nymph here's a link to the guest house for you: Royalyn

SamanthaB123 · 17/08/2010 10:58

Good morning,

Thank you for all your messages of concern yesterday. I didn't get home until after 9pm and was too tired to post. I don't have any serious underlying medical issue that caused the pain and the baby is fine. I do however have a few 'ailments' that can be problematic in pregnancy - a large ovarian cyst and a fairly large benign cyst on one of my kidneys. Both of these will need surgery after the baby is born (and not at the same time!). I will be monitorted regularly in the meantime and will need to go back should I have any further or more painful pain. I feel ok today, very tired, but very lucky. Had the cyst twisted or busrt it would have meant an emergency section and surgery.

On the upside, I went to my preferred hospital rather than my designated hospital and definately prefer it. The midwives were fab and the facilities much much better. It was clean too. I was in the delivery suite in a room with a shared bathroom with the room next door. The lady in there was seriously in labour. And seriously loud. It brought it all home a bit to be honest. DH had not ever heard anything like that before.

Anyway, too lazy to name check today, sorry, I will try much harder later. I hope that you are all having good days and that everyone is well and comfy, SB x

shieldbug · 17/08/2010 11:15

SamanthaB It's good news that the baby is fine and that you didn't need any surgery. Hope the cysts continue to behave themselves until the baby is born. So glad you're ok. It's scary to think it's not that long until we'll be in labour (I like to think I won't be seriously loud, but who am I kidding? I'll be screaming with the best of them!).

Roo Happy birthday! Hope you get lots of lovely cake and pressies!

RooBear · 17/08/2010 12:04

Hi everyone, thanks for the Birthday messages! Not got many presents as everyone is helping out with baby stuff which is more important, but had a nice cake this morning at work.

Good news sam I can't believe how orgnised you all are, we still need a cot and dresser, pram and car seat. We are going to go to BabiesR Us on bank holiday weekend and hopefully get them all at once! after that I'll start washing and putting clothes away and packing hospital bags. 8 more weeks of work to go.... oh and we went to Norfolk for a week tiredfeet it was great, although I got sunburnt-I was wearing factor 25, how does that work??

nymphadora · 17/08/2010 12:09

Good news (sort of)samB

Hermya - I've got the pregnancy insomnia back at the mo. Makes it so hard to go to work. At least I can 'work from home' today and have a little rest, although they are fitting our new kitchen downstairs, so quite noisy!

AbFabT · 17/08/2010 12:59

Glad you are being looked after, SB. Still not a pleasant thought, surgery, but better than the alternative!

jesse, maybe as it's different this time, it's a boy, like your DD says! :)
I want the baby hiccups! They sound adorable! :)

Happy shopping, Roo. We're also going to BabiesRUs in a couple of weeks to get the final bits and pieces.

Think we're close with deciding about the carseat, but I still just feel it's such a big decision, and I need to make sure I'm doing the right thing! Think we're going for the Stokke one, as it will fit on our pram! IF we go for that, we might get a different colour to the pram, as you can interchange them and use the carseat as a pramseat, so might be nice to have options! :-)

nymphadora · 17/08/2010 13:45

Car seats confuse me. Going with isofixbase for my car but that's my limit.

jessebelle · 17/08/2010 14:37

he he abfab - that's what everybody thinks... Maybe I should find out at the scan this week (although I think I just want it to be a 'healthy baby' until it's a real baby in my arms).

But then my mum also said that I felt completely like I was going to be a boy, as she'd had a boy and girl already and her pregnancy seemed to be much more like her 'boy' one - and I popped out a girl!

Suffering today from a really bad night's sleep. Slept really well at my mum's - just got back from 10 days there (she lives in Sweden) - but sleeping really badly at home since I got back. Partly it's being back at work and thinking of all the things I need to do before my mat leave starts (not long now - 6 september - as my dd starts school then). But I think her beds were softer - never made much difference before but finding I'm tossing and turning and never comfortable at home as if it's too hard. Although I have got a pregnancy cushion at home - I seemed to fare better with jamming myself between two duvets at my mums. hmmmmm.

