Thanks Elsa, although I am obviously sorry that you are so uncomforatble. Isn't it draining? I'm shagged out today and it's only 9am. Going to the osteopath to see if she can make me more comfy in the rib area. She has been very good and has resolved a number of other night time pains. Since seeing her I can now turn over without waking up and walk without limping for the first hour. Might be worth a try?

RooBear · 18/08/2010 09:40

morning, I had a really bad sleep last night elsa don't know why just woke up at 3 and couldn't get back to sleep, looks like another productive day at the office.....Grin geeting pram and high chair on monday so its just nursery furniture and nappies to get, getting somewhere now.

shieldbug · 18/08/2010 09:53

hello all!
Sorry to hear about those not sleeping very well. I'm managing ok at the moment, but I had bad dreams last night so didn't wake up feeling on top of the world!
Got another scan today (yippee) to check all is well. Dh can make it this time so I'm excited about him seeing sproglet again. We're then going to do our buggy shopping. We're on a tight budget so I don't think we can afford anything too fancy. There's a sale on at one of our local shops so we'll try that then it's off to good old mothercare!
We've also made progress on the nursery; dh spent last night turning our bed round so we can transfer furniture from our box room into there and make space for a nursery. No cot or anything to go in it yet though!
I'm going through a ridiculously excited about the fact we're going to have a baby stage at the moment..must be hormonal. It's a nice feeling though- beats the stroppy hormones anyday!

jessebelle · 18/08/2010 10:11

floozietoozie - it's a frog! it's pretty old (five years?) but still functions. what i'd really love is a brio pram system (they're scandinavian) but they cost a bomb. my daughter has the toy version and it's better quality than any buggies we've had for real babies!

Impressed with all the knowledge about reusable nappies on this thread - I tried a couple the first time around but I couldn't even figure out how to get it on (can't remember the make) and ended up using the 'nature' disposables. I just don't think I'm organised enough & feel like I'm constantly washing & drying clothes as it is.

Who were the Scandinavians on this thread btw? Am half-Norwegian and quite often look to their way of thinking when it comes to babies etc - brothers and sisters over there who send cool clothes & accessories and suchlike. And sometimes wistfully think of birth centres & childcare options there - we struggle so much more over here in the UK with maternity pay etc. But my partner is English and I can't really imagine myself moving back either (been here since I was 10).

Samantha that is exactly what happens to me - I quite often sleep really badly after going to the loo. Mad dreams & tossing and turning & thinking of stuff.

Went to a 'refresher' course last night. Was at the hospital & the midwife who led it was the one who booked me in there - she's really nice - but we only really covered 'birth'. Could have done with a bit more 'refreshing' on what happens in the few days after, really, rather than actual birth itself which is so unpredictable anyway.

nymphadora · 18/08/2010 10:25

Exhausted-tick
Lazing around not doing anything with dds -tick
Achy hips-tick
Limp-tick
No sleep-tick baby seems to be keeping me up already.dh got a good whack last night off baby and could see limbs moving too which dd2 liked!

Taking ddsto pool soon but sitting & watching ( first time they've gone in without me!) hoping I don't fall asleep & snore !

KSal · 18/08/2010 10:45

I am still here AbFabT just reading and not posting at the moment cos the thread moves so fast!

am 32 weeks today and finishing work at the end of next week, when i plan to start sorting everything out for the new arrival. We already have most of the kit, so it is more a case of doing an inventory of what's in the loft and washing it!

baby is currently lying transverse with its head up under my ribs which is a tad uncomfortable but apart from that all good.

I'm being seen weekly by the consultant at the moment because this is the time that it started to go a bit wrong with my last PG (nothing major just high BP and resulting medication and in-patient monitoring). but so far my BP is staying just below the 'danger' zone. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

so mainly i am writing 'to do' lists and trying to send upside down vibes to the baby!

DillyDora · 18/08/2010 10:50

Hermya thanks re nappies, I think part of the problem is I haven't seen any in real life! All the nappy events seem to be off for the summer which isn't very helpful. I've copied and pasted your info into a separate doc so I don't have to ask for it again Wink

Bleddy SPD wakes me up everytime I turn over but I do go back to sleep. Am seriously considering the osteopath but the one that specialises in SPD is on the other side of the hills from where I live so I'd have 30 mins marching up and down hill to her, then 30 mins back which might undo all the work she does!

Floozie I love the story about your DH! That's amazing Grin

ok, gotta run..work thing...more later
xx

sam12 · 18/08/2010 11:21

I am totally with all those suffering insomnia. I thought it might be with being off work and so not as tired as usual, but this week I have made an effort to keep really busy (was out and about for 12 hours both yesterday and the day before) and still can't sleep and now just feel exhausted. Rant over.

