Marzi, thanks for the hospital bag list.

One more day of work to go and I'm rapidly running out of stuff to do. I've spent today finishing off a couple of reports, shredding, filing the contents of my email inbox and hiding stationery in lockable drawers (with all these Civil Service cuts there is no way my hole punch etc will still be on my desk next February - we currently need a letter from God to get a new pen). None of my lovely colleagues are sticky fingered in any way but I have visions of things being long term borrowed!

neenz · 15/07/2010 15:25

Marzi, a stretchy top would be ok but have you looked in Asda for PJs which button at the front? I got two fab pairs for £5 each last time (get a really big size - I made the mistake of thinking I would be a size 10 again straight after the birth so some of my hospital PJs didn't fit!). My sister rescued me by buying me these size 16-18 PJs from asda and they are still so lovely and comfy! The tops are long so they would be fine to wear as a nightie during labour.

cazzybabs · 15/07/2010 15:30

marzipananimal - I always found I could get my great nork out of a normal nightie to feed...but this time (as I am buggered if I can find it) i have treated myself to a breastfeeding nightie at vast expensive

pamplem0usse · 15/07/2010 15:54

Grrr Aussie... so annoyed for you; why can't these companies just sort themselves out and give efficient customer service (and deliver what you ordered.....)
Hope its all sorted out for you in as quick and pain-free a way! xxx

Aussieng · 15/07/2010 17:37

Thanks everyone - am calmer now. At least the chest of drawers is fine so I have actually been able to finally put the piles of nappies and onsies and vests away so it is starting to look a little better. I just need to accept that I am not going to be bringing LO home to an immaculate or fully finished house.

Marzi I had exactly the same problem with finding a nightie. I found one on Ebay and didn't snap it up and missed it much to my regret. I have not found anything else that I am entirely happy with. The main problem seems to be finding something in a dark colour for those early days especially if an overnight in hospital is required. I actually got a stretchy black jersey dress from primark in a couple of sizes too big(this is my hoik boob out of top option) and a light grey proper bf one from Mothercare (just have to hope for no embarassing leaks) and then PJs in the hope that I am not too uncomfortable to wear pj's for very long. Very frustrating - a niche in the market I feel.

thedogwalker · 15/07/2010 17:38

Marzipan I bought a set of two breastfeeding nighties from Mothercare, they weren't expensive, but can't quite recall how much they were.

Aussie Oh how annoying, especially cos you spotted it early and they asked you to leave the room. Hope you've complained to the company, letting them know how close you are to birth and this has put you out. Lay it on thick and you might get some freebies for your troubles.

Well I hope everyone is fine today. I see there are some of you who seem close to the end.....soooo jealous, as I cannot wait to meet my little boy. He's already 3/5 engaged but I can't imagine him coming anytime soon, as my due date is exactly a month today.

I must admit, I rush to read the posts first thing in a morning just to check to see if we have any new arrivals.

Well I've got nothing of interest to report, boring day of cooking and cleaning, but I hope everyone gets a good night sleep tonight.

Emster30 · 15/07/2010 18:09

I'm also on the July thread and the first birth there wasn't until 28 June! It was astonishing there wasn't anyone earlier. Mind you well over half have now had their babies with only one or two particularly overdue. Most people seem to be having fairly nice short labours too - fingers crossed...

I got two black nighties with buttons at the top at the front from Peacocks for £10 altogether - might be worth a look.

ElusiveMoose · 15/07/2010 18:20

Re nighties, I found this in a quick online hunt, if it's any good. I've still got a couple from last time, which I'm intending to wear in labour and after - I think they're all from Mothercare, IIRC.

neenz · 15/07/2010 18:43

I chucked away the nightie I gave birth in last time - it was beyond saving (but at least then it doesn't matter if it is a light colour)

LizzieA · 15/07/2010 19:37

I'd kill for a rare steak aaarrrggghh!

End of rant, as you were!

sparkle101 · 15/07/2010 19:46

Evening all,

All sounds like things are moving on a pace with some of you - maybe have some new abies before the end of the weekend.... fingers crossed.

Growth scan and conultant appointment today: good news - blood flow is back to normal and ay is an 'average' size so don't have to have another appt for three weeks. Bad news - no more scans so no more chance to see baby till it pops out and it is still totally breech.