Car seat wise our first pram was an M&P pramette (which I was really happy with btw, and am only sad that it's just that little bit too battered after being used for far too long to be used again as a newborn pram) - and the car seat that came with it had a special base that stayed in the car & we were really happy with it. We didn't use it to click it into the pram very much but handy to take baby in and out if asleep etc.

We'll probably reuse all the car seats for the next one - but pram wise I've plumped for a second hand bugaboo (it's all i really wanted the first time but the wheels were too wide for our corridor in our old flat) - anyone going for one? I could never afford it new but a friend at work is selling hers to me for £100 so I don't feel I'm being too silly getting it.

jessebelle · 17/08/2010 14:41

ps my posts are turning out to be really long - so sorry!

shieldbug · 17/08/2010 16:01

oh my goodness- I am such an idiot! I just started to dash for my train and managed to get halfway there before I realised that I had misread the time by an hour! I'm now sheepishly seated at my computer again, hoping that no-one notices my premature exit and return! Blush. Pregnabrain strikes again!

Hermya321 · 17/08/2010 16:19

Dilly It was me who bought preloved, what sort are you after?

Shieldbug Gosh, you sound like me at the moment. I'm doing stuff like that all the time.

Sam Glad you're ok.

AbFabT · 17/08/2010 16:24

nymph, well, I am won over with the rear-facing for as long as possible, so that's where we're headed.

I like long posts, jessebelle, keep 'em coming! :)
We're keeping it a surprise til the baby pops out! Think there's quite an even spread here for girl/boys/surprises.

I sleep with several pillows and a luxurious duvet, seem to end up rolled up in various ways. Feeling pretty comfortable still, though would occasionally like to lay on my tummy!

shieldbug, that's funny! Still, better early than late!

DillyDora · 17/08/2010 17:39

Oh Hermya hello lovely ...right ...NappyLady is suggesting either Teddys or Bumbles.... (Bumbles are cheaper new...but dry slower...)Both seem to have poppers and I wanted velcro. She suggests Nappi Nippas to get them to fit snuggly on a new born. Have your preloved ones turned out alright?

Yeah, Jesse I like long posts too.

Right ...off to Ikea for bookcases - what will LO think if he arrives and the books aren't organised, eh?!

Elsa123 · 17/08/2010 18:44

Evening everyone.
Happy Birthday Roobear I hope you have a lovely evening planned.

SamB123 I'm glad you got your medical query resolved. Perhaps if you had a CS they could whip out the cyst at the same time?!

The Stokke Carseat sounds like a good bet for you AbfabT which colours are you looking at?

Welcome Jessebelle!

I've not so much had insomnia Hermya as being woken in the night by wither acid reflux or vivid dreams/nightmares, so sometimes its taking an age to get back to sleep. My belly button is also hurting now and I can't stand to have my tummy being touched.

My poor old spaniel has returned from the vets having been castrated today bless him. I do feel sorry for him, but he was trying it on too much with our other dog! He's done well to keep them for 2.2 years though. He's currently wandering around looking a bit lost. He went for the veterinary nurse apparently when he tried to fit a cone head collar to him. I don't blame him actually, I don't like her either. The other nurses are much nicer and I reckon she loomed menacingly over the top of him and those collars freak him out as it is. So he apparently tried to bite her, but knowing him, it would have been a 'bog off' warning and not nastiness as he does not have a horrible bone in his body.

Our carpets are being fitted upstairs tomorrow- it will be lovely to finally have carpet under foot. Cotbed and matching dresser to be delivered on Thurs.

Has anyone heard from Seashells?

nymphadora · 17/08/2010 19:20

dilly just done our books, Got shelves delivered with the cot. Shelves done, cot still in box Grin

Got new front door today, building lady coming tomorrow to check some stuff regarding the listing so we are getting last couple of plans/jobs in place

Baby v rough agian today thats 2 full days of v lively, could do with some sleep tonight though

Elsa I can just imagine your poor Spaniel looking at you, the bump and your DH and thinking 'why was I castrated, he's the one who gave you puppies'. I'm sorry about your insomia, when do you finish work?