Reading this as reminded me to sort out the nappies.

Elsa123 · 18/08/2010 12:24

SamB123 There is an osteopath less than 100 yards from my house...I may book and appointment! I did go there for reflexology, but I did not like the therapist. She was ery judgemental over me going back to work etc and you don't want someone who's meant to relax you wind you up!

Hermya I'm on leave this week, then I have 3 weeks left before I start maternity leave on 10 Sep. The first week of my mat leave is already booked up busy, but I'm hoping for more of a relaxing time after that.

Floozie your story was heartening- thank you!

AbfabT those colours sound nice and I know what you mean about the light colours. Navy sounds sensible.

Hermya321 · 18/08/2010 16:55

Elsa Thats sort of similar to what I'm doing, I'm on leave the week after next then back for a few weeks then I'm offski!!

Dilly No worries, have you tried Lollypop or Babykind for advisors near you, I'm sure one of them would be happy to give you a demo. Or alternatively you could look for a nappucino near you?

My sadness knows no bounds, I dreamt about changing mats last night. I wasted a perfectly good dream on changing mats. Hmm

In other news, I'm still seem to be bouncing around the Office like a loon on loon tablets. I even had a smile and a cheery wave to the not so nice bloke who I normally hate and glower at behind his back.

Vikks · 18/08/2010 18:37

Sam12, Elsa, SamanthaB, Roo and Nymph I?m sooo with you on the crappy nights sleep. Sleeping has never been a problem for me but the past week it?s been driving me up the wall! I?m getting acid every night, cramps, peeing at least 3 times (which wakes Harry), restless legs, etc.
I?m sleeping with an array of cushions and pillows so every time I want to turn I need to sort them out! Thank god I?m finishing work on Friday and then at least I can stop worrying about ?how tired I?ll be at work if I don?t sleep? Blah! Sorry moan over. Sad

KSal Snap 32 weeks today! I was talking to someone today who gave bith at 35 weeks and I?m thinking ?shit that could happen it?s not unheard of?, only three weeks away! Wink

In other news, Harry?s little bouncing chair has arrived, it?s so cute. DH and I have just been staring at it, not long til he?s in there! Grin
And??..he keeps getting hiccups!

DillyDora · 18/08/2010 19:59

Ta Hermya glad you're a happy chicken!

Toby gets hiccups too Vikks cute....

floozietoozie · 18/08/2010 22:50

I'll join the rubbish sleep gang. Ever since I hit the third trimester in fact. Between the weeing, the restless legs and DS waking with nightmares or whatever, it's been, erm, challenging. Actually he did sleep through last night so I'm hoping for the same tonight. Last night, after the second toilet trip, I ended up in the yoga child position for those who know it, basically on my front, legs up under me lying face down on two pillows, and I actually went to sleep for a while like that!

Shock horror, today in work my ankles swelled up, and they are still a bit swollen. I'm slightly concerned because I have had some headaches this week, but I have put it down to new glasses (not that I wear them much, only last thing in the evening) and/or poor sleep. My colleague was really concerned for me because she had pre-eclampsia in her first pregnancy and her daughter had to be delivered at 33 weeks. I didn't have anything like this last time, but I think my sister did in her second pregnancy too. I had my feet and legs up against the wall earlier and feet are firmly up on the sofa as I type. Anyone else swelling (apart from the belly Grin?

Elsa and Dilly, glad you liked the story.

Jesse the Frog is pretty similar to the Cameleon I think. Hope you like it.

AbFabT · 18/08/2010 23:23

Glad you are still around, KSal! I start getting all concerned when people disappear!

No idea which way my baby is laying. How can you all tell? I feel clueless! And still no hiccups (that I can tell!).

Am luckily sleeping really really well though! Sorry for those that aren't. And I am having the most vivid dreams, it's so bizarre. I went clubbing with Cameron Diaz the other night! Great fun! :)

floozietoozie · 19/08/2010 01:05

I've been to the toilet four times since 11.15 and I can't sleep. Aarrggghh!!!

tiredfeet · 19/08/2010 01:12

poor you floozie, if it makes you feel any better I'm up too, its heartburn troubling me though :( think its my fault for having a snack just before bedtime. Whenever I lie down it is like a river of acid running up my throat. grim. Gaviscon seems to be finally kicking in now though.

making the most of being wide awake in the middle of the night and doing some research into reusable nappies, its been on my to do list for ages but just getting to the point now where other stuff is sorted and I can think about it. It looks so complicated to make decisions, there's so many different kinds! But I have made some progress today and persuaded DH it would be worth trying them, he sounded horrified to begin with but I have been slowly explaining the positives of using them and I think he is almost converted now...

nymphadora · 19/08/2010 06:59

I have been getting swollen ankles too.

