep, it will be good with a change. I’ve come to realise that diverse doesn’t always mean inclusive. There can be hundreds of black children at a school who experience no racism (although unlikely). But those hundreds don’t negate the one who has been subjected to discrimination. The sticker wasn’t the only reason but there has been so much over the years so it was the final straw. More than anything it’s my job to teach my child to trust his gut. I said to him that’s the only thing that matters. Most people will tell him he is silly, making a fuss, overreacts etc. So you need to develop a strong sense of inner judgement and never doubt it. He said he understood and that his judgement was clear. So we then had to help him to act on his gut feeling. To arm him for the future. To show him that we support him and his view. That we trust his judgement and that he should trust it too. Silly Head teacher when bending over backwards to defend (!!) the sticker said “But Lndnmummy, we always encourage your son, we gave him a gold medal on sports day”.

What?! You GAVE him a medal? When he WON his race?

Sorry @EchoNan not wishing to derail your thread. And you simply can’t do any ironing in this heat.

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 13:40

Not derailing at all, Lndnmummy I thought that we could do with a thread that can wander all over the place as we need it. Whatever, whenever. ( Ironing abandoned, good call)

The leadership of a school makes or breaks it. GAVE a medal.? Grrrr

It's good to teach children to follow their gut feelings like that and have confidence in themselves. Your son has a great Mum. Hug to you.

RedMarauder · 21/07/2021 13:50

@Lndnmummy the thread last night was something else.

I'm glad your son is changing schools and as I suspected yesterday the head would go into full denial mode. Just make sure some of the other parents are aware of what type of head that school has if you bump into them. I know from my own schooling it does make a difference.

I had some random shit a couple of weeks ago with my toddler DD. My DP also gets a lot more than I do. It seems some people, majority of them white, think we have both kidnapped her if we are walking around on our own with her.

Starseeking · 21/07/2021 20:47

I applied for a massive mortgage last week on my own. The bank came back today to let me know that according to their stress testing, the payments could double "if interest rates rise". Hmm

I'm scrabbling around now trying to provide evidence of additional income so that they will approve as much as I need for the house I have had an offer accepted on.

This new single life isn't as easy as it's supposed to be just yet, however I keep going given as soon as I left the house EXDP and I had sold for the last time, I instantly felt lighter and brighter.

Better days are coming.

Starseeking · 21/07/2021 20:49

That is really nice to hear EchoNan, just shows there are some people who do nice things for others out of the goodness of their hearts.

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 21:11

@Starseeking Well done you for moving forward. I hope the best days of your life are to come and that everything comes good with the mortgage. A place of your own will be amazing. Willing you onwards and upwards. Flowers

Maggiethecat · 21/07/2021 21:56

@Starseeking - rooting for you!! Mortgage rates are low now so it’s a good time to get a big loan.

Best wishes to you for your new life Daffodil

Lndnmummy · 21/07/2021 22:46

@Starseeking great news on the house! Good for you!!

Starseeking · 21/07/2021 22:51

Thank you @EchoNan @Maggiethecat @Lndnmummy I haven't got anyone to talk to about this in real life, so it's good to have this space to share on. I'll update as it progresses, and fingers crossed it all comes good Smile

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 23:04

@Starseeking talk here that's what it's for.
I was thinking too about you earlier on. When you get your home sorted, I think you can let a room and if it is under a certain amount it is not taxable. I think it is £7500 a year.

Not sure if that would suit? Maybe a mature student.? Mind you, there are some scary stories on MN about lodgers Grin
Here's a link about it, if it is of interest. Mind you, you might just want the peace of your own company!

Starseeking · 21/07/2021 23:11

Thanks @EchoNan. I have 2 DC under 6 so won't be looking to rent a room.

I will however need to use one of the bedrooms for a nanny/au pair type lady who has worked with DC who have SEN (my youngest has an autism diagnosis). If anyone knows where I can find such a lady, ideally of Black African descent, and mature, please let me know.

Maggiethecat · 21/07/2021 23:25

I’m sure you’ll be getting good mortgage advice but was thinking about interest only deals which may have lower monthly payments/lower stress test? Of course you’d not be paying off capital and not sure if you have to show measures in place for paying off capital eventually especially since it’s your home (unlike for buy to let where it’s not necessary). But may be an option initially until deal ends and you’re in a better position for a repayment deal.

Just a thought but I know you’ll fight to make it work!

You’ve definitely got cheerleaders here!

@EchoNan thank you for your lovely words. Flowers

Sending you some “aggressive” flowers. On the plaster thread @sharonscorona sent me some flowers and we were accused of being aggressive and goady. Yes. Really.
