silver I don;t have an actual changing bag, but rather two travel mats, which have pockets and fold up, with a handle to be used alone or put inside an existing handbag (or a fancy new one if you are so inclined). One was handmade, along with the rest of the bags I recently treated myself too (see Mama Ruby) and the other is a SkipHop Pronto, which comes in a variety of styles and colours.

Another product review - Moby sling works! Baby came on long dog walk across field today. V comfy.

In tonic news, I had a G&T&OJ last night. Was good.

FannyPriceless · 09/07/2010 15:05

And in a pre-emptive attempt to stop any more of you from burning your eyeballs by reading the FESH thread horror revelations, I am hereby providing an update on my baybee so you don't have to go over there to read it! He is just fab. One month old yesterday and still attached to me like a vaccuum cleaner. He is very tall and bonny and already stretching the limits of DD's old 0-3 mth baby clothes! I am doing nothing different than I did with DD and she was considered 'wee' for ages, so I conclude that all children are different and we probably don't have as much influence over it as we think we do.

As for me: no crutches, no wheelchair, and I can even go for walks! So proud pushing the pram through the village!

okie Every time it occurred to me that 'this is the last time I'll be pregnant' I simply wanted to jump for joy. No more morning sickness, no more spd, no more feckin heparin injectios, no more dvt stockings, no more stuck in a wheelchair crying... you get the picture.

The reason I was asking about changing bags was that all the ones I?ve seen have been either minging or stupid spensive, so was planning on just buying a courier bag type thing, but there are so many varieties of sizes I didn?t want to waste my cash by buying one to small/big ? so thanks for info all.

Muser · 09/07/2010 15:29

Ah ready salted crisps, how do I love thee? And why did I only buy one bag?

FannyPriceless · 09/07/2010 15:30

cosmo That is very sensible, oh wise one. Because basioally we just have a very expensive courier bag in a strange colour.

Hi all. Sorry it's taken me ages to get back into here to wave, say congrats to all the new recruits () and to say all VERY well in the rots household.

After due consideration I can advise that the new arrival is utterly, utterly gorgeous and adorable. Not going to put pushing details on here but suffice to say it was honestly absolutely fine. I had a TENS machine for the first 1/2 then water after the interval, didn't even bother trying the G&A this time.

Absolutely don't even bother going into labour without a TENS machine. I mean, why would you? It makes the first stage massively easier, it takes away loads of the pain - may well be the difference between not hitting your pain threshold, you can have any drugs you want with it if you feel the need and if you don't like it, just take it off. They can be hired cheaply but we bought one for £40 from Lloyds pharmacy - mostly because when my waters broke we hadn't organised hiring one and we expected it to start that day (little did I know).

I would also absolutely never, ever, ever have another baby out of water. Again, if it's possible to do it, I can't recommend it highly enough. The hospital water birthing room even had a pot of lavender flowers in it so I got my lavender field - sort of! Things kicked off so fast at home that I forgot to pick some!

I am pleased to advise that I am perfectly intact "down below", no tears or grazes. A little tender still but that's getting better. I had a little more blood loss than expected (prob as I had a natural 3rd stage) which made me quite weak for a few days (hence not getting here earlier) but that's all (and was perfectly within healthy limits).

BF going ok. He spent the first couple of days asleep mostly and not feeding much (normal). I was having a latch problem but the local Little Angels - PCT funded (amazingly) BF counsellors - came round and he's been much better, although still needs a tweak as since my milk came in they changed shape and he's not quite on perfectly. However we took a walk across the village to the pub yesterday with him in the sling, and I found BF in it really easy. People have no idea what we're doing although a lady in the pub peered in and said in a really broad, gorgeous Irish accent, "Oh you are good doing that, you are". I also fed him in the pharmacy today when picking up something for LC. An elderly gent was watching me and eventually started talking about his own kids and grandkids, how he remembered going through it all, etc. So much for negative BF in public comments

He was so content after birth, just floated up in the water, had a little cry then just lay there taking it all in. It was just what I wanted, no interventions, no messing around, no VEs! I wanted as gentle arrival into the world for him as possible and I feel I've given him that and I'm very proud of everything that YOB and I did to achieve it the days before he was born. Thanks so much to everyone for your messages and support. It's been brilliant and such a positive experience and although I did Very Firmly tell YOB that 2 children was quite enough, thank you, while in labour, the amazing past week and the intense love that we both feel for this tiny, sweet creature has made me feel quite broody again .