Also have major baby brain. Keep forgetting words & sm dependent on dh to do paperwork for house which isn't good

Hermya321 · 19/08/2010 07:28

Morning all!!

I hope you both slept well in the end Floozie and Tiredfeet.

Abfab Your clubbing dream sounds better than my changing mat dream. Hope you had a groovy time!!Smile

Elsa123 · 19/08/2010 08:00

Morning! I dreamt that I was trying to buy my DH and DD (prophecy?!) Easter eggs from Woolworths and it was so real that I had to remind myself when I woke up that it wasn't Easter and Woolworths has closed down!

I think I overdid it yesterday as by the end of the day my bump was really hurting and I kept getting painful lower cramps. I'm going to try and take it easier today.

Right- acid reflux ladies- apples! I cannot stand off the shelf remedies as the tablets get stuck in my teeth and I hate the mouth coating feeling of liquid. There is something in apples that is helpful and the best thing is apparently cider vinegar. A spoonful in a large glass of water before food. The best stuff is the vinegar that has 'mother' in it. Mother is the stringy stuff that looks like gone off gloop. I found out about it a couple of days ago and it really works. Decent apple juice and apples works too and its the right time of year for them!

Sorry to hear about the insomnia Floozie and tiredfeet it more the ridiculously vivid dreams and uncomfort that wakes me.

I hope everyone has good days x x

SamanthaB123 · 19/08/2010 08:09

Morning!

The cider vinegar sounds interesting Elsa. My reflux seems better at the moment but if it returns I'll give it a go!

Hope everyone slept better last night. I wasn't awake for hours but did wake up a lot of times with various aches, pains and what not. I was so exhausted by the end of the day that it must of helped. I'm not sure it's a good long term strategy though!

I know that I'm a bit of an eejit, but I am packing my hospital bag this morning. I thought I would post the list of what I am taking, partly because if I've missed something essential off you will all tell me and partly because I thought you might find it useful. So here it is:

nymphadora · 19/08/2010 08:27

Bag for baby? I haven't even started looking at bags etc yet. I hat having to buy new stuff for hospital. Dressing gown and flip flops I didn't see them?

OP posts:
BackAgain · 19/08/2010 08:40

Like KSal I am still here, trying to keep up. Been busy with DD's birthday and work. Only have a few days to go so working on lots of handover stuff. Am so tired at night I haven't had chance to post.

Sympathies to all those who are having trouble sleeping. I seem to suffer for a few days and then am OK for a bit (touch wood). Like you, floozie my sleep is really affected by DD so if she wakes up, I do and then struggle to get back to sleep afterwards.

SamB123 thank you for the list I have started thinking about the hospital bag but that is as far as I have got so your list is very timely.

Right better get down to work, hope everyone has a good day

ILoveGregoryHouse · 19/08/2010 08:47

Morning all.

Packing to go to Cornwall tomorrow. Really hope the boys behave. We're leaving at 4am to avoid the worst of the traffic. Aaargh.

Must do baby bag when I get back to Bahrain - less than two weeks now. Looking forward to kids going back to school and a nice wee routine again.

SamanthaB123 · 19/08/2010 08:52

Nymph The dressing gown is second from the top! I always have cold feet so am going for socks or slippers rather than flip flops. I actually prefer to be barefoot so if I am overtaken by heat I'll just take them off! This is just my stuff, the baby's bag is already packed Grin. It was much easier doing hers because she isn't wearing or using any of the stuff like I am!!!

Where are you going in Cornwall ILGH? I have spent very many happy days by the cornish sea...{wistfully remininsing (sp?)}. I hope you have a lovely time, I'm a little envious...

KSal · 19/08/2010 09:04

SamanthaB - only thing i can see off the top of my head is stuff for the baby, but guess you are packing a separate bag for that?

vests, sleepsuits, hat, nappies, cotton wool, plus any feeding supplies if you plan to formula feed.

I'm planning to pack mine in a week or two - want it done by 34 weeks but DH is using the actualy bag this weekend :)

AbFab i mainly know how the baby is lying because the midwife tells me. But occasionally i think i can feel the head pushing up under my ribcage because its quite hard. Most of the time i really can't tell and it seems to move around a lot. Even though it seems to be transverse every time the MW checks, the head is on a different side each time, which isn't a small movement!!
