Seashells, your two friends going into labour on the same day, and you saying there must be something in the air ... I think you might be more right than you think! It's the full moon! Bit hippy trippy, but I've heard there is a swell of labours right on or just after a new moon, and we've just had one! Hm, so maybe there is something in that!
The full moons around our month are September 23rd and October 23rd, btw!

Elsa, think you are getting kerfuddled - my baby hasn't had hiccups - or if they have, I haven't been aware of it. I'm 34+2, really thought I might have experienced it by now!

Sod the 'unMumsnetty' hugs and kisses - I say dish them out! :) My understanding is that it's a pride thing on here to be less mwah mwah hugs hun than a certain other site that is all for hugs, kisses, huns and bubbas, tickers etc! If you need a hug or want to give one, I reckon do it!

lilmiss, really glad your DH has got a new job. What a relief. Well done that man!

DillyDora · 25/08/2010 18:35

Hmm...see, I have had friends recently who've had both elective and emergency cs and been really ok, but one who is still so heartbroken about her labour went. So sad. It just sounds like you had such a hard time Nymph and Jesse....o well, if that's what has to be...

Heh heh I'm with you Abfab on the hugs and kisses!

Re the wax - I needed my legs done sooo badly so got the lot done, and I will go back again before my due date if I can. It just makes me feel better (I'm v v hairy). My lovely waxing lady tells a great story about waxing a woman who was actually in labour with DC 3 or 4, the woman just would not go off to hospital without a wax and she was being so cross that her husband just brought her along to the salon - made me laugh! (Can you imagine, if I posted this on an AIBU thread they would flame me sooooo much Grin)

Tyson86 · 25/08/2010 19:36

Floozie I have not read the article but will google it. :) Also i dont blame your dp being worried about the home birth but i still believe it is worth it, imagine if there are no complications, going to sleep in your own bed without loads of other people around. BLISS! Grin

No stretchmarks as of yet, feel quite tight though so wont be surprised if i do get one soon.

I am trying to think of some nice, non irratating music for when im giving birth but think i would prefer to be watching Lie to me! Grin
Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

lilmissmummy · 25/08/2010 20:07

I'll join in with the hugs and kisses. This is like our own little part of mumsnet so we dont really need to follow their (unwritten) rules do we?

Besides we are pregnant and for me that means I am overly affectionate!

I really need to sort out my bikini line but I have to say that waxing is not at the top of my list! I think I am going with hair removal cream - not sure how tricky that might be though. I think I might get dh to help, pregnancy is so attractive! I dont think I am THAT ladygarden obsessed although I would like to look relatively neat and tidy :)

Saw the midwife today and she said that it was quite normal for the baby to have dropped around now but some dont drop until labour. ds dropped at 32 weeks and dd didnt drop at all.

Also went to the hospital and have been given metformin for my gestational diabetes and was weighed :( measured and poked and prodded. I was in the hospital for 2 and a half hours because they were running late, was very fed up.

xx Grin

lilmissmummy · 25/08/2010 20:11

Oh about that strep infection thing... I am not too worried as I honestly believe that if it was too much of a problem than the nhs would test for it routinely.

I found this interesting

But I do think that as a pregnant woman we should be informed about it as I had never heard about it before.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 25/08/2010 20:39

abfab I'd forgotten the full moon! You're right :) I've heard the same

< pencils in 23rd sept as poss arrival date!>

ILoveGregoryHouse · 25/08/2010 21:08

Just got back from Cornwall. Pissed down with rain all the way. Grrr.

Mil was worried I would do a SamCam and have the baby early. Luckily not! Anyone chosen Florence as a name?

Only a week till we're home to Bahrain. Got a Bluewater trip to do in the meantime. And a few Internet shops. I'll never get on the plane with all the stuff - have bought all of DS3's nappies through to potty training as DD will be in reusables and I don't want to have two sets of nappies to wash. Saved a fortune buying them here - half the price.

Am seriously considering a wax before due date too. Maybe.

lilmiss. What a pain to be hanging around so long.

nymphadora · 25/08/2010 21:08

Posted on SPD sofa earlier but am wondering at what point they give you crutches? Just been to pub 150 yards away and in pain/ limping by the time I arrived. Will need new Physio referral & going to GP on Friday so can get one there if anyone thinks it will help?
Starting to worry about school run as even if I use the car I can't park by the house or school.

OP posts:
ILoveGregoryHouse · 25/08/2010 21:18

nymph I got crutches at 16 weeks with my first bout of spd. I still have them but will be handing them back into nhs soon I hope. You might have to be arsey/hormonal to get them but depends on how nice your physio is.

