Ah yes Muser that sounds very familiar!

good luck okie and hello cluckykate

Muser · 07/07/2010 08:49

Tuc biscuits are amazing. I feel vaguely human now. Not sure Tuc biscuits and orange juice count as a healthy breakfast though.

Now PESHes, please be sending all good vibes in the direction of gin, who after the good scan got a scary amount of bleeding and should be being rescanned as we speak. Hold on ginbaby.

PerfectDromedary · 07/07/2010 08:57

FFS, Muse. Am now singing "so this is sickness" to the tune of "so this is Christmas". And that earworm isn't leaving me any time soon.

Dry heaves, you say? I'm still at the faintly hungover all the time stage. I can recommend peppermint tea and melon as a way of dealing with this.

Those of you who went for reassurance scans - with apologies, obv, to those who have had to go for early scans - where did you spend your hard-earned cash (at least, if you're in ThatLondon, as anywhere else is not much use to me)? Do you have recommendations that I could use?

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 07/07/2010 09:05

Morning ladies! Sorry I have been quiet - work is still rudely interrupting my ability to hang out here.

Ooh fresh blood Welcome Clucky!

Muse I think dietary requirements are shelved in favour of keeping anything down you can at that stage! Ski & Curly will advise on correct consumption of Burger King onion rings and coke.

Iggs - your bump is magnificent, how do you stay upright? I'm heading that way (though not as petite as you to start off with), now my bump goes round corners about ten mins before I do.

twinks hope the spotting turns out to be nothing, am thinking of you too - when's the next scan (apols for not keeping up).

Boxy - planning v impressive. The sum total of my prep so far has been to buy;
a) one decorative, appliqued cushion
b) ten reuseable nappies (perhaps an optimistic move on my part, but can resell if I can't manage to use them...)
Saturday will be the day when we finally bite the bullet, order the carriage, buy some muslins and clothes and also (crucially) some storage bags so we can transfer the contents of the spare room to the loft in order to store said.

Now, anyone for mimosas and croissants?

Muser · 07/07/2010 09:20

So this is sickness...
And what have you done?
Dry boaks in the morning
Will it ever be done?
Yes this is sickness
I wish it would pass
Whoever called it morning
Needs a kick up the ass.

A merry, merry sickness
And a dry heave or two
Let's hope it's a good sign
And a baybee we'll win.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 07/07/2010 09:53
Muser · 07/07/2010 10:50

Thank you, thank you. I'm here all week. Try the fish.

iggypiggy · 07/07/2010 10:58

muse that was beautiful... and now I have it in my head...

drom most people recommend the fetal medicine centre in harley street for reassurance scans. I had mine in the same building, but with a different doctor, who is also good. I have now had more scans that not, am currently having them each week, which is ott...

Re: sickness, I think everyone seems to have different solutions! But for me it was fruit and water... Nothing else... It was like I was on a detox diet, but without the weight loss...

iggypiggy · 07/07/2010 11:05

vag and silver it is a mega bump isn't it?! I quite like it, but it is big... Yesterday the estimated fetal weight by the scan was 7lb 8oz... So... If it arrives on time it will def be over 8lb by then!

skihorse · 07/07/2010 11:16

Peppermint fucking tea drom? Muser's going in the right direction with litres of OJ & salty snacks. BK Onion rings are indeed brilliant. Skater promised herself she would eat healthily during her pregnancy, but is now I believe a Gregg's Loyalty Card holder. I hope it passes for the both of you.

In light of my experience I'd say have a few bits of clothes ready. I had a few bits, mostly in bigger sizes and I thought I was being really clever waiting for the July sales to buy all my bits & bobs when I was on ML. Of course 'Bert had different ideas and I had one day ML and will not be able to stroll around the shops until all the good stuff is sold. Jailbait had to run out on Monday and buy some newborn stuff as we only actually had one newborn outfit - of course nobody in their right minds buys premmie stuff - but there are no guarantees with these baybees.

Someone was asking about breast pumps. In the hospital I was using the industrial double Meleda (?) one which was really good for getting started because it saved time. However, it quickly became annoying because sitting there clamping two pumps to your chest is a total PITA - who has the time? At home I have the Meleda Spiral which I was surprised to find is also very powerful and has continued the industrial job very nicely - so I can heartily recommend! The hospital was renting out the double pumps btw - so if you don't want to fork out millions of your UK pounds perhaps you can get a rental?

Muser · 07/07/2010 11:23

I made MrM buy me a packet of crisps on the way home last night due to deciding that something salty was what I needed. The thought of peppermint tea is not appealing. I nearly threw up brushing my teeth. Mint is wrong. Sweet stuff is also kind of wrong. Salt is elixir. Not sure about onion rings, oily stuff makes me feel quite ill.

I have not seen iggy's bump and am intrigued by tales of it's size.

skihorse · 07/07/2010 11:32

Muser She's the only PESH ever to be given a seat on the tube.

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 07/07/2010 11:35

i can second the vote for medela pumps. i love my swing. but have managed to break a valve. my cack-handedness more than anything else. replacements are in the post.
I love iggy's bump! Am missing mine already w wee bit.

muser - glad your body is screaming out "i'm pregnant"! FWIW, I never had actual sickness. a few dry boaks and daily throaty breakfast reflux when driving to work. But then, I did not stop eating. was frequently found scoffing shitloads in seconds in pizza hut, frankie & bennys, the staff canteen... anywhere! it was all about the carbs. pizza and baguettee, mmmmm hope you find the right solution for you.

