Crikey, me too.

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 09/07/2010 04:28

still don't own any books on what to do when baby arrives. She's two weeks old now, and I think we are doing ok

SkiHorseWonAWean · 09/07/2010 04:36

I have a book about real live babies - Practical parenying magazine - got on with their pregnancy book. I read it on the loo.

SilverSky · 09/07/2010 08:34

Reading on the loo is one of my past times too! As well as whilst in the bath - though is right pain if you drop said reading materials!

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 08:59

leg cramps in the night are normal innit? just started getting them but seem to remember reading something.

rollerbaby · 09/07/2010 09:09

Have had really bad leg cramps in the night twice - once actually woke up at 5am yelling out in agony.

Second time despite the cramp I forced my foot into an upwards right angle position and the cramp eased quickly... Apparently milk meant to help??? Are we allowed tonic water - it has quinine in it which is supposed to sort... Fucking painful though I know.

NEW BED IS ACE.

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 09:12

yes, allowed tonic. tehy go pretty quickly when I do what you said re the foot, so not that bothered really.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 09/07/2010 09:49

Hi ladies - flying visit as have horrible day ahead and have had almost no sleep due to

a) being unable to sleep on my back as bump now heavy and Clint appears to be wrestling alligators
b) being unable to sleep on my sides due to agonising leg and foot cramps
c) once have cramps, trying to roll self out of bed as have no stomach muscles, then finding once upright I need to wee.
d) too hot
e) really annoying dry cough
f) TSF feeling poorly so all of above done while attempting to not disturb him.

Cramps were the worst. I drove a lot on Sunday and found I had no cramps on Mon/Tues which was bliss (think was all that flexing). Yoga teacher said grapefruit juice but I drank loads yesterday and still had them. AND I seem to have hurt my finger - doesn't look serious (no idea what has happened, it's gone a bit swollen and purple) but I haven't got time to be distracted today - waaaa.

Sorry - that was v grumpy. And I haven't caught up on what's been going on here recently so apols if I have missed something major. Hope twinks and salty get some good news.

(FESHers - I made the mistake of venturing into your Spa..... AAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHH .....silly VAG. Really want to keep up with your news though, hope you and the BESH babies are well)

CluckyKate · 09/07/2010 10:02

What, tonic water with no gin

Boxy your eggies are delicious thank-you very much.....at least I don't eat them raw, unless, of course, you're making cakes - mmmmm cake-mix
In fact, was going to do some baking on Sunday afternoon just so I could lick the bowl but passed out on the sofa instead - blimmin' knackering this baby-growing business

Well done to MiniBox - she has her mothers competitive spirit...although the longs legs from her Dad also help

I also read Kaz Cooke's Rought Guide to Pregnancy - funny & informative & I really liked having a week-by-week account of what was going on.
MrCK read Fatherhood: The Truth which kept him chuckling and tbh I don't think he'd have bothered with anything more high-brow (nor could I for that matter).
Am not bothering with baby books this time so have Super-Freakonomics on the shelf for my loo visits.

Muser · 09/07/2010 10:15

I threw up behind a tree this morning. The thought of work after that made me want to cry, so I came back home. Must learn to cope.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 09/07/2010 10:22

Clucky I get TSF to rinse gin round the glass then put tonic in, ice and lemon - sometimes I even have a very weak G&T. Medicinal, you know.... Also my sis bought us the Kas Clarke book - TSF loves reading aloud how much Clint has grown each week (even though his reading aloud skills are so dire it's painful) - it's our Sunday morning ritual (my weeks start on a Sunday).

Muser yuk, you poor thing.

I don't want to be at work today. I don't want it to be 30 degrees. I just want some sleep!......and I can't see that happening for the next 18 months at least....argh!!!

If you see me here again today can you send me packing? - the quicker I get through this task, the quicker I can go home.

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 10:37

Aww poor muse, want me to hold back your hair??

Tonic water nice with OJ.

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 10:48

Random q of the day, anyone know the rough dimensions of the average changing bag?