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 15:53

am blubbing now rots. that birth sounds utterly perfect, and is an actualisation of my birth plan, good to know it can be done!

Muser · 09/07/2010 15:57

Sounds like you were really lucky to get the birth you wanted rots. No wonder you're so happy.

Muser · 09/07/2010 15:59

And I'd quite like to order one of those births. Good tip on the TENS machine.

On the MC grads thread there was a woman who gave birth in the pool while the midwives were chatting. Just a cough and baby. Easy births can definitely happen!

organiccarrotcake · 09/07/2010 16:15

LOL muser that nearly happened in a way They didn't realise how far along I was (partly because I requested no VEs) and I was completely in the zone coping with it all internally, so while I thought I was clearly saying, "the baby's coming", apparently I wasn't (oops).

I was self-analysing all the way through, trying to work out what was best, and I will write some of these things down when I can as they may be useful coping tips. One that I noticed was as I moved into the pushing stage I did start the traditional mooing, as the sensations do get very strong very quickly just as you think they're strong enough, thank you, but then found that it was quite distracting and didn't allow me to focus on (ahem) "opening up". So I explored keeping quiet and focusing on breathing instead which was much better, but gave the MWs no indication at all as to what was going on! It was all a bit of a shock to them when I advised them (in no uncertain terms) that the head was being delivered and I really needed to be talked through it. Although I think the wording I chose at the time may have been different.

FannyPriceless · 09/07/2010 16:37

Internalising, schmernalising rots. You know perfectly well that it was the collective PESH lavender dedication wot did it!

Seroulsy, so thrilled for you. Water birth sounds brilliant.

well done on getting the birth you wanted Carrots.

One of my oldest friends had her baby today, a wee boy. As she got pregnant on her second month of trying, I am quite glad I am not updiffed myself, or I might have found her news rather hard.

Medee · 09/07/2010 18:13

oh, and Muse sorry to hear about the upchucking, but at least the BOC is burrowing its way in.

SilverSky · 09/07/2010 18:24

I'll have what she had!!!! < points in rots direction !>

organiccarrotcake · 09/07/2010 20:44

at fanny. It was all about the positive energies from the forum fer shure.

cos and silver I was very lucky but also worked really, really hard to get it. Combination of both I think!

medee Thanks Congrats to your friend but at your post.

Medee · 10/07/2010 07:40

gah! I meant to write "now updiffed", not not, totally different meaning!

Muser · 10/07/2010 09:58

I read it as now Medee. Didn't even spot it was wrong!

We have now told MrM's parents, who are delighted and looking forward to being overrun with babies now all their kids are reproducing. And I've already had the "so, will you stay in London? Lots of good jobs in Manchester/Leeds" question. They are desperate for us to be closer!

Backinthebox · 10/07/2010 10:49

Sounds like just what I'm after, Rots. I can take or leave the lavender though . Agree on the TENS though. I'm borrowing my friend's again - she bought it for £3 off Bid-up TV .

Funny TENS story - last time round I was eating a lot of Dairy Milk and not drinking a lot of wine. My brother was staying with us for a couple of months, and it was getting close to my due date. I went out and left my bro in the house, and when I came back in he was laid on the sofa nearly at the end of a bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate, with the TENS strapped to him. He said 'I'm not sure it's doing anything for my snowboarding injury, but it feels kinda nice anyway,' as he lay there twitching away like mad with the TENS up at max .

Medee one tiny letter - a whole lot of consternation! When you get to later on it could even be construed as a bit of wishful thinking. On the one hand I am extremely happy that the prospect of the baby arriving is getting ever closer, and that I am closer to the end than the start of it all. On the other hand I can't help thinking that I might be wishing the summer away. Then again - lugging about 2 extra stone of belly around in this heat isn't fun, even less fun when the 2 stone of child I have keeps asking to be carried too.