FannyPriceless · 07/07/2010 11:42

muser May I say congrats on the morning sickness? And you know I mean that in the nicest possible way!

I'm with ski. Peppermint tea is useless. You need savoury snacks involving salt, pastry and meat. BK drive through is a god-send. Also try McCoys crisps, sausage rolls, yorkshire pudding and gravy, hot chip butties, and mini pork pies. (I'm actually boaking as I write this list so obviously these needs pass, thank god.) Brushing teeth is the biggest risk time. And watch out for the spontaneous wee gush when vomming. Tip: sit on the loo, hold a bucket - NOT the other way around.

Good news, thank fuck, for Gin on the BESH thread...

rollerbaby · 07/07/2010 11:45

He he Muser all sounding very very familiar - and brilliantly reassuring for you. Be very careful on the fruit front (Iggs what were you thinking??!!) as citrus fruit actually makes me spontaneously vom within minutes. Badly. Something to do with acid. Melon ok though. I just wanted salty stuff the whole time. Here's my list of helpful but not necessarily nutritous food:

Bacon sandwich for breakfast - every day
ready Salted crisps/monster munch
Tuc crackers in bag at all times - do not leave house or head to meeting without food
Cream crackers with butter
McChicken sandwich/mcmuffin/chips/choc milkshake - these were literally LIFESAVERS in the bad weeks. Chicken nuggets were the only things to stop me feeling sick.

I didn't actually throw up that much, just felt horrendously sick all the time. People have commented they rarely saw me without food in hand or gob.

I was a fairly miserable bitch as well, cos feeling sick all the time is knackering. So you may want to tell OH that you will not be cooking or chatting much for the foreseeable weeks. I just wanted bed as soon as I got home. Also lovely mr moo made me toast in bed as soon as I woke up around 6am on the worse weeks as really helped to stop me feeling so bad when I got up. And make sure you digest brekkie before you leave. EAting and then walking very bad. In fact you basically need 4 breakfasts every morning before lunch in my experience.

Drom if you are anywhere in SW London - I went to the Well Woman clinic on Fulham road opp C&W hosp. LOVELY sonographer there and really really great experience. The remainder since 11 weeks have all been NHS.

PerfectDromedary · 07/07/2010 11:46

I wouldn't have thought peppermint tea does owt for the full-on morning sickness, which I am yet to experience. Is just helping with the constant low-level nausea. As is eating everything that's not tied down.

Apart from nuts. Apparently, nuts are the work of the devil, according to my body.

PollyPoo · 07/07/2010 12:14

I ate loads of nuts Drom, cashews in particular (but only ones with salt on). Also ate lots of Halva and fruit, but then I have annoying dietary ishoes (no yeast, sugar or dairy for me) so was limited...

But actually since the ms has passed, all I want is BK. The other night, I finished work at 10 and drove like a deranged loon to get to BK before it shut at 10.30. I was desperate for a whopper, onion rings and fries and nothing else would do. Actually there was no choice - we live in t'sticks and takeaways are few and far between. I got there at 10.20 and the fuckers had locked the door. The lights were still on and I could see people skulking around behind the fryers, pointedly ignoring me. I am ashamed to say I stood there rattling for the doors for at least 10 mins (you know, just to make sure they were actually locked and it wasn't someone's idea of a prank) before giving up. In fact, while I was waiting another 3 or 4 cars pulled up to ask me if they were shut, before driving off looking slightly worried about the mad woman who was almost crying and refusing to leave BK. Bastards.

rollerbaby · 07/07/2010 12:23

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Reminds me of the time I started crying in the street when a publican wouldn't let me use to the loo before he opened one morning...

FannyPriceless · 07/07/2010 12:34

Breast pumps - my personal fave is the ameda lactaline. I used one in hospital when I had my appendix out, then hired one from the NCT, then bought my own. You can safely buy second hand ones on ebay for about £50 because the collection kit is supplied separately brand new. It saved my sanity. I love it.

I quite liked the double pump thing, but would recommend you go 'hands free' for this method. I bought one of these (warning: comedy website images) but I'm thinking of also just cutting holes in an old bra as this would probably work too.

Welcome cluckykate. Another omg ponieeez gal!

polly ,, and !!

Cosmosis · 07/07/2010 12:52

re food during MS, my vote is whatever your body is telling you it wants! I ate constantly, just beacuse that's what seemed to work to keep it at bay. I seem to remember ski and I eating a lot of cheese and crackers!

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/07/2010 13:10

London reassurance scan: I booked with www.TheLondonUltrasoundCentre.co.uk

SkaterGrrrrl · 07/07/2010 13:12

"So this is sickness": I could have done with a bit more sickness TBH. Might not have fed baby a steady diet of gin and malaria tablets for first 2 months...

skihorse · 07/07/2010 13:21

haha polly - now I love you even more!

Cossie Yes, I think cunty was teh same - crackers, salter butter (3mm thick!) and danish blue. Yummy! I also ate constantly - I needed to eat from 4am until midday - after that I was pretty normal again.

I am using the same pump as curly, the Spring - it's just my name recall right now is pretty pathetic.

Fab news for gin!

OkieCokie · 07/07/2010 14:26

Muse Morning sickness feeling = good. I got quite distressed and paranoid when mine seemed to disappear around 9/10 weeks.

I had a very normal anomoly scan today. It is the only time I like to be referred to as "average" which is very reassuring.

Welcome Cluckster!

Another vote here for the women's wellness centre on fulham road, Sharda (which she said is like Prada but with an S) is good and £125.00 and she is a fetal medicine specialist.