Fingers crossed that baby moves but it seems more than happy where it is causing as much pain and discomfort as possible.

Slightly TMI question for you - has anyone else been having the feeling they may accidentally let out a bit if wee when the baby moves and is there anything that can be done to stop it. Think baby is kicking my bladder!

Re: nighties - matalan are doing a maternity range now with pjs and nighties too but a lot of their normal nighties unbutton at the front.

ElusiveMoose · 15/07/2010 20:31

Sparkle I've got to the stage where I can let out a bit of wee through overly violent blinking, so I'm not sure I'm the person to ask . Not sure you can prevent it, but panty liners are the way forward .

weehector · 15/07/2010 23:10

If I do a really big sneeze, it's game over. Pelvic floor muscle exercises, it's the future.

weehector · 16/07/2010 01:11

lizzie you mean a choicy cut of fillet mignon that's been well seared for just a few minutes...one that sizzles as it's brought in on an iron skillet & cuts like butter? Would you like lardy, double cooked chips all fluffy on the inside or crispy buttermilk onion rings? Lightly steamed asparagus with a tart squeeze of lemon juice or basalmic sauteed mushrooms? Maybe a hunk of blue cheese on top...a HUGE glass of spicy Argentinian Malbec..?

Me too!

bouncingblueberries · 16/07/2010 08:48

Morning girls

All this talk of steak is making me hungry (doesn't take much!). I'm still highly suggestible when it comes to food, so supermarket shopping is quite frankly dangerous as I end up buying everything even remotely related to any advertising I encounter on the way.

aussie how annoying re the furniture!

weehector yee-haaa for sleep!

neenz isn't Ina May fascinating? I think she makes so much sense, although not sure if I'll be up for snogging dh during labour - worth a shot though (if I EVER go into labour!)

Well, after a morning of very strong cramping and braxton hicks, it all dwindled to nothing and not even digging up potatoes at the allotment kick-started it again. So jumped dh last night, who's now getting increasingly nervous about sticking something somewhere that should be being used as an exit, but not so much as a twinge today so far. dh is obviously lacking in the prostaglandin department. Grrrrr.

Getting seriously fed-up now. ds was a week old by this stage ffs!

Hey ho. I can't stay pregnant forever and I know I should count my blessings but I'm seriously bored now!

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh!

girlsyearapart · 16/07/2010 09:25

Know the feeling blueberries!

You just made me snort with laughter over your 'sticking something that should be used as an exit' comment!!

Have a good day all.

kcoffin27 · 16/07/2010 09:46

blueberries I also had to laugh about your exit comment
My pains keep stopping too, its so annoying. I also jumed dh but last night, but nothing happening still

Got up to a sick cat this morning, she has got the squits. yuck!

Last night my 10 year old was in the garden on his scooter and comes in saying 'ive run something over it went pop' whilst my 6 year old syas 'its got bits hanging out' I go out to look and spot a pile of (warning TMI) guts! cant look to see what it is as was nearly sick. So left it for dh.My son said to dh ' its like an alien its got claws' It turned out to be a little birdie

How is everyone today? Its really windy here, the wind kept waking me in the night.

I really fancy a nice juicy steak now too, but im so fussy I wont buy it if it has lots of fat in it. So dont often get it

weehector · 16/07/2010 10:33

Morning ladies

I feel literally like a big greasy sausage this morning (but now I read this over again, a sausage sandwich with tomato sauce might be nice as well). I think I overdid the Mother's Balm on my belly last night. The directions suggested I could also use it for perineal massage so buoyed by the HypnoBirthing instructions on how to do it, I gave that a bash too at 4am this morning...hmmn, not quite sure I've got the hang of this horseshoe business!

Well done to those of you managing to engineer some jiggy. I've still got the bit between my teeth so to speak but DH is too squeamish. Even if I go 2 weeks over I'll be lucky...it's been ages. Haha re exits though - I hadn't thought on it like that.

kcoffin yuk re the birdie. I'd have been sick on the spot as I'm not great with things like that. I'm phobic about worms (could barely type the word here) and already worried about how I'll handle a kid's fascination with nature & creepy crawlies.

I'm off to Glasgow soon to maybe have lunch or coffee (a friend has an ad pitch due in today so it's not certain unless he's got it out the building - how I remember those days, even if I do see him his head will be in another adrenalin fuelled planet of sleep deprivation, coffee after putting 'the deck' together & bullying art directors) & then dinner with other old work pals. I'm also going to get my hair done - I've had a cut & colour strategically planned for 37 weeks for months so Baby Weehector doesn't come out and think I'm his granny.