I have been spending the last few days on hands and knees as much as possible, and this morning there was a huge baby wriggle (which OH and DD wastched with fascination) so here's hoping he is starting to think about behaving now!

FP so glad you are up and about btw - the superwoman effect kicking in? I am relishing the thought that this will be my last pregnancy. First time I tried to ignore the fact that I was finding it hard work and carried on taking the horse out to shows and renovating the house (even so far as to swing the sledge hammer myself on more than one occasion!) At the end of each day I would just moan about my feet/back/hips etc. This time I am having as many kinds of pampering as I can. IM, reflexology, aromatherapy, osteo - loving it all! (But it would be even better if I wasn't needing it so badly, iyswim.)

FannyPriceless · 10/07/2010 11:57

medee Thank you for setting us straight! I was mortified to read your typo, thinking I needed to go back and read the sad news I must have missed.

Box Superwoman? Well I can now hang out the washing! Last night at 10pm I decided I wanted to go for a walk so just wandered around the village on my own while MrP stayed in with the kids. It was funny analysing how I was walking once on my own without pushing a buggy. I realised I am still stiff, awkward, sore, and - let's face it - FAT, so there's a long way to go before I'll be skipping up hills with a backpack on. Or leaping over four two foot fences on a dashing quiet steed.

I want a birth like Rots! That sounds amazing. I am practicing my mooing every time I sing "Old MacDonald" in preparation. At the hospital where I am going there is one birth pool. When I asked of the liklihood of it being available they assured me that they can not remember a situation where two woman wanted to use it at the same time! I was amazed but it is a "too posh to push" kind of place where the c section rate is quite high which is down to patient choice. So hopefully I will get it this time!

Medee you gave me a fright!

It is too hot for me out there. I am usually a sun worshipper but I am skulking around indoors.

iggypiggy · 10/07/2010 16:44

okie the place I am going only has one pool too... Am def asking for it, they seem to think is unlikely to be two of us wanting it at once... Odd...

rots I meant to say before, I think your birth sounds ace, am hoping I can also have something like that... Would be great...

Medee · 10/07/2010 18:26

Hello, think I had my first symptom - unbelievable tiredness.

We walked into town, but ended up adding to our trip as we had to the go to the other branch of a shop, further into town. So by the time we finally got home (with me trudging the last of the way), I just went to bed - for 2 hours!

SilverSky · 10/07/2010 19:55

PESHs I am a wreck. I have this horrid pain under my right boob. Feels like a muscle strain and is causing me lots of discomfort. My back aches. I am too hot. Baybee has been very quiet with the occasional move.

Have been trying to take it easy today but still ended up walking the dog, sorting out the nag, meeting a chum for lunch, doing laundry and then whizzing to Babies R Us to do some shopping. Am now at home in my pjs with the fan on full blast.

Tommee tippee bibs with the nice squidgy neck in B r Us are at the best price compared to Boots et al. £3.99 for two rather than £4.49/4.99. A steal fo' sho'.

We also picked up a starter kit as already posted and we got a changing bag. Not cheap but has lots of pockets Inc changing mat and is designed for dads too.

We also purchased a neutral coming home outfit. Husband chose it and couldn't resist. It has gorgeous bears on the top with stripey bottoms with feet and it has a very cute jacket with a hood and of course the hood has ears!!!

Fingers xd my pain is not serious and I have just tweaked myself and that the little person is still all ok in there and it's just the heat and my activity that has kept him/her in snoozeville all day.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I am not moving my butt from the sofa for the rest of the evening, except for to put myself to bed.

waves wearily goodnight

Medee · 10/07/2010 20:12

oh dear, Sky, I hope a night on the sofa makes you feel better. And the coming-home outfit sounds very cute.

Backinthebox · 10/07/2010 21:45

I had a very sharp pain under my boob last time, and it was DD getting herself into a comfy feet-wedged-against-my-ribs position, where she stayed until she engaged. I'm sorry, but it was rather sore too. I was expecting it to happen this time round too, but it hasn't happened so far. Still time yet though!
