lol @ silversky - well chick, if it's any consolation I bumped in to the very sweet old lady who has the flat closest to the lift and at least 3 other old dears in the building this week who had no idea I'd been pregnant. In fact one of them said "Is he yours?" - of course the correct response would've been "No, they're giving them out with every bottle of Bombay Sapphire between now and Friday".

As far as a changing station goes, we got this: www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/S19861339 - table & storage combo. We've got towels/muslins/nappies/wipes/lotions/potions/thermometer/his medical card all at easily grabbable distance, plus rompers etc. It's plenty big enough to have the bath and his changing mat there. One day post babies it'll just be a book case/desk - or we can even ditch the desk bit. There is no way on G-d's sweet earth I could be changing nappies on the floor right now - but tbh, clear a space on the dining table/kitchen work top/chest of drawers - it doesn't need Stokke stamped on it to accept a baby-bum imprint!

About the head thing, I don't think I was very clear in my explanation. I did mean as fanny suggested, his head facing alternating sides rather than sleeping on his side per se. But as hundreds of thousands of British kids are put to sleep on their backs I shall keep my eyes peeled for the flat-head brigade in years to come! It is funny though how the different countries have different rules. I will have different rules to "switty" who is only 100 miles away and Germany has different rules and that's less than 10 miles!

medee I'm fascinated as to what you mean by "feeling pregnant" - do you mean you've turned in to some uber Earth woman? Or you're gently pulsating with rage?

I fell asleep during The Silence last night. Meh. I really enjoyed Monday night's episode.

What happened to drom? Is she too busy menkulling to post?

SkiHorseWonAWean · 14/07/2010 06:55

boxer please to tell hilarious story of menkul new big horse ownerz? well done obv.

SilverSky · 14/07/2010 08:02

Yay for boxy / sad for boxy !!!!!

ski if I knew I'd get a free baybee with my next bottle of gin I would have gone down that route fo' sho'

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 14/07/2010 09:22

vag your mum is the direct opposite of mine on the changing table debate. She believes in having it with a strong and fervent belief, having done some damage to her back bending over beds and floor with first babies. I have seen them for about 40€ on Ebay, so I figure go for it, unless there is a major space issue in your place (and even then, handy for storage - as others have pointed out). As fanny said, you will not be leaving the baby up there, as everything is within arm's reach anyway. A firm grip on the ankles at all times and what could go wrong ?

Ski how are you coping with the heat? I decided to go back to Blokker today for another fan for the office this time (was hell yesterday) - not one to be had in Hema, Blokker or vandenborre.

Fab news that that the big horse is sold boxy - were you happy with the price in the end? I hope there is some way that you can let the annoying initial buyer who wanted to buy him for half nothing know about the sale. I know nothing about horses, but I'm still fuming for you on that one.

Your little man has a beautiful head and gorgeous hair as far as I can see Okie! But this head discussion is opening my eyes to new risks I didn't even know about... I don't want my baby to be in th eflat head brigade! It sounds terrible!

PerfectDromedary · 14/07/2010 09:42

'lo, Skidaddle. Am lurking. Am very busy at work (mostly busy with trying not to be sick). I'm also a bit superstitious about posting too much at the moment. Just need to get through the next few weeks and get the right outcomes from scans etc. Then will spend hours discussing pregnancy funs.

OkieCokie · 14/07/2010 09:44

Wit Thanks! I think he is fine too. If everyone was bald you would see that it really is vvv common but in some severe cases it makes facial features all look a bit wrong (protruding foreheads etc). You can get these helmet things for them to wear supposedly to reshape the head but there is mixed research on whether these work. I used to get very paranoid about it but I am a bit more chilled now - mainly due to the full head of hair! It certainly has not improved in shape but it is not doing him any harm!

Pleased Box has sold big hoss.

I have come in to work today to find no one here, blinds shut, lights off everything. Wondering if there is something going on that I don't know about

Backinthebox · 14/07/2010 10:36

Amazingly, new horse owners are the first non-menkul people to look at him. Which is why they were sensible enough to know a fooking fantastic horse when it was stood in front of them. Vet was a bit menkul - he turned up an hour late, said almost nothing to me, did the briefest vetting in history (Clucky was there and will verify this!) and then cleared off, still without saying anything. Then he called the buyers and told them he thought that big hrose might have a tumour of some kind on his shoulder. Cue lots of panic from new owners who spent the afternoon researching grey horses and skin tumours and scared themselves silly. As soon as I found out about this I was able to tell them he had a small lump on his shoulder that he got when he had a blackthorn stuck in it earlier this year not a tumour! So the sale was back on again. In the meantime, Lucy Glitters (sidesaddle lady from last month) rang back to say she had noticed he was still for sale and maybe I should take her low offer to get him off my hands! I don't think so.

I was talking to DD this morning and trying to get across to her the idea that he was going, and she said 'oh. When's he coming back?' Boo-hoo-hoo! Off outside to wash him now, so at least he will be clean for the first 2 minutes of them owning him. They are coming at 2pm.

CluckyKate · 14/07/2010 11:10

As Boxy said, vet was extremely quick & made an easy 300 quid from the new owners. Bit strange about the lump as I don't recall him asking about it....or maybe I wasn't listening (la la la).

So bye-bye Bog Hoss - will Mr Box be there with a box of tissues???....if not am happy to sneak away from the office (boss is away) to provide moral support.

CluckyKate · 14/07/2010 11:31

Whoops - meant to say Big Hoss....although Bog Hoss is pretty apt too

iggypiggy · 14/07/2010 12:05

Well done for horse sale boxy I still have never managed to sell one... They have all gone on loan or retired or been passed to a sister and I currently have 2 horses that on paper I own - which is an all time low I think.... I am pathetic...