HappyTangerine · 25/08/2010 21:18

Hello, am just popping over from Oct 09 postnatal as I saw your new thread over there. Wishing you lots of luck and big hugs to those of you suffering. Not long to go now Grin

nymphadora · 25/08/2010 21:57

Hi happy :)

ILGH- the Physio discharged so I need to start again. They won't keep me on the books if I'm not under regular sessions Hmm so if I get referred back again will be week or 2

floozietoozie · 25/08/2010 22:18

Tyson - also, did you see that homebirth thread the other day? Interesting reading. Loads and loads of good experiences, although there is one in there that's pretty sad, but as another poster pointed out, not necessarily the result of the location of the birth but rather the management.

My first day off was pretty good despite the hideous weather. I went along to be a research subject for a psychology PhD student who was looking at women who delayed motherhood, whether by choice or otherwise, until 35 or later. It was an interesting hour and a half talking about being a mother and my experiences, also about relationships with other people. I found it quite therapeutic, because it brought home to me once again how utterly central motherhood is to my life now and, despite the difficulties with DS at the moment, how much it has changed my life for the better. It put this small phase into context.

Nymph - you really are suffering, aren't you. Hope the crutches help if you can get them.

Hermya I imagine my ladygarden was all over the place last time - was the LAST thing on my mind Grin. I'd quite like a wax though as then I could go swimming without worrying about having to shave or pluck beforehand.

ILGH - a schoolfriend of mine called her daughter Florence last November. I'm not keen myself, it's suggests either F Nightingale or The Magic Roundabout to me. The Florence and the Machine reference hasn't entered my consciousness in quite the same way.

Shieldbug well done on the car. I realised the other day we are really, really going to have to get a new one, particularly if I do end up with this double buggy I'm considering (if I can ever find a supplier within 50 miles that stocks it so I can try it out!). I say we are going to need a new car - I'm the only driver so it's going to be down to me. DP is quite happy with the one we've got. Also Tyson, that's another reason for having a home birth - no worrying about getting to the hospital and back (ok, I do have people who could pick us up, and the hospital's not exactly that far, but still. One less thing.)

Ok people, where have you got your nighties/pyjamas from? Are they bfing enabled ones? I want to get on the case.

floozietoozie · 25/08/2010 22:55

Ok, two queries. how many items of baby clothes would you take into hospital with you - two vests, two babygros plus outerwear? Also, when the Bounty people come around, do they usually provide nappies in the baby bag? I can't remember from last time. I'm covering my options here.

nymphadora · 26/08/2010 04:09

I had Florence as a girls name so we have had to start again, don't have s boy one either :(

Floozie-insomnia? Me too. No nighties yet, all I have seen so far are pink & £££ and I won't wear at home So don't want to spend too much. Not thought about baby grows and IME the bounty bags didn't have anything useful except the CB form which you can now get online!

OP posts:
Hermya321 · 26/08/2010 07:33

Floozie I don't know, I was thinking three babygros and the old coming home outfit. I suppose it depends on how long you're staying in for.

Nymph Gosh, you're not having a good time of it at all are you. Could you ask your Doc to give you an urgent referal? My physio just told me to give her a ring if I needed some. Sorry about the insomnia as well, is it LO waking you up. Mine does, he's found a bunch of muscles in my right hand side that he knows if he kicks I'll move.

Two more work days for me and then I'm off on leave for two weeks. I've got all sorts planned, basically I'm treating this as my last stint of freedom. For some reason though the majority of my plans involve scones and cake. Grin

floozietoozie · 26/08/2010 07:48

Nymph, we haven't got a boy's name either. Why are they so much harder? Bad luck with the Camerons stealing your girl's name!

I do remember the Bounty bags being mostly tat but I had a vague memory of getting nappies. Maybe it was just one or two rather than a pack.

Ok TMI alert again, particularly for first thing in the morning, but I seem to have persistent diarrhoea-y type toilets the past few days and am wondering if the iron tablets are to blame. I'm only taking one a day right now tho. Anyone else? I'm slightly anxious as I remember doing lots of pooing in the weeks leading up to ds's birth, although not quite as loose as this.

I have another scan later this morning and we're also going to discuss having steroids again depending on how things are looking. 31 wks tomorrow - ds born equivalent next Tuesday... Nervous!!!!

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 26/08/2010 08:12

Morning all! Was up for 3hrs last night, great, insomnia rocks, especially when it's a head full of worry!

Floozie- yes to both iron tabs and d, I guess it's better than constipation to worsen ye olde piles! I hope your scan goes well :)

Re bounty- I can't remember nappies, but we did need quite a few due to meconium getting them dirty frequently. I think I'll take enough for 24hrs then dh can run home if I'm in for longer!

Pjs- I need new ones to. Probably primark a few sizes to big and a dark colour.

Reminds me- get yellow pages size sanitary towels and lots of them, and breast pads!

nymphadora · 26/08/2010 08:47

hermya that was urgent one last time! Baby wakes me + toilet trips but last night was lot of pain.

OP posts:
DillyDora · 26/08/2010 09:01

Morning all - sorry about the insomnia. My achey hips wake me up, they're a new thing, tried sleeping on top of a spare duvet but no help - bah. Nymph the physio I saw was just giving away the crutches (tho interestingly no one took them, I think because we were in a group maybe?)