Dilly Yeah my preloved ones turned out fabulous actually, no problems whatsoever with them. For the two parters, I've got a mixture of size one tots bots and little lambs in a variety of fabrics including fleece, microfibre, terry and bamboo and Motherease wraps to go over them. Some of mine have velcro and some have poppers, I do have some nippers so I can pull them tighter when he's little. I've also got a mixture of pockets and all in ones as well. The bumbles are terry which drys a little slower than the microfibre ones. However, if you pop them out overnight on a radiator, airing cuboard or even in the dryer for ten minutes it shouldn't really be an issue. Have you looked at Little Lambs, they're not birth to potty but you can get velcro versions there. Have you looked at any other websites besides nappy lady?

Hermya321 · 17/08/2010 19:41

Also Dilly are you getting liners at all? I've had a feel of the paper liners, I'm not sure I like the feel of them so I'm going to get some fleecy ones that I can just wash with the nappies.

AbFabT · 17/08/2010 20:26

Elsa, well, there are six colour options - we went for green for the pram, so the others are

  • navy blue (it's very dark and looks almost black),
  • red (it's an orangey-red),
  • beige (looks like a silvery-cream-beige to me),
  • purple (gorgeous plummy shade, possibly slightly girlish though)
and - blue (a light silvery-blue).

Think the lighter colours aren't so good as they'd just get grubby, so we're probably looking at the navy, I think. DH has observed that it won't match the bag, but I don't think I really care about that.

I was looking at our stats list and there are loads of ladies who don't post any more. :/ Hope they are all ok. I've seen a few posting elsewhere, but mostly I think they've slunk off MN.

floozietoozie · 17/08/2010 22:50

Hello

Welcome Jessebelle. Keep the long posts coming!

SamB, I hope your cyst stays quiet for you. Mine was hurting a bit this evening. Hope the pain goes/doesn't return.

Hermya in your impressively exhaustive research of nappies, have you ever come across Kushies? My friend is offering me hers (for free I think) so I'm keen to take them up if they are ok.

Elsa and Shieldbug, my DP is rubbish at medical stuff, and for some reason that includes the bump. When I was pg last time, I got really upset that he didn't want to feel the baby kicking or really touch the bump. This time I haven't even thought about it - it's just how he is. I was amazed one time when he voluntarily touched it. I was really wondering how he would deal with the birth, but in the event it was fine. I was worried at his first reaction when I woke him at 1am to tell him my waters had broken and he said: "I can't deal with this now" - not a great start but he was actually very supportive during the labour and when I delivered I was holding on to his hands for support. He kept well away from the business end, but to be honest, he was where I wanted him. He declined the offer of cutting the cord Grin, but afterwards when DS had been whisked off to special care and I had showered and everything, he said afterwards that he cleaned up all the blood in the shower. So not so squeamish after all. He thought the birth was one of the most amazing things ever and also told me I looked sexy and beautiful during labour!! There's hope for them all.

floozietoozie · 17/08/2010 22:54

Jesse I forgot to say, I had a Bugaboo Cameleon for DS, and I loved it. Are you getting the Cameleon or the Bee? I fancy the Bee but I need a double buggy now so it's out of the question sadly.

Hermya321 · 18/08/2010 07:36

Floozie Yeah I've come across them, I haven't seen them in real life. But I've seen people selling them on clothnappytree and they do seem to go, so I assume people do use them without too much bother.

nymphadora · 18/08/2010 08:16

floozie I had kushies last time. I liked them but nothing to compare them too then. I have a bit of a mixture this time & haven't washed my old ones yet to see how they have fared after 10 years in the loft.

Good morning!

Is anyone else having trouble sleeping? Sad Every night now I wake up to go to the loo and then can't get back to sleep. I'm usually awake for a couple of hours but last night I just lay there from 2-5am. I just seem to worry about everything, fairly rational concerns but exagerated in their magnitude. Then of course I am too tired to do much in the day with the girls and am desparate to snooze. I have been trying to not sleep so that I am more tired at night but I am just exhausted and have no energy by 5pm. Is it just me? Sad

Elsa123 · 18/08/2010 08:38

No its not just you. I hope that makes you feel better! I'm just ridiculously uncomfortable. Grrr.