Cosmosis · 09/07/2010 11:01

Not good salty news on BESH

SkiHorseWonAWean · 09/07/2010 12:29

honey I can haz confusion about wot u iz drinking ur gin with if u iz eschewing tonic?

cossie, you're needed on conception for a weight thread by Aries.

rollerbaby · 09/07/2010 12:38

Poor Muse that sounds horrid. Lemonade and a lie down definitely order of the day. I found sweet, fizzy drinks really helpful afterwards cos it does make you feel shit and depleted of energy.

if you feel really bad, don't feel guilty taking time out. You're preggers - it isn't an endurance test. Is telling work an option at all? Even just your boss? I felt worse not telling people cos I basically couldn't function at a normal level for about a month - my colleagues thought there was something seriously awry.

Cossie no idea about dimensions - but seriously the bags some women carry you'd think they were going out for the fortnight, not just down the shops!

rollerbaby · 09/07/2010 12:40

Ski I just swig my sloe gin from the bottle ackcherly. It's quicker and saves washing up.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 09/07/2010 12:47

lol @ honey so true about sodding bags. OK bag I've got is approx. 14" x 10" x 5" and has gazillions of pockets, built-in fold-up mat and thermal bottle pocket for mama's cocktail. If I need more than that we'd be going by car anyway.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 09/07/2010 12:48

muser I know it's grim but I took great comfort from my sickness. x

SkaterGrrrrl · 09/07/2010 13:11

Poor Muser being ill behind a tree.

VAG, go and do some work!

My sister in law just had a baby and mother in law just sent round some photos to the whole family with an email saying, "Mum & baby doing well and [BIL] is helping [SIL] look after the baby..."

Bit at phrase "Helping SIL" to look after their baby. Right now he is on paternity leave and she is on maternity leave so why is he presumed to be 'helping'? Surely its his baby too and they are both equally responsible for it? In fact as his job is not looking stable its likely he will wind up being the primary carer.

Another thing that slays me: men who say they are "baby sitting" tonight, ie caring for their own children!

SilverSky · 09/07/2010 13:14

muser no wonder you bailed work today. Best remedy fo' sho'.

I am also on the changing bag mission! Tips?

My leg cramps are MURDER! Husband doest even hear my screams in the night. What chance has a crying newborn have if his dad hearing him? Sweet FA i'd say!

Muser · 09/07/2010 13:48

Ski I am taking great comfort in the sickness and hoping it means Bob is growing and doing well. Especially given news in the Palais and my previous history.

Just need to learn how to adapt to it, and figure out if telling work is the best bet.

Skater I hate the babysitting thing with a fiery passion. Oh it's annoying. My brother took a week's holiday to look after his 2 boys when SIL had to go back to work for a week before her summer holidays (she timed having babies very well with being a teacher). The number of people who said "oh isn't he good, isn't he wonderful". No. He's a bloody father. Doing what father's are meant to do. And what nearly every mother would do in the same situation. That's his response too by the way.

OkieCokie · 09/07/2010 13:53

Nice one Muse on the chucking up behind a tree. That is well classy and a very good sign. I have just realised that this is possibly the last ever time I will be pregnant (I make it sound like this is my 7th time or sumfink) and I am clearly not milking it enough both at work and at home. Hmmm, need to think of ways to "take care of myself" more.

iggypiggy · 09/07/2010 14:32

Just thought i'd pass on what my osteopath said about cramp... She said is worse in the hot weather and that it means you need to drink more water. Tonic water also good tho.

I am so hot today... Am reclining on the sofa like a fat slug...

FannyPriceless · 09/07/2010 14:55

Poor muser. I am also acquainted with the undignified chunder situation. (Of course the true queen is ski whose ms was only cured by actual baybee extraction.)

Our changing bag is the size of a courier satchel / cross body soft brief case. MrP uses it more than me as I think it's too big to lug around unless we need bottles and food with us, so I usually just shove a few supplies in a small bag in the tray of the buggy.