Got very quiet day here... undecided on what to do...

OkieCokie · 14/07/2010 12:16

Iggy you could lay a baybeee? Just a suggestion.

FannyPriceless · 14/07/2010 12:34

I like the idea of iggs laying a baybee today.

box I think we're all going to miss big hoss. But well done.

MrP went to the doc this morning and got his referral for the snip!

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 14/07/2010 12:58

okes good suggestion! I keep thinking that each day it stays in there makes it even bigger... Smaller must be better for giving birth!

Having said that, I am enjoying this maternity leave thing...

Backinthebox · 14/07/2010 13:00

Mr Box is here, (arguing with DD about whether they are watching Fireman Sam or cricket.) But you are always welcome with offers of moral support!

Iggy if you get baybee laying now you would still have time to nip out to the shops later and get tea in

FP hurray for Mr P's snip. Now you can get back to more important things in life - like whether you should have matching poniez for your kids or whether you could live with non-matching ones.

Cosmosis · 14/07/2010 13:09

Yah iggs lay a baybee please!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 14/07/2010 14:38

Hold your horses Cossie because once iggy's done laying all eyes will turn to you!

organiccarrotcake · 14/07/2010 15:03

Hi everyone. I'm officially going to leave this thread as I just don't have the energy to keep up with two. My iron levels are super-low and was in hospital on Monday with another bleed where I was threatened with transfusion if they went a point or two lower. Meaning that I am now accepting being force-fed black pudding, which apparently has more iron than any other food, and Farleys Rusks which have a good deal of it and isn't so much of a hardship. Plus super-hard iron tablets from docs.

So as many of you are also posting on the other thread (and of course cosmo and iggs will be official grads soon, followed by more of you) I'm going to try to keep up there if possible.

I'm sure I will improve soon but in the meantime Comma is making it all worthwhile as he's just stunningly wonderful and I'm in luuuurve. Birth story on other thread if anyone wants to read one which hopefully isn't too scary.

BTW FWIW I have a changing table that I'd bought for LC and I find it really useful. Certainly not essential (and a chest of drawers top is basically the same but a changing mat is soft to lie them on, and easy to clean). But it's useful storage and much easier on the back.

box great news, if sad news, about big hoss.

Anyone want my hypnobirthing CD and book? Would be happy to pass it on for none of our British Pounds if it could in turn be passed onto another PESH? I don't know if it's any good as I'd planned to use this 3 weeks to get listening to it!

Feedback re nappies. I used sposies with LC to start with (about a month) but we went straight into cloth this time (including in hospital). It's worked really well and YOB says he's pleasantly surprised at how easy it is. It creates one load of washing every 1-2 days and it's so nice, when he poos in a nappy just as it's been changed, to change it immediately without considering the cost.

We find that having a few all in one nappies for overnight is nice, just to speed things up. We're using 2-part nappies otherwise such as Bambinex, which are MAC's, and fit him really nicely, motherease one size which are bulky on him but fold down surprisingly well and sometimes if I think he's due a poo and just want to catch it I just use a motherease popper insert (popper end folded under to double over his willy and to stop the poppers digging into him) or a Bambinex booster just on their own without a nappy, which means less absorbancy but it's not necessary for a poo. It then takes up less space for washing and doubles the nappies I have, essentially, as he doesn't need the boosters in the nappies at the moment. I also am liking my Sandies nappy (I have one bamboo one which is lovely and soft) and I have some Bumbles in newborn size which are nicely fitting but won't last long.

Right, must go and wake up YOB who's gone for a nap before he's driving South for a meeting tomorrow. On my own tonight. eek

FannyPriceless · 14/07/2010 15:15

box Matching ponies? Given that in a few months' time we are moving sarf to Expensiveshire I'm not even sure about one pony, let alone a matching pair! The conversation with estate agents is going to go something like: Let me see Mrs Priceless, so you want a four bedroom detached character home in a pretty rural village, in walking distance to a pub with a decent wine list, ditto highly regarded primary school, oh, and the property should preferrably have 4 or 5 acres attached and be near an extensive bridleway network. And you have how much to spend?

We're going to end up in a two bedroom terrace in an ugly town, aren't we?

rots Sorry you are feeling washed out. Message from your friendly resident scientist: please remember to eat something with Vitamin C in it at the same time as your iron rich foods, as otherwise it can't be absorbed. Black pudding with a slice of kiwifruit, perhaps?

OP posts:
Backinthebox · 14/07/2010 15:18

Rots can I have first bagsy on the hypno-gear please?

Big horse gone - Clucky brought me chocolate but I'm not sure it's enough....

CluckyKate · 14/07/2010 15:28

You haven't scoffed it already have you

Got back to my desk 2 minutes before the boss re-appeared - perfect timing

Backinthebox · 14/07/2010 15:40

Eaten one bar - DD trying to get me to open the other bar already. She's polished off the rest of the Polos, too.

Cosmosis · 14/07/2010 16:39

fair point ski - igg keep your legs crossed please!

organiccarrotcake · 14/07/2010 18:57

box seen your msg on t'other side and yes, of course.

fanny thanks. I did know, as it happened, but thank you for pointing it out as it's pretty critical, eh. Irritatingly I'm denied my morning cuppa which is not making me feel better! I'm onto a glass of fresh orange juice with my brekkie and a cup of tea at midday instead.

SilverSky · 14/07/2010 19:35

rots I won't say I'll miss ya........... As I will stalk keep up to date with your newborn in FESHvill.

Hope your iron intake does the right trick!!

Cosmosis · 14/07/2010 20:31