Gah - so much to buy still - have no nighties, just some pjs left over from my single days! Bought big knickers yesterday though Grin funny...made it all seem real! Which brand of pads did you get?

Floozie glad you had a good experience with the psych student - I might do some research on Mum stuff when I go back to work.

Elsa123 · 26/08/2010 09:30

Morning all- No Jessebelle this is my first- its just something I'm scared of! Well, we went for the maternity tour yesterday evening, both leaving work early to get there in time. The leaflet stated Tues at 3 + 6pm and Weds at 6pm, no need to book just turn up to reception. Did all that and it turns out that they 'haven't done tours for years'. I was given an out of date leaflet (all fancy glossy thing). Total waste, 2 hours out of our time in rush hour traffic and torrential rain and I'm still clueless about which bit to go to (there's loads of delivery options from the Oxford Spres, MLU on level 7 to a normal MLU on another level to another one etc etc.) I felt pretty upset as its another load of uncertainty and I can't ask my mw on the procedure as she works for a different trust. Great. Will be calling the hospt later.

Nymph and Floozie- sorry about the insomnia- I'm with you. Awake from 0100-about 0300 then disturbed by leg cramps and night sweats despite the cold room. Am shattered today.

I was planning on taking 3 vests, 2 baby gros, a hat and cardigan for the baby's clothes. Oh and nappies of course. Whats this Bounty thing?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 26/08/2010 09:44

I'll be taking 4 or 5 babygros plus the coming home outfit - did I show you? couldn't resist. Plus nappies.

Elsa that's really shit. How on earth can they not have tours of the maternity unit?!

tiredfeet · 26/08/2010 10:45

elsa thats rubbish :( what an absolute waste of your time. Our hospital don't do tours but they make that very clear, and they have a 'virtual tour' which is actually quite helpful. I would be furious though if I had been given a leaflet about tours and then discovered they weren't running any more. That must have caught so many people out!

I went shopping for pyjamas and nighty etc for hospital as I wanted some nice cheapy ones so it won't matter if they're ruined. pyjamas was easy but I couldn't find a nighty anywhere? (I want a dirt cheap nighty really, as its not something I would really ever normally where).

I asked DH if he minded going baby clothes shopping afterwards as well, he looked quite reluctant but then when we got in the shopping he was the one picking up clothes and saying we had to get them as they were so cute Grin.

nymph sorry the Camerons picked your name. We're nearly there with our names choices so I know I had my fingers crossed they wouldn't choose my favourite. Couldn't you use it anyway though? I was thinking about it this morning and actually in not very long at all most people will not really remember what his daughter is called - I know I had forgotten the names of his other children - as they seem pretty good at keeping their children out of the public eye.

floozie I hope your scan goes well this morning, no wonder your a bit nervous but it sounds like they're keeping a very close eye on you which is good Smile

sam12 · 26/08/2010 12:25

Hi all. Can't believe an oven was not top of all your baby lists Wink Must have exhausted myself with all the shopping because I did nothing but sleep yesterday and feel really sick. But feeling ok today.

I can't remember who said what now- but re stretchmarks I have one just above my hip- which gets inspected to see if it has grown everyday! Grin am sure I will be covered before long anyway.

I got two nighties for a fiver in Primark for the birth in dark colours. Didn't want to spend a lot cos I don't normally wear them and if they get too ucky I can just throw them. Also got some pjs from Asda with black bottoms to try and avoid stains and a top with buttons down for bf. Might pack my bag this weekend now.
For the baby I'll be taking three babygros, going home outfit and a snuggly snow suit for on the way home cos it will be cold by Oct.

Floozie hope the scan goes well.

shieldbug · 26/08/2010 12:42

floozie how was the scan? Hope everything is fine.
The hospital list I got tells you to bring 5-10 babygrows. How bizarre, considering if all is ok they can let you out within 24 hours. Do they think I'll be changing sproglet every 2 hours or so? Considering the list runs the length of an A4 sheet, I think I'll take it all with a pinch of salt.

sam12 2 nighties for a fiver sounds great.

I don't know if I've got stretch marks under the bump or not as I can't see, but the rest seems ok. I daren't look in the mirror to check as I'll get upset!

ILGH love the coming home outfit. She's going to look fabulous!

Sympathies to all those suffering with insomnia, spd and other pains. Soon we'll be able to say only a month to go!

RooBear · 26/08/2010 13:12

Afternoon all,

ILGH lovin' that outfit!

sam12 damn you beat my 1 nightie for a fiver in matalan! we didn't buy a oven but have ordered a new fridgefreezer and dishwasher arriving on sun, very excited.

I'm exactly the same piesey 31 wks but 6 wks of work left to go...

I've not got stretchmarks -yet! but am feeling incredibly nausaeus, have to eat every hour at the mo to stop the burning sensation at the back of my throat Sad