Have a good day, everyone.

vix206 · 16/07/2010 11:26

I'm impressed that any of you are still into sex! Me and dh haven't gone near each other in that way since about 20 weeks I think. As soon as baby started moving we both felt too weird about it, and now I am just so huge and uncomfortable the thought does not inspire me to say the least

Your talk of steak does nothing for me as a veggie! Now ice cubes, fruit or crispy green salad stuff and I'm there like a shot

I've taken the morning off as I felt too tired to rush myself in for a full days work, off back to the office at 12. I've really enjoyed the morning at home, wish I could take more time off am so tired now. Up with full bladder 5 times every night and awake with leg cramps from 4 onwards every morning. It's starting to really grind me down

soontobefatnat · 16/07/2010 12:22

I hear you Vix - if I wasn't working from home today, I don't think I could have done a full day in the office at all.

And ditto on the sex front - could be a nun at this point (bump not withstanding!) Good for you though Blueberries!!

I just had an incredibly unsatisfying midwifes appointment! Got some bloods back (from about 10,000 years ago) and I'm borderline anaemic (but not quite enough to worry about), have borderline high blood sugar (but not quite enough to worry about), the baby might still be breech, couldn't tell which was he was, so if I was any further along I'd be sent for a scan to tell... and my uterus is measuring small, but not quite small enough to get sent for a scan for that either.

LOL! I can't be bothered to worry about any of it - except get going again on the all fours business and try and not slouch at all/sit on the birth ball etc.

Oh, and I'm going to have a burger for lunch! You know, red meat, innit!

cakeywakey · 16/07/2010 12:26

Am up to my eyes in boxes (we've just completed on our new house! Hurray!) but couldn't resist popping on to see if we'd had any more babies arrive yet. Have a feeling that they're going to start coming in thick and fast over the next week or so .

ElusiveMoose · 16/07/2010 12:36

Oh dear, all this talk of sex is making me feel a bit guilty. It's been a good couple of weeks or more for us, and I feel I ought to service DH at least once more before the birth, as it ain't going to be happening for a while afterwards . Plus it's our anniversary on Saturday night. Luckily DH isn't usually too demanding in that department (I mean, we're pretty evenly matched ), but he did hear someone on the TV or something the other day say the phrase 'pretty bras', and he just sighed, 'ah, pretty bras', with a wistful look in his eye, so I think he might be getting a bit desperate. Trouble is, a) I'm not in the mood, and b) I could actually do with this baby staying put for another 2 or 3 weeks, until the builders have finished their major work. And my MW does say that, of all the old wives tales about how to get labour started, sex is the only one that actually works.

thedogwalker · 16/07/2010 12:47

Hello all

I can't even think about jiggy, i feel so bloated and uncomfortable that it is the last thing on my mind. Good luck to you that can manange it, but I'm just not in the mood, plus where do you get the energy from??? Mind you, I agree with Elusive, I may have to soon, as I won't want it after either. My DH hasn't mentioned anything, I think he was put off early when LO started moving during jiggy (sorry tmi), so he hasn't been moaning, but I suppose there is a limit to his sainthood

My nipples are really sore today . I have had sore boobs throughout the pregnancy but today the nipples are so painful, just having my bra rub against the nipple skin is ouch!!!

fatnat get on the ball and wiggle those hips, that should get the LO moving, good luck.

Well I hope everyone is having a good day. Take care

vitapulchra · 16/07/2010 12:48

I've been fantasising about a bottle of champagne to accompany a huge, non-pasteurised wedge of brie followed by a plate of salmon gravadlax, and my MIL's to-die-for homemade tiramisu made with raw egg. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm!

Have we missed any recent newcomers getting added to the list? If so please post your details again or copy the list and insert your details yourself, if you'd like. I kept thinking there were quite a few who posted recently who might be missing.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Palace39 · 16/07/2010 13:17

I'm new to this one, first baby due on 17th August. I'm 28 and very much looking forward to meeting my little boy.

And i'm so bloody bored!! Had to give up work two weeks early as i have SPD, so i quite literally do not know what to do with myself to pass the time... ARGH!!!
